Cassette Store Day at Dumb Records September 27th

cassettestoredaydumbLooks like September is shaping up to be a great month. We just announced our punk rock cookout earlier today and there is also going to be a Black Sheep anniversary show which we will be announcing soon. Today we are announcing a special event at Dumb Records in September and that is Cassette Store Day happening Saturday, September 27th. Much like Record Store Day, Cassette Store Day will feature some rare and limited releases exclusively on cassette. You can find a list of those releases right here on the Cassette Store Day site (although we can not promise that we will have every one in store). There will also be some sort of sale going on in the store during the day for non-Cassette Store Day items. Be on the lookout for more Cassette Store Day announcements soon.

Keep track of special events at Dumb Records and Black Sheep by following our shows page.

punkrockcookoutput2

With the summer drawing to a close and the beginning of the fall, it is time for a good old fashioned “punk rock cookout.” If you remember last year, we had our first annual “punk rock cookout” in June and it was great. Now we are having it again on Saturday, September 6th. Come out, bring food, come ready to eat food, or do whatever you want! We have heard that there will be vegan and non-vegan hotdogs. On top of food and cookouts, there will be plenty of bands. This show will feature The Timmys‘ first Black Sheep appearance in a short while. We also have newer Springfield ska name-changers, Bad Banshee. Then there will be one out of town band called Minor Decline from Galesburg, Illinois. Opening things up is a rare performance by fast hardcore/punk band Say Something.

The cookout and festivities will kick off at 6:00 pm, and show will start at 7:00 pm. Bring $5. You can find a facebook event for this right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall and summer.

Montagh: “Am I Enough Yet?”

a3391893740_10

This past weekend we were sad to see two Springfield bands go as they played their last show to a good crowd on Saturday night. Lovecow and Montagh both played their final shows together after a few years of bringing great folk music to Springfield. Today we are bringing you the final Montagh release- a 13 song CD entitled Am I Enough Yet?. You can stream that release below or head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can download all of the songs for $5.

Am I Enough Yet? is also being released on CD by Springfield label Patch Records. You can find copies of the CD at Dumb Records starting tomorrow (open from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm).

New Band Pages: Knives

fnivies

Here we are today bringing you another brand new page on our site for another brand new Springfield rock group. This one is for the new screamo band called Knives. Knives played their very first show at this year’s Black Sheep Fest and they blew us all away. The band features members of Our Lady, Looming, Asthma, Caterpillar Club, Foxtail, and a few other bands. If you head over to their newly created page (right here) you can read a little more about the band and stream some songs from their recently released EP. Be on the lookout for more Knives shows very soon.

Knives isn’t the only band we have a band page for. You can find the long list of 70-something band pages we have built here on our current bands page. Do you play in a Springfield band that hasn’t yet set up a page with us? We would love to hear from you! Get ahold of us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up.
