It’s another week at Southtown record store Dumb Records, and there are a few new arrivals that might be worth taking a look at. Dumb Records would like to thank all of you who braved the snow this past weekend to come out to the big “Back To School Sale.” The sale was successful in getting many of you ready for the big school year coming up. April 19th at Black Sheep: The Convalescence, Kharybdis, Nethersphere, Animus, Noesis

10009779_1562781947298484_1125896594088453455_nHopefully all of you fans of metal are ready for an incredible show at Black Sheep because on Sunday, April 19th we have the show for you. For this show we have the return of the Toledo, Ohio metalcore band The Convalescence. The Convalescence last came through and played Black Sheep in May of last year. You can check out their newest music video for their song “The Human Disease” on the player below. This show will also feature the big return of local metal band, Kharybdis who hasn’t played a show here since last spring. We also have a newer Central Illinois metal band called Nethersphere, which features members of DinyourA. Also playing is the Taylorville, IL metal band Animus. Then for the first act we have the progressive metal band from Central Illinois, Noesis.

New Band Pages: Southern Roots

Did you hear there is a new band in town, and they are called Southern Roots? Once again we have another new band page for another new band in town, and this time it is the three-piece hardcore/metal band, Southern Roots. You can check out their new page right here where you can read up more on the band (they do not have any recorded music yet). Southern Roots will be playing their first show at Black Sheep this Friday, February 27th along with Mystery Gift, Say Something, WARRS, and Milchjunge.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Asthma, Cruelster, Safety Word, Sgt. Karate

Tonight at Black Sheep we have the punkest of shows, coming at you fast on a Monday night. Come out and slam all of your Monday night blues away. Tonight we have the Springfield hardcore band that knows how to rock, Asthma. We also have the return of Cruelster– a band that played day 1 of Dumb Fest 2 back in June. You can stream some of Cruelster’s music on the player below. We also have the band Safety Word coming from Chicago, featuring members of Lord Snow and Sick Sad World. Opening things up is a special performance by the one-man black metal project that came out of our band lotto show back in August called “Sargent Karate.”

Our Lady Featured On Little Elephant

Looks like while they were out on tour Our Lady got the opportunity to be featured on the live recording project called Little Elephant. Little Elephant features different bands from all over, recorded in a living room in Toledo, Ohio. The band recorded a live session with Little Elephant on their most recent tour out east with the No Sleep Records band Aviator.

Bands For Springfield Pridefest Announced For May 16th

Springfield Pridefest will be taking place this year on Saturday, May 16th in downtown Springfield at the intersection of 5th and Capital. The festival has recently announced a group of bands that will be performing, which includes Looming. Check out the full list of bands recently announced below:

Dumb Records Selling Tickets To The Tossers At Donnie’s Homespun February 27th

Did you know that on this upcoming Friday, February 27th Donnie’s Homespun will be hosting a show featuring The Tossers from Chicago? The Tossers are a six-piece Celtic punk band. You can check out some of their music on the Youtube video embedded below.

Dumb Records is currently selling tickets to this show during regular store hours. You can purchase a ticket at Dumb Records for $10 (buying them at the door the day of the show is $12-15). Also playing the show are bands Continental and New Madrid. The show will start at 8:00 pm, and is ages 18 and up, with a $3 surcharge for ages 18-21. April 3rd at Black Sheep: Ghost Mice, Bad Banshee, Pat The Bunny, SAP

On Friday, April 3rd we have a nice show coming up for all of you folk punk fans, ska fans, or fans of anything. Ghost Mice from Bloomington, Indiana will be returning to Black Sheep for this show. Stream some of Ghost Mice’s music below. You might remember Ghost Mice came through about one year ago with Bernay’s Propaganda from Macedonia. This time the band is coming through with Pat The Bunny– solo musician also known for playing in the band Ramshackle Glory, which played at Black Sheep back in the summer of 2012. Also playing this show is your favorite ska-punk-formal band Bad Banshee. And opening things up is the three piece grunge/punk band SAP.

Brandon Carnes Featured On Lincoln’s Legends Podcast

The new Springfield podcast called Lincoln’s Legends Podcast has been very active recently, featuring interviews with new people doing interesting things every week. Recently the podcast had Brandon Carnes of South Town Studio, Looming, etc. in as a featured guest on the show.

The interview was released in two parts- one as a regular interview on the Lincoln’s Legends Podcast, which can be found right here. The second part of the interview was on our very own Black Sheep Radio Show as episode #109. You can download that episode right here. The interview goes very in depth with Brandon’s history in Springfield music, and in the Black Sheep Radio Show Brandon talks to Lincoln’s Legends host Jeremie Bailey about his new podcast. Tonight at Black Sheep: The Timmys, The Haddonfields, Estates, The Rackatees, Diaper Rash

Tonight at Black Sheep we have a five-band mixed genre type show that is sure to be a wild one. Tonight features Springfield long running punk rock band The Timmys. The show also features The Haddonfields from St. Louis, who are no strangers to playing at Black Sheep. You can check out some of The Haddonfields’s music streaming below. Tonight will also feature the return of Milwaukee’s Estates, who played at Black Sheep this past summer after releasing a split 7″ with Springfield band Our Lady. We also have the return of The Rackatees from Iowa, who last played at Black Sheep in the fall of 2013. Opening things up is the wild and fierce baby band- Diaper Rash. Diaper Rash released Demo 4: Eat, Shit, And Cry online yesterday.
