Today we bring you a second music video released in recent times by “Forest Saints” (3rd video overall) -the solo recording project of Mark Schwartz based right here in Springfield. The video (which you can find below) is for the song “Sun/Hand” which comes off of Mark’s fourth album under Forest Saints, Bitter Pill. The other music video was for the song “Stock in Misery” off of the same album, and you can find that right here.

Mark also performs in the freeform jazz band End Times Trio along with Frank Trompeter and Richard Gilman-Opalsky who just gave a talk at Black Sheep this past weekend. There are not plans for any Forest Saints live shows, but we have been told that there is a fifth album for the project in the works! Check out all of Forest Saint’s recorded music on their bandcamp page right here. Also check out our vids/pics page for a bigger collection of Springfield music videos shot over the years.

15994665_834731077041_5354269129568510092_o.jpg

Looks like The Radon Lounge are going to be having their next show very soon – one week from today on Sunday, February 5th. We also just announced our next show happening at Black Sheep also on that very same night unfortunately, so you will have to choose between shows or try to show-hop to both. This show over at The Radon Lounge features Nashville touring artist Von Strantz, who is no stranger to the lounge. Check out some of her music streaming on the player below. Also on this show is the big time hippy-punk band Good Companions featuring Danny Kerwin. We love the Good Companions. Before that is one of the stars off of the hit Springfield web series “The Studio Show” – Arlin Peebles performing solo. Before that The Radon Lounge has Chicago singer/songwriter David Rokos on board to perform. Looks like things will be opening up with some baked goods by Emma Wilson.

This show will start over at the Radon Lounge at 7:00 pm for just $5. (Same time and cost as the Black Sheep show). Check out a facbook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows coming up in town outside of Black Sheep (we are working on it).

Heptanes: “Demon Stratus”

14329878_1060243250749844_967805641283638472_n.jpg

We might be a little late to the game on this one, but new Springfield project “Heptanes” put out their debut release online late last year it looks like. You can check out the band’s six-song release Demon Stratus on the player embedded below. Heptanes a new Springfield duo featuring Scott Faingold (Epsom) and Jason Perry (Seething Coast). The band is an interesting take on poetry written by Joseph Kallinger while in prison. The band’s description from facebook:

Heptanes dare to answer the never-posed musical question: What if notorious murdering psychopath Joseph “The Shoemaker” Kallinger had submitted his awful prison poetry to one of those “We’ll Turn Your Poem Into A Song!” ads that used to run in the back of magazines?

Hetanes do not have any shows lined up as of right now as far as we can see! Be on the lookout for shows in the future.

February 5th at Black Sheep: Dumb Vision, Lincoln’s Tomb, Stereo Static, Weeping Iniquity, Can Ka No Rey

We also have the grunge-y alternative rock group Stereo Static taking the big stage. Before that there are a couple of noise projects – we have the local noise/industrial project Weeping Iniquity and also a newer noise project from Champaign-Urbana called Can-Ka’ No Rey.

Southtown Sound Studio Update!

16179538_1209178682523427_5277259347302820181_o.jpg

After finishing their kickstarter champaign with an amount surpassing their original goal at the beginning of this month, Southtown Sound– the new recording studio coming soon to Southtown has been hard at work making magic happen in their new space. Last night the new studio gave an update along with some photos on how the studio is coming along. From the update:

If everything goes according to plan, we will hopefully have everything moved in at the end of February – early March. We will be spending a week or so troubleshooting our system and gear and making sure everything is running smoothly.
Once we get closer and we have a more concrete opening date, we will start reaching out to Kickstarter artists to get you booked and in the studio!
We are also looking to have a “studio warming” or christening of sorts when we open the doors, so be on the lookout for that and come on by and check out the space!
Thank you all so much for your patience and support throughout this project. We are so thrilled to see the excitement surrounding this project and we have a lot of great plans in store and cannot wait to start working with you all.

You can follow along more of Southtown Sound’s progress with the new studio here on their facebook page. We will also be sure to continue to give out updates on their progress as well, and also give updates on the first recording projects they take on as soon as the studio space is complete.

From the event description:

A night of subversive thinking with UIS Professor and political philosopher, Richard Gilman-Opalsky — focused on the publication of his new book, “Specters of Revolt.” We will discuss recent social upheavals and the necessity of radical politics today…now more than ever! The event opens with local noise resistance from the band Undone, followed by a book presentation and conversation with Gilman-Opalsky.

All of that begins tonight at 6:00 pm, and the event is free. Check out a facebook event for that right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.
