December 19th at Dumb Records: Die, Prevention, Split, War And Rumor

Alright here, real quick! We’re gonna go over a show announcement real quick! This one is happening on Sunday, December 19th so mark your calendars!

Okay, for this show we’ve got a band called “Die” from Chicago! Stream their music on the player embedded below. Didn’t we just recently have a band called Die play here? Yes, but that was “DYE” from Kansas City, apparently a different band. Also on this show of course is heavy hitting hardcore band Prevention. Then another band called SPLIT. Didn’t they recently play here too? No, that show got cancelled and they didn’t get to play here, so now they are. And we’ve got War & Rumor from Jacksonville.

That’s it, that’s the show. This show starts at 7:00pm, admission is $7, and we will be requiring masks and checking for proof of vaccine or negative COVID tests within 72 hours still.

Additions To November 27th Show: Big Laugh (Milwaukee) + Some Other New Band

Good afternoon and here is an *official* post to let you know we have a couple of additions to a show previously announced for Saturday, November 27th here at Dumb Records. Certainly this will be a busy weekend being the day after Black Friday Record Store Day.

The lineup previously announced is Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship, Nite Frvr, and Trauma Harness all from the St. Louis area, and then “Animals With Human Names” – the hip hop project from here. Now two new added acts include BIG LAUGH (hardcore band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin), who have played here at Dumb Record before the pandemic, and also some other new band that we don’t even know the name of from Springfield and Central Illinois. This new band features Drew Kodrich on something. Stream some of Big Laugh’s music on the player below.

Find a facebook for this show right here. Start time is still 7:00 pm and the admission cost was $6, so who knows maybe it’s $7 now. Vaccine cards and masks required upon entry.

Black Friday RSD Delays: List of Titles Pushed Back To December 10th

Whoops! This is something that happens every year – and understandably so with hundreds of different releases being pressed for Record Store Day – there are always a number of releases that don’t quite make it in time and get pushed back. From the official Record Store Day facebook page:

Not sure if you’ve heard the news, but things are a little crazy in the world of supply and demand out there. And even though every Record Store Day, RSD Drop and RSD Black Friday has changes to the List in the weeks between when it’s launched and when the titles hit the stores, production issues, customs issues, shipping issues, rights issues, and some pretty comical situations we can’t really get into here have definitely hit this RSD Black Friday list.

We ordered every single release on “the list” for Black Friday Record Store Day this year, so everything on the list above should hopefully be coming to our store on December 10th. **Even through we ordered everything, not all of these titles are guaranteed to us, and it is normal for a number of releases to get allocated and less copies show up than what we order. We also can not put any holds on any of these items, even for the later date.

Black Friday Record Store Day is happening this year on Friday, November 26th. Our store opens at 8:00 am and we will be having sales, live music, exclusive shirt giveaways, and more. Checkout a facebook event for this one right here.

November 30th at Dumb Records: World’s Greatest Dad, Tilt Warning, Kate Laine

It’s time to get back on track with our show announcement posts over here. There are a few shows that have been announced outside of our usual website or facebook events have gone up for! This one is happening on Tuesday, November 30th!

For this show we have the national touring indie/emo band from Atlanta, Georgia called World’s Greatest Dad. (That’s WGD for short, and you can stream their latest release on the bandcamp player embedded below). Actually you know what, stream both of their latest releases on the player below. Also on this show is Tilt Warning – the fairly new three-piece emo band from here and Central Illinois. Opening things up is indie rock act Kate Laine, who we are excited to see back here at Dumb for the first time since before the pandemic!

All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $10. It is safe to say that we WILL once again be checking for proof of vaccines and masks will be required. Find a facebook event for this one right here!

Tonight at CFP (House): Prevention, Side Eye, Tom Thanks, Hemlock

Looks like there’s another show going on tonight in town – but this time not at Dumb Records!

This one is happening tonight at the C.F.P. House in Springfield. Bands Prevention (from here) and Side Eye (from Springfield, Missouri) are returning from a week or so long tour together. They have a lot of fun playing hardcore music together. You can stream some of Side Eye’s music on the player below. Also on this show is a band called “Tom Thanks” from the St. Louis area! What a silly name! Opening this show up is newer Springfield hardcore band Hemlock.

This show is at 7:00 pm and costs $5. We don’t even know if there is a facebook event. If you don’t know where the CFP House is, your best bet might be messaging the Prevention Instagram page. Sounds like masks and vaccine cards are also required at this one.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Attic Salt, Tina Sparkle, Starter Jackets, Oatmilk

We’ve got a show happening here at Dumb Records tonight! It’s a cold one out there, but our heat is on and working.

For this show we have Attic Salt from right here in Springfield – the power pop-punk group who released your favorite album, Get Wise last year in 2020. We also have Tina Sparkle coming from Peoria, Illinois – their first time ever playing Springfield as far as we know! This group has been around the area for a long time, and you can stream their newest album Southern Hospitality on the player below. Also on the gig we got Starter Jackets – making their big return on this side of the pandemic. Opening things up is a newer project from Decatur, Illinois called Oatmilk! Let’s go ahead and give them all one big round of applause.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. We are continuing to require masks as our show as well as proof of vaccine cards or negative COVID test results within 72 hours. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where we have a list of what we’ve got announced and coming up!

November Issue Of Activator Available Now

Whoops, we almost forgot to make a post saying that we have the new November issue of Activator Magazine! How fun! We also even have plenty of back issues – from previous months of October and September!

This month’s cover features Springfield veteran synth-pop rocker Ricki Marvel on the cover. Activator interviewed Ricki about an upcoming EP she has been working on, her experience playing the Laura Jane Grace show here in town, and more. Also interviewed in this issue is Champaign IL’s Long Birds, Bad Bad Hats from Minneapolis, local hip hop artist Composition C, Chase Baby from Champaign, and also features a “soundcheck” section checking in with other local musicians. In addition to that there are live music calendars, photo spreads, and music reviews. No “Dumb Perspective” column this issue, sorry.

You can pick up copies of Activator here for free and other local businesses around Central Illinois. Be sure to also check out and consider donating to their Patreon page. Activator is also currently accepting submissions for their art issue (to be released in December) now through November 20th!
