This summer brings the second year for Peoria hardcore music festival Discontent Fest happening on Saturday and Sunday July 22nd and 23rd. We count a total of 40 bands playing the fest as listed on the flier above, with 20 bands on each day. The lineup this year features a good handful of bands all familiar to Black Sheep and also Dumb Fest – including Falter, Stye, P.E.A.R.L., 86 Gemini, Pryss, and Dream Probe.

A breakedown of the full lineup along with links to listen to each band can be found right here on the Discontent Fest facebook page. Both days will be happening at The Rail II in Peoria, which is all ages as far as we can tell. Ticket info and pricing has not yet been released.

As we said yesterday, we are now at the beginning of a streak of 5 shows in a total of 6 days at Black Sheep / Dumb Records. Today is the only day out of all of those there isn’t a show, and this one on Monday, July 10th is going to be the last of the streak. For this show looks like we got ourselves the touring cowboy punk band from Austin, Texas – “Leche” on board. Stream some of their music on the player below. Pretend I’m Not There – local solo ambient act – is what’s going to be closing out the night. We should also mention that Leche the band is touring with another lo-fi solo act from Austin who will also be playing the show. That is “Grady Drugg” at the bottom of that there flier. And what do you know this show is bringing out a rare appearance by the local punk band Say Something, first time we have seen them in a minute.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Black Sheep Fest 1 Month Away, T Shirt Design Contest

shirtshirt.jpg

We are now exactly one month away from Black Sheep Fest 2017 – the tenth annual Black Sheep Fest we have put on since the first one in 2008. You can check out that lineup of 15 acts all local to Springfield right here – we actually did have one recent addition of one back outside of Springfield, and that is the band Ghoul Jr. featuring Veronica Mullen who was our official Dumb Fe5t photographer this year.

Today we are announcing that once again will be holding a design contest for the next Black Sheep Fest shirt design! This is open to anyone who wishes to participate! If you would like to come up with a design or drawing to have printed on shirts for this year’s fest – just make sure it says “Black Sheep Fest”, and the year 2017 or “#10” on it somewhere! Designs can be submitted to our email blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com. You have between now and July 20th to submit your designs! Once the deadline hits we will vote for a winning design here on our site.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Stereo Static, Acceptable Losses, Searching For Nostalgia, Stick People, Matt LaMarca

We hope everyone had a great fourth of the month yesterday, now it’s time for the fifth of July so we are getting into serious business. Starting now we’ve got five shows in the next six days lined up in Southtown. Tonight we have two touring acts and a few locals. At the top of the bill is the local rock band Stereo Static. The main touring act on this one is pop punk band Acceptable Losses from Albuquerque, New Mexico. When was the last time we had a band from New Mexico play at Black Sheep? Also on tour from a different Springfield somewhere in Missouri is the band “Searching for Nostalgia” (what kind of band name is that)? Opening things up we have the rock grunge Taylorville act Stick People, and also a solo performance by the charming Matt LaMarca. Nice.

This show will start right at 7:30 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to see what else is coming up this summer at Black Sheep.

In addition to those two touring acts, we also have local performer Nefarious Cloud on the bill. Nefarious is also playing Black Sheep Fest this year on August 5th. Last but not least we have DJ Tariq playing some mixes throughout the duration of the show. Tariq actually put together the flier for the show!

Videos: Backwards Day at Black Sheep 7-1-17

backwards.jpg

We do have some video footage of the incredible two reunion sets that took place at Black Sheep this past weekend for any of you who were as silly enough as to miss out on the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Food & Money or Backwards Day. Today we have a snippet of Backwards Day performing one of their early hit tunes “Revolutionary” at Black Sheep this past Saturday during the show. You can check out that video below.

Expect a video of Food & Money and also some photos of the show to turn up at some point soon. You can also probably expect a full video of all four sets from that night to become available on Gordon Chang’s Macomb Events youtube channel later on. Also check out our vids/pics page for a list of videos taken over the years at Black Sheep.

New Band Pages: Spell Breaker

19243322_1731182683840924_8321481442650222722_o

Welcome to a new week, this morning we are bringing you a fresh new band page for the new-ish local band Spell Breaker. (That’s two words there, not “Spellbreaker”). Spell Breaker formed earlier this year with members of former Springfield bands SAP and Lincoln’s Tomb. You can check out their new band page to find out more about the band right here. Spell Breaker just played at Black Sheep two nights ago at the big Food & Money and Backwards Day reunion show. Their next performance lined up is for Black Sheep Fest 2017, which is just a little over one month away. They also have no music recorded right now, but you can expect some to be coming very soon.

Check out any of our 60+ current band pages right here. Do you play in a Springfield band or are a local musician who has not gotten a page set up with us yet? Send us an email to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up!
