Last night, true Springfield rock and roll history was made!! If you were among the hundreds in attendance last night, then you could probably feel just how magical it was. We feel the need to once again thank everyone who helped make last night possible – of course thank you Shonen Knife and The Hooten Hallers for coming and playing! Thank you Slingshot Dakota and coming and playing an aftershow in our own space as well! Thank you Jason Perry for being the one to originally get in touch with Shonen Knife about playing here in the first place, we can not take credit for getting the band! Thank you of course to Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s for being the best Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s in the world, and to this tweet from Sean Neumann for going completely viral yesterday. And of course thank you to all of the sponsors that were willing to chip in to help us meet the funding we needed to make the concert possible and for free to the whole community! Those are:

Nightshop
Grab-a-Java, Inc.
Activator Magazine
Hardee’s
Buzz Bomb Brewing Company
Copper Pot Cooking Studio
Dumb Records
The Real 217 Prublems
ColorDerm Permanent MakeUP
Good Heart Tattoos
The Radon Lounge
Rail Splitter CrossFit
Redbird Electric Tattooing

And of course thank you all for coming out, that was by far the biggest turnout event on a Monday night in Springfield we have ever seen!!

Tonight at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s: Shonen Knife, The Hooten Hallers + Aftershow tonight at Dumb Records: Slingshot Dakota, The Telephone Junkies

Tonight is THE night!! There are four bands playing tonight between a big main show and big aftershow at what is certainly a once in a lifetime chance to see Shonen Knife from Japan play for free right here in Springfield. That’s right if you haven’t heard by now we don’t know what, but Shonen Knife from Japan, formed in 1981, is playing at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s. They are on their 22nd full length album, “Sweet Candy Power” and on a big U.S. tour! Stream one of their earlier albums below. They are coming through with The Hooten Hallers playing some rockabilly from Missouri. That show starts at 6:00 pm at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s (2501 Stevenson Drive), and it’s FREE. Car pooling or finding elsewhere other than the main Hardee’s lot is encouraged. Find a facebook event for that one right here.

THEN, after that there is a big aftershow over at Dumb Records. That one features big Top Shelf Records touring duo Slingshot Dakota from western Pennsylvania somewhere. The Telephone Junkies will be kicking things off for that one, we are shooting to start things at 9:00 or so, or whenever makes sense from whenever Shonen Knife will be finishing their set. Find a facebook event for that one right here. That show is $8 admission.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Starstuff, Reggie & The Demons, Layers, Vertrell Yates

There’s so much going on this weekend that we almost forgot that we do have an all local show lined up at Bread tonight. This one is going to be neat! A couple of the acts are hot off the open mic nights and straight onto this real deal show. Okay, so at the top of the bill is Starstuff – a fairly new local rock act that had played Black Sheep at one point towards the end of things. We don’t think they have anything online. There is also “Layers” – the poetry music fused duo and sometimes solo act. Come and eat it up with your ears. Reggie & The Demons is playing… who most of us know as “Niko”, this is the name of his new solo project that performed at our last open mic. Then opening things we have the bass / poetry fusion act Vetrell Yates, also playing his first real deal show at our space.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at the near future.

Today on The Dumb Records Radio Show: Mikey Erg! (+maybe Derek Zanetti +maybe Jon Snodgrass)

mikeyergy.jpg

Wooooo!!! Happy car show weekend everybody. It’s that special time of year to get your cars out and play with them outside in the street. It’s also our special annual car show weekend episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show and we have a very special guest lined up. That is Mikey Erg formerly of punk rock group The Ergs!, also has performed with many other punk bands, and has released a couple of solo albums. Mikey is playing tonight at The Radon Lounge along with The Homeless Gospel Choir, Jon Snodgrass, and Looming. We might even be joined by the other touring acts on that show if we are lucky, and will be talking to all of them. Maybe we’ll be recording live from the streets of Springfield, maybe we will be recording in a studio with car noises playing in the background, it’s up to you to decide!!

The Dumb Records Radio Show airs this Friday and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm (until we are kicked off the airwaves, or something happens). You can listen online at wqnaradio.org. Also stream a bunch of our past episodes on our newly created Mixcloud page??? And there’s a rumor going around that we might be involved with a different “true freak” radio program that might be airing tonight any time between midnight and 4:00 am??

Prevention: “Another World” (Music Video)

Screen Shot 2019-09-25 at 5.18.36 PM.png

Today we bring you the *official* *final* music video for Springfield’s own hardcore band Prevention. The video is for their song “Another World” and it was shot by Elijah Settles at what we are pretty sure is a new show spot called “Bread” “Stretchers.” Check that out on the player below. Also head over to check out Elijah’s youtube page.

Check out many more Springfield music videos on our vids/pics page. Yes, Prevention does have more shows lined up. In fact, they are playing exactly one month from today on October 25th at our space.

October 20th at Dumb Records: Mended, Final Order, Bull Cult, Cal2apse, Oh Gosh

70960505_3020476471312673_6544436119264559104_o.jpg

What’s up! We have a show to announce right here. It’s happening on Sunday, October 20th right here at the space. What do we got? Some type of really fast hardcore band from Madison, Wisconsin called “Mended” at the top of the bill. Stream their music on the player below. Also on this show we’ve got Final Order. Good, fast, local hardcore, you know the drill.  Then what’s this, we have a new hardcore band from Central Illinois called Bull Cult? Is this the band that we are thinking it is? Featuring members of Ghost Key and Black Teeth from long long ago? Or we might be crazy. Another power electronics / noise act called “Col2apse” on the bill. Is that just pronounced “Collapse”? Opening things up is a brand new new Springfield band playing their first show we know nothing about called “Oh Gosh.”

That show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where we keep and active list for everything we’ve got coming up.

“Good Heart Tattoos” Coming Next Door To Dumb Records Later This Fall

IMG_9159.jpg

We certainly have quite the announcement to bring you this late afternoon! We have been holding off on spilling the beans on this one, but can finally let you all know that we are getting a new next door neighbor here in our new downtown home. That is Benny DeWitt who is opening up “Good Heart Tattoos” which is going to be a new tattoo studio located at 414 E Monroe Street, just on the other end of the alley. Here is Benny’s big announcement:

I am excited to announce that I am opening up my own place to make tattoos in Springfield. I will not be traveling for a while, but after doing so for quite a few years I believe I have a vision for what tattooing can be for our city.

A year ago I wrote some goals and wishes in my journal and one of them was to figure out where I want to open shop permanently and the other was to pick up as much knowledge of my craft as possible.

After heavy consideration, I decided that the clients and friendships I’ve made over the last decade tattooing here mean a ton and I don’t want to miss out on my friends and family.

It is my goal to bring the absolute best tattooing home and build the culture and space it deserves!

I will still be tattooing at Black Moon until I announce an opening date early fall.
If you’d like to get in and bless me with work while I undertake this journey please do! It will be a labor of love and I will work hard to bring the best tattooing I can to our region!

More info on a grand opening and celebration will be announced later on! In the meantime, go follow Good Heart Tattoos on facebook right here.

Shonen Knife 9/30 Aftershow at Dumb Records: Slingshot Dakota, The Telephone Junkies

slingshotaftershowflier.jpg

Today we are excited to announced that we have made a kinda last minute decision to take on an aftershow for Shonen Knife from Japan who will be playing at Rock N’ Roll one week from tomorrow on Monday, September 30th. The aftershow we are saying is going to start roughly around 9:00 pm over at Dumb Records. It will feature national touring duo Slingshot Dakota from Pennsylvania on Topshelf Records. Check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Also opening things up first on this show is The Telephone Junkies from right here in Springfield. This makes a total of four bands performing throughout the night including Shonen Knife and their opener The Hooten Hallers. Surely these are exciting times.

That show starts tentatively at 9:00 pm at Dumb Records (418 E Monroe) and admission for that one is $8. (The main show is still free). Find a facebook event for the aftershow right here, and a facebook event for Shonen Knife right here. Also check out our shows page for a full list of everything we’ve got coming up.
