It’s already been a couple of weeks since we hosted the third ever Black Sheep band lotto show- the show where volunteers willingly dropped their names into a box to be drawn into random groups that had two months to form a band for one show. Today we are bringing you a video of the whole entire show, including all five bands performances and ending on the streets of Southtown with Band Lotto Band #4.

Thanks to Gordon of Macomb Events for capturing the full video for us. You can see many more of Gordon’s videos (much of which are at Black Sheep) on his channel right here. Thanks Gordon!

Help Us Launch Southtown Sound Recording Studio

Screen Shot 2016-11-30 at 1.20.32 PM.png

Today here at blacksheepspringfield.com we are bringing you big news of something new coming to the neighborhood. As you may know, Brandon Carnes (Looming, Diaper Rash) ran South Town Studio from late 2013 up until April of this past year. During that time Brandon recorded countless Springfield bands, many punk demos, and also hosted a good number of shows up in the studio space. Since Brandon moved to Pittsburg in April Southtown has lacked a place for bands to record, which was a vital piece of the Southtown package for all of 2014 and 2015.

Now a group consisting of B.J. Pearce, Mario Cannamela, and Kyle Noonan are teaming up to launch Southtown Sound – a new and improved studio to go in the same space that once was South Town Studio behind Black Sheep and Dumb Records. Today they are launching a brand new kickstarter campaign for the new studio. Check that out right here.

The campaign’s goal is to raise $8,000 to go towards new renovations, initial running costs for the first few months, and studio equipment. Check out a very detailed list and breakdown of money to be raised here on the kickstarter page. For those of you who remember or helped us with Project Southtown’s successful campaign in 2015- the remainder of the money raised from Project Southtown will be going towards this new major project in benefiting our neighborhood.

Renovations on the space have already begun, and the kickstarter campaign will be going from now until early January. You can expect us to keep you up to date on progress of the new Studio, which is projected to be in full effect in early 2017. We believe having access to an affordable recording studio for bands in our area is very essential, and is also key in Southtown continuing to be an epicenter for creativity and arts in Springfield. With this new studio Kyle, Mario, and B.J. will be expanding on what Brandon started with South Town Studio to create something even more vital to our community.

Tonight in Downtown Springfield: Christmas Parade with Dumb Records Elephant ((Hopefully)) :-O

elephantparade

No shows happening at Black Sheep tonight, but there is the Springfield Jaycees Christmas Parade happening downtown tonight starting right at 7:30 pm. Dumb Records is supposed to be taking our new big green elephant in the parade with our hero Nighthawk playing the guitar inside the float. We may or may not be looking for a backup van or truck to pull our beloved elephant right now. Do you know of any good leads on this? Will we be able to get it together in time for the parade tonight? Who knows!

If for whatever reason we don’t pull off being able to take the elephant, we will be hanging out at Cafe Andiamo downtown watching the parade and drinking hot chocolate. They will be open for the parade from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. Either way, see you downtown tonight!

We also have a touring band on the bill and that is “Joyboy” from Birmingham. You can stream some of their music on the player below. Up before them is the new Central Illinois based hardcore band called “BITE” probably playing a very loud, fast, and short set. Opening things up this time around we have local band GRINN bringing the loud and angry smiles.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this winter.
