Good morning on this cold, cold, day! Since we are so cold we might as well launch a sale to heat things up around here. And we’ll make it last a few days so you don’t have to come out today when it’s zero degrees out. We were going to have a couple of Dumb Records 8 Year Anniversary shows around this time, but another wave of covid hit harder than ever and we had to cancel our shows once again. So we are just going to move forward with a Dumb Records sale, happening January 7th-12th! Here’s what we got going on!
– 10% OFF ALL NEW VINYL!! – 20% OFF ALL turntables!! – 30% OFF all USED vinyl!! – 40% OFF ALL CDs!! – 50% OFF arcade entry!! – 60% OFF all dollar records!!
Have any questions? No, those sales are not good for online, just in our store. Oh yeah, we have new t-shirts printed. There isn’t a sale on those.
It’s been a minute since we’ve posted one of these. Okay, it’s been a minute since we posted anything. COVID-19 is still raging across the globe and it’s also cold outside. Good morning and happy Sunday. We’ve got a show happening at Dumb Records TONIGHT. It’s another hardcore show. This is also our last show happening this year??
Okay, for this show we’ve got a band called “Die” from Chicago! Stream their music on the player embedded below. Didn’t we just recently have a band called Die play here? Yes, but that was “DYE” from Kansas City, apparently a different band. Also on this show of course is heavy hitting hardcore band Prevention. Then another band called SPLIT. Didn’t they recently play here too? No, that show got cancelled and they didn’t get to play here, so now they are. And we’ve got War & Rumor from Jacksonville.
All of that is tonight at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. You better believe we are still checking for proof of vaccine or negative COVID test within 72 hours at the door. And duh, masks are required. Find a facebook event for this one right here.
There’s a big one going down here tonight at Dumb Records. There’s been a slight lineup change since this one was first announced.
We still have big time headliner Flatfoot 56 on the bill – American Scottish / Celtic punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They have played here in town a couple of times before, at least once as far back as a full decade ago at The Black Sheep Cafe. They have been a band since the year 2000 – that’s 20+ years. You can stream their latest album, Black Thorn on the player below. Also on this gig is the Brandon Carnes alternative short-song rock band “Night Night Boy“ – playing for the first time since the pandemic. The lineup change we have is that Attic Salt is no longer performing, instead we have a newer band called Yap Trap from Champaign! They don’t have any music recorded yet as far as we know.
This show is a $10 banger, and starts at 7:00 pm like most of our other shows. Find a facebook event right here. Also check out our shows page for a list of upcoming shows right here. And this part we’re serious about – like our other shows, we will be enforcing masks worn by all attendees and checking for proof of vaccine (either in physical card form or photos of one), or negative COVID test within 72 hours.
There’s a short and sweet show going on at a house in town we figured we might as well tell you about happening tonight! This one is at the CFP House and features three hardcore/punk bands.
Tonight the C.F.P. features the band “SlutBomb” from Ohio. That’s a pretty punk sounding band name, see if their music matches up on the player below. Also on this show is False Negative – from here? From the 217? Where is this band from, here or Champaign? Boy we are out of the loop. Opening things up is the newer hardcore band Pucker Up from right here in Springfield featuring members of other bands.
That all starts at 7:00 pm at C.F.P. We can’t tell you where the house is, you have to go on a scavenger hunt to find it. Admission is $7, sounds like masks are required and if you are unvaccinated you better stay at home. No facebook event either, this is the future.
That newest release from Timothy is called “TILT!” and you can stream those three tracks on the player embedded below. From Timothy’s website:
Full Tilt! Pinball is a pinball video game developed by Cinematronics and published by Maxis in 1995. It features pre-rendered 3D graphics and three tables—Space Cadet, Skulduggery, and Dragon’s Keep. A version of Space Cadet was bundled with Microsoft Windows from 95 to XP.
Also head on over to Timothy Donavan Russell’s bandcamp page where you can purchase the download for the release and check out more of his music. We’ve also included this one in our end of the year Best Of Local Music 2021 Poll which is ongoing now until Wednesday December 15th.
It’s that special time of year again. Boy it sure snuck up on us. That time when team up with Activator Magazine and we all get together and talk about our favorite local releases that came out this year! Also our favorite songs, shows, and all of that good stuff!
This year we have a total of 110 local releases listed out into three sections: a general category, hip hop releases, and then Mark Schwartz related projects. *That number is subject to change too if we can think of any more, or if anybody gives us any more to add. Usually we keep track of these things along with links to listen on our Springfield Album Archive Page, but we are very behind on that this year. We have to give a special shout-out to Activator for helping compile most of this list!
In addition to voting for your favorite releases, we are once again asking for you to list your favorite songs that came out from local artists in 2021, and this time around we brought the “live shows” section back as well! We also added a section for any mentions of other Central Illinois releases outside of Springfield, and also suggestion boxes for Activator and Dumb Records.
The results of this poll will be published in the January 2022 issue of Activator! It might be published online on our site at some point after that. We might be looking for help in doing write-ups for all of the winning entries here in the coming days and weeks.
Whoops, it’s probably been a couple of weeks since we have done one of these. There are a lot of people coming in asking for things now a days. We are still putting out a lot of records. Good morning! Tonight we’ve got another show happening at our space! There are only three acts performing instead of six – how appropriate for a Tuesday night show!
For this show we have the national touring indie/emo band from Atlanta, Georgia called World’s Greatest Dad. (That’s WGD for short, and you can stream their latest release on the bandcamp player embedded below). Actually you know what, stream both of their latest releases on the player below. Also on this show is Tilt Warning – the fairly new three-piece emo band from here and Central Illinois. Opening things up is indie rock act Kate Laine, who we are excited to see back here at Dumb for the first time since before the pandemic!
All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $10. And yes we WILL once again be checking for proof of vaccines and masks will be required. Find a facebook event for this one right here!
