bxs13years_2

Tonight’s the night! Come out and help us celebrate a whole 13 years of Black Sheep being open as an all ages space in Springfield! We are now a teenager! Tonight is also going to be the drawing for Black Sheep Band Lotto 2018! Come out and experience this magic! At the top of the bill we have Jacksonville-based psychedelic rock band “The Dixie Narcos” who’s album we streamed on our site yesterday. We also have out of town friends Reaver from Alton, IL, who’s music you can find streaming on the player below. Up before that is a new Springfield punk project (this one you can mosh to, yes) called Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children. Opening things up we have two rare solo sets – one from Brandon Carnes and another from Jameson Bullock.

This show tonight starts (on time) at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Names for Black Sheep Band Lotto will also be drawn at the end of the night so be sure to stick around for that! Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Tonight! We have a Monday night show going on that will be short and sweet to kick off your work (or school) week. We just have three acts lined up, and all are great. This show features touring band from Hattiesburg, Mississippi (probably featuring members of some Hattiesburg bands that have stopped through before) – Stellatone. The band plays some “interstellar garage rock” which you can check out for yourself on the player embedded below. Also on this show is a new Springfield punk band “Final Order” which has played a couple of shows thus far. Opening things up is a brand new new Springfield project called Schedule One, we we have been told brings in some great noisy psychadelic madness.

This show will go quick! It starts at 7:00 pm and is just $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Videos: Graveswitcher & MAC at Black Sheep Fest 2018

Look-ee here, today we are bringing you a couple of videos of songs we took from Black Sheep Fest 2018, which happened right around one month ago on August 11th. These two videos are snippets of sets of Graveswitcher and MAC and you can find them embedded below. The MAC song is “Authority” which the band released the official music video and recording for the song last week. Then the Graveswitcher video is of them performing their song “The Toob” and is very movement-heavy, just how some of you like it. (Slam-Cam 2018).

Check out our vids/pics page on our site for a long list of other videos taken over the years at Black Sheep. Also Gordon Chang is an incredible man and took videos of the full sets of nearly every Black Sheep Fest performance, which you can find on his channel right here.

Black Sheep Band Lotto 2018

IMG_0827.jpg

It’s that time of year again. The Black Sheep Band Lotto Box is now OUT and alive inside Dumb Records from now until a week from now on Saturday, September 15th when names are drawn.

What is Black Sheep Band Lotto? This will be the fifth year we have held such an event. Willing participants for the next week put their own names into this box. Names are drawn in one week in groups of fours and fives. It is then the task of these groups to get together and form one band to perform one show two months from when the names are drawn. The Band Lotto Show will be held this year on Friday, November 16th.

*Note about the band lotto: putting your name into this box can be a serious commitment – at the very least it means getting together with a group of people at least once a week to write songs and play instruments. Do not put your name in this box if you are not prepared to do that. If you do not know how to play an instrument this means taking on a challenging task of practicing every day! Do NOT put anyone else’s name inside the Band Lotto Box, you will ruin it for everybody!!!

Names are drawn a week from today at the Black Sheep 13 Year Anniversary Show. Names will be drawn after the last band is done playing.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Better Friend, Prowess, Oversleeping, Heck

It’s one rainy weekend going on in Springfield, and we’ve got this show lined up! Slap on your boots, grab your umbrellas, and come out to this gig. Tonight we’ve got Lincoln, Nebraska post-hardcore band Better Friend. Let them be your better friend and listen to their music on the player embedded below. We’ve also got Springfield punk band Prowess on board, who also just played here last weekend. The other out-of-towner on the bill is Oversleeping from the St. Louis area. Opening things up may or may not be Hannah Heck… there might be a rumor that she is unable to play tonight and there might be a replacement artist opening things up.

All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7! Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Starter Jackets: “Decisions”

a4208172421_10.jpg

There is a lot of new Springfield music that has been coming out that we have been trying to keep up with! Here’s a brand new full length album that came out last month  by Springfield pop punk group Starter Jackets. The album is called Decisions and you can find it streaming on the player below. The album was recorded right here in Springfield by Luke McNeil of Capital City Recordings. It is being released on Rad Girlfriend Records based out of Ohio. Head over to the band’s bandcamp page to pay to download the songs.

Starter Jackets will be performing a week from tonight at Bar None downtown along with Bottom Bracket and Evan Mitchell One Man Band. We hear that this might be the physical release show of their album in some form?? You’ll have to stop by the show tonight to find out! (Ages 21+).

We still have a lot of catching up to do, but we are adding this one to the list of Springfield releases for 2018 on our album archive page!
