Details On Record Store Day “Drop Date” #2 at Dumb Records

Our first Record Store Day “Drop Date” at the end of last month seamed to go really well, so for the next one coming up on Saturday, September 26th (just less than a couple of weeks away), we are kicking it up one more notch (just a smidgen).

Record Store Day, which is usually a big annual event for us and other record stores around the globe in April, had been pushed back to June this year due to Covid-19, and then again to three separate “drop dates” in August, September, and October to still get exclusive records out to collectors and fans while trying to avoid crowds as much as possible.

For this second drop date on Saturday, September 26th – we are opening our store a tad bit earlier than usual at 10:00 am, and will be open until 7:00 pm. Our arcade will be open during those hours as well, limiting to four people at a time. We are still limiting the total amount of people in our building to ten.

We did order still a very limited amount of RSD exclusive releases this time around, and will also be planning on dropping an amount of new and used vinyl onto the shelves for the first time on that day. Some of the RSD exclusive releases we plan on getting include: George Clinton, Batman & Robin, Death Piggy, Destiny’s Child, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Jerry Garcia, Dizzy Gillespie, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Jimi Hendrix, Hootie & The Blowfish, Meat Puppets, Mott The Hoople, Primus, Ramones, Replacements, Residents, Britney Spears, Tegan & Sara, and the Hackers soundtrack. ***Note, we are not guaranteed to get any of those titles, and the ones we get are first-come, first-serve.

More info on all of those titles is available at recordstoreday.com.

State Journal-Register: “There’s a fierce battle in downtown Springfield and Dumb Records is the epicenter”

We have once again made the local paper it looks like. Yesterday the article, “There’s a fierce battle in downtown Springfield and Dumb Records is the epicenter” went up online over at sj-r.com, and it appears as if this is going to be in print tomorrow for the big Sunday newspaper in the local business section. Thank you to Brenden Moore for writing the article. From the article:

“Running a small business amid a global pandemic is not easy. Many conversations center around how to adapt to the current reality of social distancing and capacity limits and simply surviving in order to reach better times.

This is perhaps most pertinent for business owners running brick-and-mortar stores in downtown Springfield, who have been hurt by the loss of foot traffic as much of the downtown labor force continues to work from home while tourists have stayed away.”

WordPress, why won’t you let us do quote-blocks anymore? Why did you have to take that away? You can check out the full article online right here. You also should be able to find it in tomorrow’s Sunday print issue of the State Journal-Register.

Mayor Langfelder Issues Emergency Order Extending Downtown Pinball Tournament Round One To Today

Can you believe it, you may have seen this news going viral on the internet last night / this morning, but if not – the unexpected has happened: last night mayor Jim Langfelder showed up to our store with this signed Emergency Order extending round one of our pinball tournament one more day. Then he proceeded to go into the arcade, and set a new high score of over 33 million, currently beating Recourse One here in the first round. Downtown Springfield Inc. caught a video of some of this happening.

We were going to post a big update for the first round today, but now that is pushed back tomorrow. You can expect an updated tournament bracket and clear schedule for the rest of the tournament tomorrow. Follow our facebook page for daily updates on the tournament.

Lincoln’s Legends: “Why Is Everyone Flipping Out Over Dumb Pinball?”

Thank you to our friends once again at Lincoln’s Legends for doing a quick piece on our big Downtown Pinball Tournament and how it came about. The article called “Flipping Out Over Dumb Pinball” has a nice little write-up on the idea of the tournament, and a 18 minute or so long interview or phone conversation where we are kind of goofing off. You can check that all out on the Lincoln’s Legends site right here. From the article:

The record store is open until 7 pm and Brian mentioned that many business owners will stop on thier way home to check out the store as well as their “competition”. Many even choose to visit during their lunch breaks. The bracket is massive and takes up most of the left wall across from the counter. This close proximity almost forces engagement.

The final round of our big pinball tournament is TODAY. This means we expect a lot of last minute scores to be rolling in today, and we will also likely post a big update including an updated and revised tournament bracket tomorrow to clearly map out the remaining rounds.

Demons On Wheels: “Souvenirs”

Today we bring you a brand new album from Springfield recording project Demons on Wheels. Demons on Wheels is one of a handful of projects put together by Mark Schwartz as mastermind and multi-instrumentalist, as featured on last month’s cover of Activator Magazine. This new album is called Souvenirs and you can find it streaming on the player below. You can also listen to and purchase more of Mark’s music over on the Demons on Wheels bandcamp page.

Demons on Wheels also released another album, Still Left Standing at the beginning of this year. We’ve also added this one to our Springfield album archive page, bringing us to a total of 44 local releases we have kept track of so far this year.

Free Downtown Parking Extended Until End of September (For Now)

Here is just another post to let you all know once again that parking downtown is free, and our wonderful Mayor has once again extended that free parking until the end of this month. We have decided to utilize some of this good free parking ourselves and plopped our elephant in front of our store (you aren’t actually supposed to take up spots for more than two hours though).

Parking has been free since we’ve been in a global pandemic. The mayor also came in and played pinball yesterday and set a score of 12,228,250 in our tournament.

Round One of Downtown Pinball Tournament Extended, Store Closed Monday

Okay, time for an update on a couple of things.

Our big downtown Springfield pinball tournament has been going very strong and has been a lot of fun. You might be following us on facebook where we have been posting updates as new scores of businesses participating are coming in. We also have all current scores and listings posted on our pinball forum. Today we are letting you and participating businesses know that we are pushing back the deadline for round one scores until the end of the night on Tuesday, September 8th. The deadline was previously this Sunday, September 6th. There is a retailers meeting at our space on Tuesday so this will allow some more businesses one more chance at putting down scores. Good luck! After Tuesday night we will be posting a big update including some adjusted and final dates to later rounds, and an updated tournament bracket.

In addition to that news, our store is going to be closed on Monday for Labor Day!
