SHADOWS_web.jpg

We have a big show we are announcing to you all this afternoon! Exactly one month from today on Saturday, October 20th we are pleased to be bringing 1960’s garage/psychedelic group The Shadows of Knight to Black Sheep. If you can believe it, this band was formed in 1965 and are originally from the suburbs of Chicago. Original vocalist Jimy Sohns will be performing with the band. They have a good number of albums under their belt, and you ALL know their rendition of the song “Gloria” which you can find on the youtube player below.

We do have two openers on this grand concert and that includes the younger garage group Rockford, and also Springfield legendary musician Tom Irwin. This will be one not to miss! The Shadows of Knight will hands down be the longest running band to ever perform at Black Sheep in our 13+ years as a venue.

This show is happening exactly one month from today. There are ticket pre-orders. Tickets are $12 in advance and you can find a link to purchase them online right here, also they are for sale at Dumb Records at all times. (We have a link to purchase tickets on the sidebar of our home page too). Tickets at the door are $15. The show will start at 7:00 pm. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Black Sheep, Dumb Fest Finalists in The Illinois Times’s “Best of Springfield 2018”

WEB-IMAGE.24788.jpg

It’s that time of year again (you know what’s up), once again The Illinois Times are in the middle of gathering votes for their annual “Best Of” series where you get to vote for your favorite local businesses, bands, musicians, and public figures here in Springfield. This year just like every year now for a good number of years, The Black Sheep has made it on a list of finalists for best “small music venue.” Dumb Fest has made it on a list of finalists for “best music festival”. Dumb Records does not fit into any category, sorry. There are also a few band categories this year, although a notable one “best punk band” is not even a category this year, neither is “best all ages band” which have both featured bands frequently playing Black Sheep in the past. We won’t tell you who to vote for for any of these categories, but you can find the link to vote below!

VOTE HERE.

The Illinois Times will be posting their results for their polls in their October 25th issue later on next month. Our own “Best of Springfield Music” poll is ran on this site in December, so look forward to that as a poll that highlights more local bands, shows, and releases for 2018.

Tonight! We have a Monday night show going on that will be short and sweet to kick off your work (or school) week. We just have three acts lined up, and all are great. This show features touring band from Hattiesburg, Mississippi (probably featuring members of some Hattiesburg bands that have stopped through before) – Stellatone. The band plays some “interstellar garage rock” which you can check out for yourself on the player embedded below. Also on this show is a new Springfield punk band “Final Order” which has played a couple of shows thus far. Opening things up is a brand new new Springfield project called Schedule One, we we have been told brings in some great noisy psychadelic madness.

This show will go quick! It starts at 7:00 pm and is just $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Videos: Graveswitcher & MAC at Black Sheep Fest 2018

39900640_1886729531370474_7771833701108809728_o.jpg

Look-ee here, today we are bringing you a couple of videos of songs we took from Black Sheep Fest 2018, which happened right around one month ago on August 11th. These two videos are snippets of sets of Graveswitcher and MAC and you can find them embedded below. The MAC song is “Authority” which the band released the official music video and recording for the song last week. Then the Graveswitcher video is of them performing their song “The Toob” and is very movement-heavy, just how some of you like it. (Slam-Cam 2018).

Check out our vids/pics page on our site for a long list of other videos taken over the years at Black Sheep. Also Gordon Chang is an incredible man and took videos of the full sets of nearly every Black Sheep Fest performance, which you can find on his channel right here.

Black Sheep Band Lotto 2018

IMG_0827.jpg

It’s that time of year again. The Black Sheep Band Lotto Box is now OUT and alive inside Dumb Records from now until a week from now on Saturday, September 15th when names are drawn.

What is Black Sheep Band Lotto? This will be the fifth year we have held such an event. Willing participants for the next week put their own names into this box. Names are drawn in one week in groups of fours and fives. It is then the task of these groups to get together and form one band to perform one show two months from when the names are drawn. The Band Lotto Show will be held this year on Friday, November 16th.

*Note about the band lotto: putting your name into this box can be a serious commitment – at the very least it means getting together with a group of people at least once a week to write songs and play instruments. Do not put your name in this box if you are not prepared to do that. If you do not know how to play an instrument this means taking on a challenging task of practicing every day! Do NOT put anyone else’s name inside the Band Lotto Box, you will ruin it for everybody!!!

Names are drawn a week from today at the Black Sheep 13 Year Anniversary Show. Names will be drawn after the last band is done playing.
