In case you have not heard, Dumb Records is the place to be. Especially on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The new South Town record store located at 1107 South Grand East won’t let you down. There are new items coming into the store every week. Below is a list highlighting some of those items this week. October 23rd at Black Sheep: Our Lady, Alaska, Twin Cities, Loses the Mighty

October is coming up in a couple of months! This means fall shows will be upon us soon and times will be cool. Check out this show on Friday, October 23rd, it has a rad lineup lineup that will be full of heart and flannels. The local sobsters in Our Lady will be starting off the night with their emotionally riveting tunes. It’s sure to be a treat. Hailing from Nevada, touring band Alaska will have some alternative and progressive tunes for everyone to enjoy- so make sure to support them and check them out as well as the other touring band Twin Cities, who will be coming from Vegas. Their indie tunes are sure to please so if you want to hear a morsel of what well done Vegas indie sounds like, come see this band! Last but not least we have our good friends in Loses The Mighty playing this show as well so come check out their hardcore tunes! The night should be a super-fly-heart-string-sandwhich for yer ears.

All of this will be taking place at 7pm–to get spooky, bring $5 for the door charge. Check out the facebook event for other info and updates, and be sure to check out our other upcoming shows! Remember to stay weird.

New Band Pages: I’m Dead Inside

Today we are bringing you a new band page for newer Springfield screamo/scramz band I’m Dead Inside. The band just played Black Sheep Fest 2014 this past weekend and it sure was loud. You can check out that new page right here. I’m Dead Inside also recently released a new cassette under Springfield label Guard Records. You can find those cassettes at Dumb Records and expect the songs to stream online real soon. You can also order the cassette online right here.

I’m Dead Inside isn’t the only band we have a band page for. You can find the long list of 70-something band pages we have built here on our current bands page. Black Sheep Fest 2014: Success!

We want to say thank you to each one of you amazing individuals for making it out to Black Sheep yesterday for the most action-packed Black Sheep Fest that we’ve had yet. Thank you to all 23 of the bands that played (including the surprise Nighthawk and F///\\\M sets). This was the most bands we’ve had play at Black Sheep Fest and there are more great bands coming out of Springfield right now then ever before.

You can be on the lookout for photos and videos from the fest later this upcoming week. You can also be on the lookout for a Black Sheep nine year anniversary show announcement in the very near future. We are almost into our tenth year as an all ages space in Springfield and it has been a wild ride. Our next big event at Black Sheep is our Band Lotto show on August 16th, but there are also plenty of other great shows happening here in the near future that you should check out!

Today at Black Sheep: Black Sheep Fest 2014

Lookie lookie Black Sheep Fest is finally upon us and it’ll be happening today! Black Sheep Fest is a celebration of Springfield local music and Black Sheep as an all ages venue since 2005. There are 21 bands playing this year all local to Springfield. Check out the order of the bands that will be playing (starting with the last band first for exciting effect)

Some special things to take note of: The Blind Social is the battle of the bands winner so check them out. There will also be a really epic battle set between Soap Scum and Table Drama, so see who the victor is and don’t miss the theatrix. This will also be new hardcore band Knives (featuring the same members of Our Lady as well as Looming) playing at noon and this will be their first show, so don’t miss it!! They’ll be starting the fest off. Also, as you can see- Foxtail is playing a reunion show so this is your one rare chance to see Foxtail live again. There are so many rad things going on at this fest and in Southtown: there will be a donation based junk sale to help benefit the venue as well as people who would rather have other people’s junk rather than their own. Clay’s Popeye’s Barbeque (a few doors down from Dumb Records) will be featuring their new VEGAN options! Go buy their food during the fest, it’s legitimately tasty.

Come out to Black Sheep Fest today, it’ll start at noon for only $5! Don’t forget to stop by Dumb Records too, and overall just keep it real. Here’s some advice for preparing yourself for the fest: in the words of Molli Squires, “just go with it”.

Knives: “In From The Stills”

Today we are bringing you a brand new song from a brand new Springfield band called Knives. Knives is a new band featuring members of Our Lady, Looming, Mother Leopard, Asthma, Caterpillar Club, (the list goes on). Knives recently released a new song called “In From The Stills” off of their upcoming EP. You can stream that song below or also purchase it for $1 off of the Knives bandcamp page. Knives also has a new facebook page which you can check out right here. You can also expect the release to come out on cassette through Springfield label Guard Records.

Knives will be the first band performing at Black Sheep Fest 2014 tomorrow. They play right at noon, so be sure to come out early to catch their set.

Today is another episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show and today we have very special guest Molli Squires coming into South Town Studio to talk to our host Brandon Carnes. Molli will be here representing new Springfield band Knives and also Our Lady. Both bands will be playing Black Sheep Fest tomorrow- Knives will be kicking things off right at noon and Our Lady will also be closing the fest. Springfield folk duo Wilt Candy have recently debuted their first ever recordings with an eight-song EP, and today we are excited to share the new EP with you all. The Radon Lounge: “Horse Show Recap”

Springfield basement venue and Black Sheep buds The Radon Lounge have posted a recap of how their Horse Show went last month. The Horse Show took place in June at The Refuge Ranch just outside of Springfield. You can check out the recap on the Radon Lounge’s website right here. The Radon Lounge are also gearing up for their next show happening on Saturday, August 23rd. August 15th at Black Sheep: Atlas At His Finest, Bad Catman, Dahling, Teenage Swoon, JAG

We’re going to be having a really cool show coming up on Friday, August 15th. A hidden local act known as Atlas at his Finest will be playing an acoustic set that is sure to be heartfelt. Bad Catman from Champaign will be exhibiting some gnarly punker tunes which always proves to be fun. There will be two bands touring from Austin, Texas as well. Dahling will have some rad punk tunes to jig to so check them out. Teenage Swoon (of Guard Records) will have some super fly post-hardcore tunes and they’re sure to put on a good set, so definitely check them out as well. To round the night off, the junk punkers JAG will be playing weird stuff as usual and will probably cause mischief so after all the other bands have played, find out what they’re all about.

This show is another 7:00 pm, $5 show. Here’s the facebook event, bring your friends and make sure to check out the other rad shows we have coming around.
