Record Store Day 2016 April 16th at Dumb Records

RSD2016_big

How could we forget that one of the biggest days of the year for vinyl collectors and record stores will be happening this month? That’s right, Record Store Day is officially Saturday, April 16th this year and of course Dumb Records is a participating store this year along with Recycled Records and The Elf Shelf downtown. We have a few big things planned for record store day this year so there will surely be something in it for everybody. First off, the list of exclusive releases that Dumb will be getting in is by far the biggest list we have ever had. We put an entirely separate page together on our site and you can check that out right here. That list is what we anticipate getting in the store for the very special day. Aside from the list, all non exclusive RSD items in the store will be 20% off! And to top it all off, yes there will be live music in the store! We have DJ Tariq (New York’s Deadliest DJ) coming and performing at some point during the day. Check out the official Record Store Day site right here.

Record Store Day will be happening at Dumb Records for 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (get in line!). Find a facebook event for Record Store Day right here. Also check our shows page for a list of other events coming up in Southtown.

Pryss will also be playing next at Black Sheep on Wednesday, April 13th along with Violence Creeps and Livin’ Thing. They will also be playing Dumb Fest 4-Ever.

Oh no! Looks like due to touring bands being unable to make it to Springfield, the show that was previously scheduled to happen at Black Sheep tonight has been canceled. We won’t say what bands so you don’t get too sad thinking about it.

The next show happening at Black Sheep is coming up this Friday, April 8th with Fairhaven, The Origin Story, and The Suction Cups. More info on that one right here. Also check out our shows page to take a look at all the shows still happening in the coming months.

Diaper Rash Unveiled As The Thomas Nicholas Band

diaperrashphoto4 copy.jpg

Today we have a very surprising twist. You won’t BELIEVE this one! Our team of Black Sheep archeologists are hard at it again, this time they have been working months and months to unveil the true identity of the masked band Diaper Rash. After a solid year and a half of playing shows, most of us thought we had the lineup of Diaper Rash behind the masks figured out. We were mostly sure that the front person aka “Big Baby” was just Brandon Carnes of South Town Studio.

With some careful analysis of the original Diaper Rash band photo, and also a certain music video shot in South Town in late 2014, our team has concluded that the band Diaper Rash is actually The Thomas Nicholas Band in disguise. If you don’t believe us, just look at the original Diaper Rash photo and then watch this music video to see if the masked figures lined up. It turns out Big Baby is actually famous actor and musician, Thomas Ian Nicholas, who also starred in films Rookie of The Year and American Pie. Here is what the true Big Baby has to say:

That’s just the way it goes. You don’t have to like it.

-Thomas Nicholas

Now that Diaper Rash has been exposed they will be playing one final show up in South Town Studio tomorrow. More info on that show can be found right here.

R.I.P. South Town Studio

We figured now would be a great time to officially announce that South Town Recording Studio is officially done. Brandon Carnes is throwing in the towel real hard and moving away to Pittsburgh. Bye Brandon.

peace dudes.

-Brandon Carnes, South Town Studio

You can catch Brandon’s last ever Black Sheep Radio Show today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3  WQNA fm or stream online at wqna.net. The Black Sheep Radio Show will continue at the same time without Brandon as the host, and will also be recorded live at the Capital Area Career Center from here on out.

Tonight in Macomb: Pryss, Gush, Livin’ Thing “On Ice”

skating-rink-1940s2 copy.jpg

There is something very special lined up happening tonight in Macomb, Illinois of all the special places. A few Springfield bands will be taking over the city in their new bus and performing a very special show “on ice” for one night only. That’s right, those bands are Gush, Livin’ Thing, and Pryss, and they can’t wait to show off their moves out there on the skating rink tonight.

The bands tonight are going to really show us they’ve got what it truly takes out on the rink tonight. I can’t wait for them to get out there and show us their stuff. Ready for some outstanding performances and will possibly be looking to recruit for the men’s roller derby team.

-Greg Harvey, captain of Capital City Hooligans Roller Derby

You can stream the Livin’ Thing song “Beautiful Dancer” on the player below. The show is located at “The Outskirts” in Macomb at 201 Shady Lane. Bring $5 to skate and $2-3 donation for the show. Bands will start at 9:30 pm and of course this is all ages. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. And if you are in town tonight and are ages 21 or up, you might want to check out the show happening tonight at Bar None with NIL8 and The Timmys.
