Mark Schwartz: “The Atomic Trilogy”

Today we are reporting with yet another Mark Schwartz solo album. This one is called The Atomic Trilogy & Other Pieces. You can find it streaming on the player below. A description of this release from Mark’s bandcamp page:

This release features the three-piece work, “The Atomic Trilogy,” as well as four other long-form computer compositions. Several of these utilize minimalist composition techniques and are influenced by krautrock. All works were composed during or around 2003.

Also head over to Mark Schwartz’s bandcamp page to purchase the download of the release or find more of Mark’s works. All throughout this pandemic this was just one of five albums that Mark released on bandcamp.

Good morning and happy Monday everyone, welcome to another week. We are gonna jump into this week continuing our streak of sharing with you all of the music videos coming out of hip hop acts in the 217 within this past month. Here is a new song and video from Mvrty1300 – the song is called “Down Bad” and you can find it embedded on the player below. This video was shot and edited by RoomRari, mixing was done by Reco Hill.

Mrvty1300 released his full album True Colors late last year. You can find this one along with many others on a list of local music videos shot over the years on our vids/pics page.

ZiPPiR Collective: “500K” (Music Video)

Local hip hop collective “ZiPPiR Collective” are at it again, and here we are back with yet another new music video coming out of the 217 during this time of quarantine. This one was shot and produced by the great and talented Jayy Wills. The song and video is for the song “500k” (half a million) and you can find it streaming on the player below.

ZiPPiR Collective is currently made up of six different artists (all featured here in the video) including Kid Ziggy, Papa Luke, RJC, JunioR Pasare, Danny J and THEDAMNCLAMMAN. Check out our vids/pics page for a long list of other local music videos shot over the years.

Dirty Da Don: “Switch Up” (Music Video)

Happy Sunday everyone. Today we bring you yet another new hit single and music video from long-running local hip hop artist Dirty Da Don, and that is for the song “Switch Up.” You can check that out on the player embedded below. The rapper had released a different song and video for “Everythang Business / Wake Up” earlier this month.

Dirty Da Don released his “Project Legendary Mixtape” earlier this year. You can check out a long list of other music videos shot in town over the years on our pics/vids page.

Illinois In “Phase 4” + What It Means For Us + Free Parking Downtown Extended Throughout July

Yes, it is true. Yesterday Illinois officially moved into “phase 4” of our our re-opening plan, the fourth out of five stages of re-opening, with the next phase not coming until there is a vaccine or reliable treatment for COVID-19. We’ve been getting some questions as far as what this phase means for us or if this means we can start having shows yet. We’ll just address some of those questions and give a little update here.

  • Our physical was already able to open at phase 3, so with phase 4 we will remain open. You can expect an increase of our store hours announced at some point early next month. We will also likely announce an increase in the number of people we will allow at once in the store, which currently is at 4. Face masks are still strongly recommended if not required.
  • In phase 4 gatherings of up to 50 people are permitted. Technically this does mean we could get away with having shows inside our venue space to some extent if we limited the amount of attendees, but we are not ready to do this or even plan for it yet.
  • Instead of thinking about shows right now, we are more planning for the debut of the Dumb Arcade. We are not setting an opening date for this because we do not want a rush of people coming all at once, but you can expect the arcade to open at some point next month. When we announce the arcade’s debut we will also go over what precautions we will be taking to keep everyone safe.

In addition to all of this, parking downtown continues to be free throughout the month of July! You don’t need to put any money in those meters!

Kenyon DeShasier: “My Dream Girl”

What do you know! While we weren’t looking it looks like Springfield solo musician Kenyon DeShasier released a brand new album! That album is called My Dream Girl and you can find it streaming on that player embedded below. Also head on over to Kenyon’s youtube page where you can find it streaming as well as the good amount of other albums Kenyon has released.

This puts us at 25 releases that we have kept track of so far this year on our local Springfield album archive page, and 520 total.

On The Move With Reco Hill (Video Series)

Over the past month or so, there has been a new original video / interview series coming out of Springfield on youtube called “On The Move With Reco Hill” and we are lovin’ it. This new series is a collaboration between Reco Hill and Elijah Settles. Elijah has been doing the videography and Reco Hill hosts the interview segments. Above is a photo of Reco interviewing Ken Pacha. We’ve embedded the video for that one below, we’ve also embedded a video segment of Reco interviewing the active Black People Party of America during a week of protests in Springfield. Most of the interviews are relating to local music.

Vinal released another song and video for “Stand Tall” last month. His EP Growing Pains came out in 2018.
