Local legendary country rock band Lick Creek have released their first (?) full length album of original music, and what do you know, we have many copies for sale in our record store (pictured above). We are working on getting that local music section back up and running! The new album is called Too Damn Country and cover art is designed by our very own Dumb Records volunteer of the month Brian Galecki. You can stream one of those songs on the youtube player below, or head over here to stream all of the songs on Youtube. Also head over to the Lick Creek website where you can find links to download the album.

Lick Creek have a lot of shows lined up in the area (none at our spot, but you can view them all here). You better believe we are adding this one to our Springfield album archive under releases that have came out this year! Yeehaw!

Happy birthday Activator Magazine! Well, maybe not this exact day, but one year ago in June of 2018 was the first issue of Activator that came out – a free local monthly magazine that has been doing an amazing job at covering what’s going on in Central Illinois DIY music and culture for the past year. Tonight we are celebrating one year of Activator with a show happening next to us at Bread Sheep. The lineup for this show features punk rockers MAC at the top of the bill – who will be performing here in Springfield for the first time actually! Nice! By the way look at that great flier by Carol Weems of Activator Magazine, great job Carol. Who’s next on the lineup? HECK?!? The solo project of Hannah Songer out of Bloomington. Also a brand new Springfield band called SNUFF RIDER will be playing their first show?? Featuring members of Imaginary Colours and Evan Mitchell’s one man band! Before that… a very rare rap performance by Aaron “Uncanny” Phillips!! Wow!! In all of our years working with Aaron hosting hip hop shows at our spaces we have never had him listed as a performer! Then opening things up or playing somewhere on the bill is some sort of karaoke set by DJ Milk and DJ Jess!!! We can not believe all of the wild and cool things going on for this show!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. All proceeds will be split between our show space and Activator Magazine. There will also be cake and “free sh*t”! Wow! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space in the new future!

Dexter Anodyne: “The River”

Screen Shot 2019-06-21 at 11.44.46 AM.png

Today we bring you *finally* the first recorded song available from Springfield solo musician Dexter Anodyne, who has been playing shows at Bread Stretchers / Black Sheep / elsewhere in town for at least a year now (maybe longer?). The song is called “The River” and you can find it streaming on the youtube player embedded below, or on youtube right here. The song comes from an upcoming album by Dexter called Weeping Venus which is being released on CD by a newly created local label called Signal Element Records. The album is scheduled to be released on July 19th.

Dexter’s only show lined up in town right now as far as we can tell is a week from tomorrow on Saturday, June 29th at Buzz Bomb Brewery with Black Esther and The Randys. Stay tuned for any more info on an official CD release show for her new album.

July 13th at Bread Sheep: The Dixie Narcos, Tim Buchanan, Father Talljasper, Adam Maletich

timbuchananflier_web.jpg

Good evening! We have a nice show to tell you about tonight. It is happening on Saturday, July 13th and will be a nice country / pyschedelic / folk show. It features touring artist Tim Buchanan – who was actually a member of Oklahoma hardcore band American Hate who had played Black Sheep a few times. Tim’s solo material is nothing like American Hate, and you can stream it on the player below. Also on this show is psychedelic rock group “The Dixie Narcos” from Jacksonville, that rarely ever play live. What a treat to have them on. Then also there is a newer group from some town we know nothing about called Canton, Illinois. The band is “Father Talljasper” and they also play some psychedelic / indie rock stuff. Opening things up is local solo acoustic artist Adam Maletich.

Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Admission is $6.00 this time around and things kick off at 7:00 pm. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Bread Sheep.

Levitt AMP Music Series Tonight: Oro Solido, Jerry Palacios

Are you hungry some more of that free downtown live music? We sure are. Don’t forget that the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series is an ongoing thing throughout the summer: and tonight is free concert #4 in the series bringing you some of the hottest Latin pop music in the whole entire nation. Tonight is the Latin dance musician – Oro Solido performing for free out on the block! The opener for tonight is Jerry Palacios. Here’s a description of Oro Solido from the Levitt website:

Blending folksy percussion, fast-paced rhythms and catchy chorus melodies, it’s easy for audiences to fall in love with Oro Solido’s infectious merengue grooves. Fronted by charismatic bandleader Raul Acosta, Oro Solido has become one of the most popular outfits to introduce mainstream American audiences to merengue music. Born in the Dominican Republic, but raised in New Jersey, Acosta played bass in the Latin Jazz group Caribe Band, before forming his own path. Comprised entirely of Puerto Rican and Dominican musicians, Oro Solido officially came to life in March 1994. The same year, the group issued their self-titled debut, featuring the smash single “Esta Cache,” that became an immediate hit with the merengue crowd.

Once again it is looking like the weather is going to cooperate and it is going to be another lovely night in the big city for this free outdoor concert. It starts at 6:00 pm with the opener and goes until 8:30 pm. Out on the Y-Block between 4th and 5th streets between Capitol Avenue and the Governor’s Mansion. Find a facebook event right here. Also check out what other Levitt AMP shows are coming up out on the block right here.

Videos: HUSHED at Bread Sheep 6-15-19

Screen Shot 2019-06-19 at 2.02.45 PM.png

Today we bring you a pretty low-quality video of a band playing at Bread Sheep this past Saturday. The sound quality is not great at all especially on where the camera was positioned. Sorry, we’ll get better at this. Anyways, check that out on the player below, or on youtube right here. We’re trying to get our youtube page more active again or something.

Also check out the vids/pics page on our site for a bunch of (mostly old Black Sheep) show videos.

Tonight at Bread Sheep: Jordan Collins, Flunkie, Alice Currie, Layers, Kate Laine

Good show last night everybody, good job. It’s two week night shows in a row for us this week! There is another one happening tonight! It’s going to be a good one – for fans of soft indie or acoustic music. This features touring act Jordan Collins from Spokane, Washington who is just finishing up a tour with Kate Laine that has been going on for the past week or so. This is the last date of the tour for them. Stream Jordan’s music on the player below if you want. Also on this show is solo act Flunkie – who released a new song that we posted about a couple of days ago. Nice. Layers will be performing as well, the two-piece, post-Renae, poetry fusion project. Alice Currie of the band Attic Salt will be performing a solo set as well. And of course, we have Kate Laine on the bill too. This time around it’s just going to be a solo set for Kate.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Bread Slippers shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Bread Splashers in the coming months.

Tonight is an all around good rock show. For this we have the return of Double Grave to Springfield from Minneapolis! The band had played at Black Sheep last year. This time they are bringing another band called “The Cult of Lip” with them! Stream some of The Cult of Lip’s music on the player below. For this show we also have Nectar performing for the first time at Bread Stretchers (they also performed at Black Sheep last time Double Grave was in town). Opening things up is The Telephone Junkies! (who are also playing our next show here on the 12th).
