Dumb Fest 4-Ever is really here, the big kickoff is just hours away starting at 6:00 pm at Black Sheep. This is the first night of the three-day festival, and today will be the tamest in terms of number of bands performing. Let’s take a look at the Black Sheep schedule tonight:

VADERBOMB – 9:30
KELUT – 9:00
LOWERED A.D. – 8:20
DISPARO! – 7:45

We are going to be starting things right on time, and that goes for shows this entire weekend! Tonight the admission is $10, of course you do not need a Dumb Fest gold pass to attend. There are rumors on a secret aftershow somewhere, show up to the main show to find more details on that. The Illinois Times: “Dumb, Dumber, Dumb Fest”

dumbfest_02.21622.widea.0.jpg

The Illinois Times this week features a great article on Dumb Fest, which if you can believe it kicks off here at Black Sheep tomorrow night. The issue of The Illinois Times came out today, and the article takes more of an in depth look at the planning behind this year’s festival, including road blocks and community members stepping up after festival organizer Brian Galecki has ended up in the hospital for the past couple of weeks with a collapsed lung (he is out as of yesterday). The Illinois Times also talks directly to George Sinclair and Kyle Ratliff. From the article:

One positive byproduct of Galecki’s illness is that it is forcing other members of the scene to take ownership, a prospect that Ratliff sees as both intimidating and exhilarating. “It’s really a beautiful thing, everyone stepping up, making CDs, making flyers, printing out handbills, promoting as much as we can and getting the grounds of Southtown up to snuff so we can host 50 bands. It’s stressful but I think all of us are working toward that moment where it’ll be like, hey, we can actually do this. We’ve got this!”

Check out the full article online right here, or pick up a copy of The Illinois Times at different locations around town for the next week. Check out our Dumb Fest 4-Ever page for more info on the fest right here.

Moondead: “Moondead”

Seems like lately there has just been an unlimited amount of new music from bands who are playing Dumb Fest this upcoming weekend! Today we are bringing you the long-awaited 5-track self-titled EP from Springfield groove-punk band Moondead. The EP features previously released track “Moon” and four other goodies. You can find that streaming below, or also head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can download the songs at your own price.

Moondead will be playing Saturday, the main day of Dumb Fest. According to our official schedule, they are set to go on sometime around 6:15. Check out our Dumb Fest 4-Ever page for more Dumb Fest info right here.

June 18th at Black Sheep: Trouveur, Dedwayte, 108th Street, Abolith

The weekend following Dumb Fest we have a few shows going on, most of them pretty short and sweet compared to this crazy weekend we have coming up. This is a four band rock show happening on Saturday, June 18th. Be sure to check out The Horse Show going on during the day at the Refuge Ranch as well. For this show we have a local band called “Trouveur” who have not yet performed at the Black Sheep. In fact, this whole show might be made of local bands performing at Black Sheep for the first time! Check out one of Trouveur’s songs streaming on the player below. For this show we also have the heavy metal group Dedwayte. Then before that we’ll be taking a trip over to 108th Street (to see the band 108th Street). Opening things up looks like we have a newer local metal band called Abolith.

This show will start a little bit earlier at 6:30 pm, and this time around admission is $10 unless you pick up a ticket beforehand from one of the bands for $8. Check out a facebook event for this concert right here. Also check out what else we are planning this summer on our shows page.

Dumb Fest 4-Ever Two Days Away, Set Times

officialsetsetimes_4gold.jpg

It’s hard to believe it, but Dumb Fest 4-Ever is only two days away and we are probably just days away from looking at the biggest, hottest, and craziest festival that has ever happened here in Southtown. For those of you who have not yet seen, the official set times and breakdown of each show has been posted on a final flier (shown above). We’ll have print-outs available of this at the festival along with a nice little fest guide. Feel free to come check out all of those shows, or even just one or two of them! You don’t have to have a festival pass to go to any of those shows, and you can see the individual prices for each listed on the schedule.

Dumb Fest gold passes are still available for $25 at Dumb Records or online right here. The gold pass gets you admission to all of the Dumb Fest shows that are happening during the day (all of the except the aftershows). Gold passes will be on sale until Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Also don’t forget to head over to our Dumb Fest 4-Ever page for links to all of the bands playing this year, or the Dumb Fest facebook event.

June 17th at Black Sheep: Ceiling Lust, Pretend I’m Not There, Mario Cannamela, Blue Parks

On Friday, June 17th we have an all-local show coming up that is going to be very “chill” and relaxed and just full of solo projects. None of these projects have any band links or any music online, sorry. At the top of the bill we have the newer mysterious industrial project called Ceiling Lust. And then pictured above and next on the list is the loud, ambient guitar project of B.J. Pearce called “Pretend I’m Not There.” Then we have a couple of solo acoustic performers. The first of those is Mario Cannamela (of bands Wir Können and Livin’ Thing), and then we have Blue Parks (of the band Pryss).

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what other shows we have coming up at Black Sheep this summer.

War Magic: “What Happens Now”

The ambient/folk dream band War Magic remains pretty inactive in terms of live performances in Springfield, but is continuing to produce new music to be heard. Today we are coming at you with a new single from the project, being called “What Happens Now.” You can listen to the new song below, or head over to War Magic’s bandcamp page where you can download the song at your own price.

War Magic released their debut EP Cyclomancy in 2013, and have put out a number of hit music singles in the years since then. Members have also been working on the project “Night/Hex” in recent years.

July 4th at Black Sheep: Capitol Offense, Nequient, Starlorde, Torture Trend

1511727_1657503194482259_1766350815029577445_o

For the past few years we haven’t been too big on shows happening on the 4th of July at Black Sheep but looks like this year it’s happening. This show is happening on Monday, July 4th and it will be a real banger. We have the Decatur Illinois-based metallic hardcore band Capitol Offense playing. Then the touring act on the bill is Nequient from Chicago (pictured above). You can check out some of Nequient‘s music on the player streaming below. Also we have a couple of patriotic local bands on the bill, including Starlorde to represent those stars and stripes, and also Torture Trend.

This show will be another 7:00 pm, $5 show. It might get out in time for us all to catch the fireworks downtown. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our shows page for a better look at everything else going on at Black Sheep this summer.

Here we have a show happening at Black Sheep at the end of this month on Wednesday, June 29th. This show will feature a couple of bands we haven’t seen in a minute, notably the once Central-Illinois pop punk project, now Chicago-based Horrible Things. Stream Horrible Things’s LP on the player below. We also have Springfield pop punk power band Hospital Job, who we have not seen on a show in a minute. We also have the grunge punk three piece SAP. And then looks like opening things up we have the newer feel good alternative rock band featuring members of Nephrons and Say Something, called Attic Salt.

This show will be a standard 7:00 pm, $5 show. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this summer.
