January 17th at Black Sheep: SAP, Sick Sad World, Person, The Funs, WARRS

Did you hear about this great show happening on Saturday, January 17th featuring an awesome five-band lineup? It is happening. This show will feature plenty of Springfield, St. Louis, and Chicago. On this show we have SAP– the indie spook rock three-piece band that are currently working on recording material. Then we have the saxophone-charged punk band Sick Sad World coming from Chicago. You can stream their music below. Also coming from Chicago is a newer indie post-punk band called Person. Person features members of some older Champaign bands Laughboy and Midstress. Next on the lineup is a two-piece band called The Funs coming from St. Louis. They are good. Starting things off is a brand new Springfield hardcore band called WARRS. We have been told that it features members of Loses The Mighty and Soap Scum.

Holiday Show Tonight at Black Sheep: Big Storm (Final Show), Lamp, Coed Pageant, Wir Konnen

Tonight is a magical night because we are hosting the annual Black Sheep Holiday Show! Bring your hot chocolate, eggnog, and holiday cheer. This show will be the last ever performance by Springfield feel good rock group Big Storm. Big Storm features Brandon Carnes of Looming and South Town Studio on guitar and vocals. They just released a final four song EP earlier this week which you can stream below. Also on this show and coming from Chicago is the experimental-jazz group called Lamp. You are all in for a treat. We also have the indie rock duo, Coed Pageant coming from Champaign for this show. Opening things up are the emo rock three-piece power group Wir Können.

Big Storm: “Final EP”

a2336514639_10Today we have a stream of the final Big Storm release, and that is this four-song “Final EP.” Stream those four songs below or head over to the Big Storm bandcamp page where you can download them at your own price. This EP along with a good number of other local releases are in the running in our Best of Springfield Music 2014 poll. You can go vote in that from now until December 24th right here, and we will be posting the results before the end of the year.

Big Storm will be playing their final show at The Black Sheep Holiday Show. The band formed back in 2011 and singer Brandon Carnes continues to remain active in Looming, The Timmys, and F///\\\\M.

Today On Black Sheep Radio: Vincent-Tennell

Today is Friday, so that means there is another episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show hitting the airwaves, recorded right at South Town Studio. On this week’s episode we have a special guest and that is Vincent-Tennell– host of the public access show “The Vincent-Tennell Show.” Vincent-Tennell recently featured some representatives for Dumb Records (above) on his show, which will air later in January. We get the chance to talk to Vincent about his show among plenty of other things.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. You can tune in on 88.3 WQNA fm or online during that time at wqna.org. Also be sure to check out our radio page where we have built up an archive of most of our past episodes.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Soul Resides, Noesis, The Incorporated

Did you know there is a show happening at Black Sheep tonight? This show is sure to be very metal. This is also the first show being put on by As It Is Productions at Black Sheep, a new DIY booking group. This show will feature the Staunton, Illinois progressive metal act, Soul Resides. You can stream some of Soul Resides’s music below. We have another metalcore band on the show from Central Illinois called Noesis. And things will open up for now with a newer band from the area called The Incorporated.

January 2nd at Black Sheep: Moonassi, Family Hearse, Knives

This looks like it will be the very first show of 2015 inside of Black Sheep. With Black Sheep turning ten years old and the year of the sheep, this is definitely going to be a good year. This show is happening on Friday, January 2nd. It features the touring screamo/scramz band Moonassi from Austin, Texas. You can stream some of their music below. Also coming from Austin, Texas and on tour with Moonassi is a band called Family Hearse. They play experimental hip hop influenced music. Opening things up right now we have the newer Springfield screamo group featuring members of Our Lady called Knives. Catch their set because it will be a great time.

Lincoln’s Legends Podcast: Aaron Uncanny (Torch Tuesday) and Sonny Deadwood

The Lincoln’s Legends Podcast is a new and very neat podcast that focuses on interviewing artists and professionals that help make Springfield, Illinois a melting pop of creativity. The podcast has been going for a few months now, and Brian Galecki of Dumb Records was lucky enough to be one of the very first interviews. Check that one out right here.

More recently a couple of other music-related interviews went up on the Lincoln’s Legends Podcast. The first of those is Aaron Uncanny Phillips, who is involved with Torch Tuesdays at Bar None and also a number of recent hip hop shows at Black Sheep. Aaron talks about his good experiences with Black Sheep in the interview. Check out that interview right here. The second interview is with local solo musician Sonny Deadwood. Looming: “Growth” (From Plan-It-X Compilation)

Bloomington, Indiana based record label Plan-It-X Records have begun streaming some songs from their upcoming compilation called It Came From Plan-It-X 2014. The compilation includes a brand new song from Springfield’s own Looming as the very first track, and the song was included in a batch of songs from the compilation that went up for streaming this past weekend. The Looming song is called “Growth” and you can listen to it on the player below.

The projected release date for the full compilation is March 10th, 2015. You can pre-order the full album right here, or pre-order the download for just $1 right here. Looming currently do not have any shows lined up as they working on recording for a new full length.

Videos: Hospital Job at Fest

Today we have special footage of Springfield pop punk band Hospital Job playing at The Fest in Gainesville, Florida earlier this fall. This is not a Springfield show video but since The Fest is a very big and notable punk festival we thought we would share the video with you. Check out the video below. The video is of the band playing the title track off of their new LP Believer. You can vote for Hospital Job’s album on our Best of Springfield 2014 poll along with a number of other Springfield releases right here.

Hospital Job will be playing next at Black Sheep on February the 6th along with Drilling For Blasting, Closed Mouths, and Bullnettle.

Videos: The Birth Of Diaper Rash

It looks like we have captured some rare footage of the birth of a brand new Springfield punk band called Diaper Rash from this past weekend. We have a video of the band’s first ever performance at Black Sheep to share with you all today. This video starts out with a performance by the legendary Nighthawk, and then strange things begin to happen. You’ll have to see what happens next.

Diaper Rash will be playing in Springfield next at Donnie’s Homespun on Friday, December 26th. The band also just released a cassette containing their first three demos, which you can stream right here. Check out the Diaper Rash video below:
