What’s up! Are you ready to hear what we have in store at Black Sheep next weekend? We are mixing things up and have this big electronic / dubstep show going on believe it or not. This is happening this upcoming Saturday, November 10th. Maybe it’s time for you to check out something truly new going on in the Springfield live music scene. Why not? This show features long running Springfield electronic project KaBass. We also have “Mario” aka “Funky House”? Who is also based right here in Springfield. Another group on this bill is “Kid Nightmare” coming from St. Louis. You can check out a 25 minute long piece by Kid Nightmare on the player below. The last group on the bill is “Ghost” – which apparently is some hip hop from Peoria! All sorts of great things going on!

This show starts at 7:00 pm typical show time and is just $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else we’ve got coming up at Black Sheep for the rest of this year.

Boon: “Social Anxylophone”

We are a little late on this one, but we figured a lot of you probably still don’t know about this release that came out here in Springfield earlier this summer – so here is a post for it! Local group “boon” – may be going by a different name “Juner Boon” for this release – released a new seven-track group of songs called Social Anxylophone at the beginning of August. Check out those songs streaming on the player below. This makes the band’s fourth release following “1st Street” last year and since they started in 2011.

Boon the band is very mysterious – they have not played any shows since Downhome Music Festival back in August and they do not have anything lined up as far as we can tell. We’ve added this release to our Springfield album archive – go check that page out!

Tonight at CFP: Frail Body, Crowning, Capitol Offense, Final Order, Graveswitcher

Hi, here we are on this dreary Sunday continuing our crazy six-day streak full of shows. Tonight there is nothing going on at Black Sheep – but there is a show going on at a house in town called the CFP (Centucky Fried Peanut) house. This one is for the touring act Frail Body from Rockford, Illinois up north. Cool! Also on this show is hardcore band Final Order from right here home grown and raised. Also homegrown hardcore and raised is Graveswitcher who just played here last night. Other than that, there’s Capitol Offense (hardcore heavy band) from Decatur. And opening things up it looks like… Crowning (no, actually they probably wouldn’t be opening up), from Chicago.

That is your show. Things start at 7:00 pm over there at The CFP, sorry we can’t tell you where the house is on there. $5 for the touring bands. Find a facebook event for that one right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows going on outside of Black Sheep (we are working on).

MAC: “No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs”

Today we are bringing you a stream of the hot new four-track EP from Springfield punk rock group “MAC“. The EP is called No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs. Why is their EP called that? Here is a description from the band’s facebook:

These were signs that hung on businesses windows in London the the 60s, 70s and the early 80s. Anti Irish discrimination was always part of the Irish/British history, it dates back to over 800 years ago. From the ’60s all the way through to the ’90s was a period in Irish history known as “The Troubles”. During this time it became increasingly hard for Irish people to live in the UK. The British government pushed their anti Irish scare because of the actions of the IRA and Irish were branded as drunks and terrorists. Being Irish myself, I have felt this discrimination in England. As a small child, I was beaten in my own backgarden by a random person, for no other reason only because I was Irish. Til this day there is still many who hold this view. I dont think I’ve been to the UK a single time without being called a Paddy Bastard.
As you can see on these posters it wasn’t any different for anyone else, be it black or brown.

Stream the full EP on the player below, also head on over to MAC’s bandcamp page to purchase the download. MAC do not have any shows currently lined up that we know of – they did just play the Black Sheep Halloween show this past week.

We are currently building up everything that has been released in Springfield on our Springfield Album Archive Page!

Have you ever asked why we don’t have more comedy shows at Black Sheep? Do you find yourself wishing there were more comedy shows in your life? Well, you’re in luck – this upcoming Tuesday, November 6th we have a comedy show lined up. Most of the comedy shows we have attempted in the past have been mixed with musical acts, this one is purely laughs. We have two touring comedians coming for this one – Ryan Shores and Dan Bublitz. We have one local comedian opener and that is Larry Smith. We don’t have any music streaming on the player below for this one, because these guys are all comedians! You can read a nice background description on each one on our facebook event!

This show is starting at 7:30 pm and admission is $5. We will get the chairs out. Again, a facebook event is right here. Also check out our shows page for a good look at what is coming up at Black Sheep the rest of this year.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Livin’ Thing, Knife Rider, Thwompsax, Evan Mitchell

finemario

Continuing this crazy streak of shows with this punk show happening tonight! It’s an all around good show with two great out of town acts. At the top of the bill is Lexington Kentucky’s very own Knife Rider. We have yet another set by Springfield rock and roll band Livin’ Thing. The other touring act on the bill is a solo project called “Thwompsax” from all the way in California put together by a member of former Dumb Fest bands Pookie & The Poodlez and Nobunny. Stream that Thwompsax EP on the player below. Opening things up is Evan Mitchell– the one man band, who is celebrating ten full years of performing as a one man band.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and costs $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else we’ve got coming up at Black Sheep.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Rockford, Space Dingus, Bottom Bracket, Secteca, Kenyon DeShasier

rockfordflier

Tonight! We’ve got a packed weekend of shows starting with this one tonight. This one is the first being set up by local group Rockford, we are so proud of them. Good job to those boys from Springfield High School. They will be performing of course. Also is an indie rock group from Springfield, Missouri called “Space Dingus“. You can stream their music on the player below. Also on this show is heavy hitting Springfield emo group Bottom Bracket. And Secteca? Who is Secteca? Aparently a new local band called Secteca that we don’t know about! Opening things up is a solo performance by Kenyon DeShasier.

This starts at 7:00 pm this Friday and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future – it’s really updated this time!!

November 5th (Monday) at Black Sheep: Alchemist Review Presents Open Mic Night

43879390_1841331902587620_8647441021522673664_o.jpg

What’s this? In the string of shows we are currently in (it is looking like six shows in a seven day time period including one show at the CFP, the one off-night in that streak with no shows is tonight)- on Monday, November 5th we have an Open Mic Night happening at Black Sheep. This one is not in fact your typical open mic night that we usually hold at Black Sheep or Dumb – this one is being organized by UIS group The Alchemist Review. We welcome any UIS or LLCC groups organizing events in our space! How great! This open mic is being formatted a little bit differently – time slots are only five minutes and it looks like they are going rapid fire from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and the group welcomes poets, song writers, short skits, and more. We have a feeling time slots might even all be filled up, but you can email alchemistreview@gmail.com to inquire more.

This starts at Black Sheep this upcoming Monday at 7:00 pm. We think it’s free? Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up in the near future.

Black Sheep Halloween Show Tonight: MAC, Graveswitcher, Glower, Brute Force, Foam Fangers

bxshalloween_finalweb

It’s Halloween, and if you don’t have anything planned for tonight and looking for something ghoulish to do – look no further than this show that we have going on. Rumor has it that the Chili Bowl Mullet man will be there (first the mayor, and now this???). This one features a stacked lineup of bands from the area. Starting from the top of that list… we have MAC – doing a set of original material this time around. We also have hardcore band Graveswitcher (very Halloween-themed name). Right in the middle we have a newer St. Louis band called Brute Force, which you can find streaming on the player embedded below. Before them is Glower– three piece grunge/indie band featuring a new lineup. And opening things up is the wild & rowdy punk band Foam Fangers.

This starts at 7:00 pm, costumes are of course very much encouraged. Admission is $5. Find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep the rest of this year.
