Dumb Records 25¢** Downtown Sidewalk Sale Today

Happy Saturday, it’s a beautiful day outside and a perfect one for the downtown sidewalk sales which is kicking off right now. For the sidewalk sales, a number of downtown businesses take part in different sales, or putting stuff out on the sidewalks. We just made a crazy last minute decision and decided that everything we are putting out on the sidewalks today is going to just be 25¢. That’s right, we don’t even care anymore. We will also be holding an all day sale of 20% off everything else in our store. Enjoy!

In addition to all of that, local clothing brand “The Zodiac Custom” will be doing a pop-up shop inside the second room of our store! That will be happening from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Our store will be open Saturday from 10:00 am until after 8:00 pm – we have our hip hop show going on tonight starting at 7:30 pm.

Animals With Human Names: “Anti-Social / Duck’s Guts”

Hey hey hey, it’s time to bring you some new local music. Today we are bringing you two brand new hot tracks that just dropped by Animals With Human Names – local rap project that is actually performing at our big rap show happening tomorrow night. Those two songs are “Anti-Social” and “Duck’s Guts” and you can find them streaming on the player below. AWHN released his last album Basement Tapes a couple years ago in 2017 now.

Today on The Dumb Records Radio Show: Pistol Pete (The Twistin’ Tarantulas)

Today is Friday, which means another exciting episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show is on air (until we get taken off the air)! From 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM. Today’s magic guest we have… Pistol Pete, of the Detroit-based rockabilly band The Twistin’ Tarantulas! Pete recently moved here from Michigan and has been performing at Buzz Bomb Brewery not far from us – he’s actually performing there tonight. His full band will be playing here in Springfield for the first time on October 5th as part of Buzz Bomb’s Octoberfest. We will be talking to Pete about his experiences playing in Michigan bands throughout the years, playing his bands music, and also music from other local Springfield acts and bands that are coming to town.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Asa Dawson, The Wining Stretch, Mario Cannamela, Blue Parks

What’s up we have a show going on tonight! We are excited for this one, it’s a nice and sweet mostly acoustic, mostly solo show. At the top of the bill is Asa Dawson, who used to play in alternative / pop punk band The Junior Varsity, which was active for much of the 00’s and put out a few albums on Victory Records! This will surely be a treat. Another band coming back for this show we haven’t seen since the earlier days of Black Sheep is “The Winning Stretch” which we have been told are performing as a three piece full band. We’ve also got a solo set by Mario Cannamela of Bottom Bracket and countless other bands. Opening things up is a set by Blue (Blu?) Parks. Blu’s the only one of those who has a bandcamp player! Dumb Records Finalist In 3 “Best Of Springfield” Categories

Wow! It’s that time of year again. The Illinois Times has their Best of Springfield up and rolling. This is the first time around where we have our new downtown store up and rolling, which means we are in the running for Best New Downtown Business! Yippee! Then the two other categories we are in which are more usual for us “Best Music Shop” and “Best Small Live Music Venue”. Of course we are not the only ones in the running for all of these different categories. You can be sure to vote for all of your other favorite local businesses in many other categories ranging from food/drink, entertainment, goods & services, and even a whole section for cannabis! The section for bands and musicians seems a bit smaller this year, but it’s still there as well.

What’s up Springfield, we are here today to officially announce one of these *big* hardcore shows, you know? This one is happening on Friday, October 25th, don’t miss it. We got that big big hardcore band touring package for you. With the band “Mouth For War” at the top of the bill from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Stream their music on the player below. Actually the touring package is just two bands. The other band is Cold Shoulder coming from Toronto, Canada. Then we have three bands familiar to our space, including Capitol Offense from Decatur. And Time & Pressure, another familiar band from the St. Louis area. Opening things up is Prevention from right here, home grown in your backyard hardcore.

Dumb Records Participating In Downtown Sidewalk Sales This Saturday

That’s right, you heard it! Now that we are downtown, we get to participate in the Downtown Springfield Sidewalk Sales – which happen two Saturdays out of every year. We tried to do this back in the spring but it rained that day. Now the weather is looking much better at a high of 82 degrees and sunny. For the sidewalk sales, a number of downtown businesses take part in different sales, or putting stuff out on the sidewalks. For this we will be putting all of our $1 records out on the sidewalk, and will be holding an all day sale of 20% off everything in our store. Enjoy!

September 21st at Dumb Records: Sonny & Kade, Zach Goriszewski, Amy Quin & The Manic Depressives, Emily Hough, Zach Karraker

Look at this whopper of a show coming up in two weeks we have. On Saturday, September 21st. A little last minute 5-act pretty much all solo and mostly local show at our space, why not. Let’s take a look at what we got. At the top is actually a rap project called “Sonny & Kade” which we do not know much about. We do know there is music for right here. Next down the bill is Zach Goriszewski, former singer for the band Kickstart right here in town. In the middle is “Amy Quin & The Manic Depressives” from St. Louis. There is actually music for that one streaming on the player below, don’t pay attention to the name being “Dead Pilgrim” on that. Before that we have Emily Hough, the up and coming teen from Petersburg, Illinois that was actually a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice”! Amazing! Opening things up is yet another Zach! Zach Karraker playing some solo acoustic music.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Blushe, Prowess, “So Which Band Is Your Boyfriend In?” Documentary Screening

Tonight we have the first movie / documentary screening we are attempting to have in our new space! And we’ve got it paired up with two bands performing, for an all around well rounded event! Our friends at Activator Magazine approached us about the possibility of us doing a showing of a new documentary from the UK exploring gender in the DIY scene called “What Band Is Your Boyfriend In?“. Here is a description from the facebook page:

This documentary features the views of a range of women/gender-fluid individuals from all walks of life within the UK music scene. It looks at how and why people get involved in music, the positive and the not-so-positive experiences, and the possible ways we can change things.

The gender divide exists – there’s no doubt about it. And recently there have been an increasing number of press articles on the issue, but they only scratch the surface. So, Which Band is Your Boyfriend in? provides an in-depth account of the situation.

From the outset it was my intention to create a film which could have an impact on the awareness of equality issues in the UK music scene. I hope that this project will inspire young people to pick up an instrument, learn to record music or just get out there to see live bands perform.

We also have two bands on the bill – if we had to guess how we will have it set up, we will likely have the bands go first and then the movie screening directly after. Bands performing include the incredibly talented alternative / punk group Blushe, and then the male-fronted hardcore band Prowess.
