Thank you to our friends once again at Lincoln’s Legends for doing a quick piece on our big Downtown Pinball Tournament and how it came about. The article called “Flipping Out Over Dumb Pinball” has a nice little write-up on the idea of the tournament, and a 18 minute or so long interview or phone conversation where we are kind of goofing off. You can check that all out on the Lincoln’s Legends site right here. From the article:
“The record store is open until 7 pm and Brian mentioned that many business owners will stop on thier way home to check out the store as well as their “competition”. Many even choose to visit during their lunch breaks. The bracket is massive and takes up most of the left wall across from the counter. This close proximity almost forces engagement.“
The final round of our big pinball tournament is TODAY. This means we expect a lot of last minute scores to be rolling in today, and we will also likely post a big update including an updated and revised tournament bracket tomorrow to clearly map out the remaining rounds.
Today we bring you a brand new album from Springfield recording project Demons on Wheels. Demons on Wheels is one of a handful of projects put together by Mark Schwartz as mastermind and multi-instrumentalist, as featured on last month’s cover of Activator Magazine. This new album is called Souvenirs and you can find it streaming on the player below. You can also listen to and purchase more of Mark’s music over on the Demons on Wheels bandcamp page.
Demons on Wheels also released another album, Still Left Standing at the beginning of this year. We’ve also added this one to our Springfield album archive page, bringing us to a total of 44 local releases we have kept track of so far this year.
Here is just another post to let you all know once again that parking downtown is free, and our wonderful Mayor has once again extended that free parking until the end of this month. We have decided to utilize some of this good free parking ourselves and plopped our elephant in front of our store (you aren’t actually supposed to take up spots for more than two hours though).
Parking has been free since we’ve been in a global pandemic. The mayor also came in and played pinball yesterday and set a score of 12,228,250 in our tournament.
Our big downtown Springfield pinball tournament has been going very strong and has been a lot of fun. You might be following us on facebook where we have been posting updates as new scores of businesses participating are coming in. We also have all current scores and listings posted on our pinball forum. Today we are letting you and participating businesses know that we are pushing back the deadline for round one scores until the end of the night on Tuesday, September 8th. The deadline was previously this Sunday, September 6th. There is a retailers meeting at our space on Tuesday so this will allow some more businesses one more chance at putting down scores. Good luck! After Tuesday night we will be posting a big update including some adjusted and final dates to later rounds, and an updated tournament bracket.
In addition to that news, our store is going to be closed on Monday for Labor Day!
What is happening. Why is WordPress so different. Why can’t we make the arrivals photo go bigger? Is everything still looking the same? Hello?
Welcome to another week at Dumb Records, the pinballs are flying and so are the records. We had a very successful Record Store Day “drop date” weekend this past weekend even though we told you all you would be disappointed if you showed up in our selection. Apparently that didn’t stop a lot of people from coming in and buying things. There will be another one of those “drop dates” at the end of this month on Saturday September 26th as well, be on the lookout for more info on that one soon.

Today we bring you a new four-song EP from a new Springfield project that we know absolutely nothing about. We don’t know who is in this, where it came from, if it’s going to ever play any live shows or release more music, or what. The project is called “Tilt Shift” and this Game Over EP mysteriously surfaced as a link deep and hidden in the Springfield Underground Pinball and Music forum. You can check it out streaming on the player embedded below. Also head on over to the Tilt Shift bandcamp page where you can download the music at your own price. From the Tilt Shift bandcamp page:
Tilt Warning’s debut release, Game Over EP, is a collection of b-sides written and recorded in 2020. Are we the first band ever to debut with just b-sides? Probably. But these songs didn’t have a future planned and the pandemic put a hold on future plans, so we wanted to share these songs with you in the meantime. Enjoy!
Long running local hip hop artist Cornbread has hit us with a brand new song a couple of days ago called “Remember.” It features other local artists Beenie Blanco and Meezy Killafield. Check out the song embedded on the youtube player below.
Check out more of Cornbread’s music on his bandcamp page right here. Also don’t forget to check out 217hiphop.com for more local hip hop news.
