Here at Black Sheep we’ve had poetry readings at our more recent open mics and art shows. Next month we will be hosting the “Southtown Poetry Slam” which will feature plenty of local poetry readings. From 7:00-8:00 there will be an open mic for poetry readings. Then from 8:00 – 9:00 the stage will be taken by some special guests who will be reading poetry. Those special guests are Scott Faingold (of the band Epsom) and also Aubrey Puyear of Honey/Suck. After that at 9:00 there will be a slam competition that you will not want to miss!

The Southtown Poetry Slam begins at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Benefits from this show will be going towards the Sala Creative Association– which is just recently starting up in Springfield. Today we have a show announcement for a show happening here at Black Sheep on Saturday, September 11th. It is a five band punk show featuring a few touring acts. For this show we have Say Something– the frantic local punk band that rarely plays shows. Then from Detroit, Michigan we have the band Come Out Fighting. Stream some of their music below. Come Out Fighting last played here at Black Sheep back in January. This time around they will be on tour with a band called “The Purps,” also from Michigan. Then before them we have the Champaign hardcore punk band Fifty Year Storm. And opening things up straight from Springfield is the rowdy punk band, Panzys.

Coming up in just one week on Sunday, August 23rd we have a bit of a last minute three-band show happening at Black Sheep. This show will feature a touring band from Chicago called “Bitchin’ Reality.” You can stream some of their music on the player below. Also playing is the local instrumental project, Fel Fae. And then the third act we have is the younger rock band, Space Alpacas, which we heard might have changed their name to “Scary Crimes.”

This show will start at 7:00 pm and cost $5. There is no facebook event for this one yet, but keep an eye out! In the meantime check our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep for the remainder of the summer and this fall.

Today we have a show announcement for a very stacked show for all fans of noise, and hardcore punk. This show is happening on Friday, August 28th. This show will feature 6 acts- half of them solo noise projects and half of them full bands. Lined up we have the hardcore band King Worm which will sure to be louder than ever. Then we have Chamapign/Urbana stoner metal group Earth Witch coming back and playing Black Sheep for the first time since Dumb Fest #1 in 2013. You can stream a new Earth Witch track on the player below. One of the noise acts performing is Jeremiah Fisher from Chicago, who played Springfield last as part of Dumb Fest 2 last year. Before that is the hardcore/screamo group WARRS. We also have a newer Springfield based project called Emasculate Regression. Then to top it off, the sixth act we have is the noisey ambient project called Borealis.
