THE SKATALITES (Jamaican Ska, Est. 1964) Playing Free Outdoor Concert June 6th in Downtown Springfield

MYSKA.png

We have been holding off BIG TIME in announcing something incredibly exciting that is coming to downtown Springfield as part of the Levitt AMP Springfield concert series that we as Dumb Records had a hand in, but we can no longer hold off as this is something that is happening nearly one month from now. Legendary ska group from Jamaica, THE SKATALITES will be performing FOR FREE on or near the Y-block in downtown Springfield on Thursday, June 6th as a part of the Levitt AMP Concert Series. The Skatalites are a group that has been around playing music in some or another since over 55 years ago. They will be performing here in Springfield as a ten piece band. Stream their first ever album from 1967 on the player below.

The concert is kicking off on the lawn (or nearby) at 6:00 pm with one opening act “TaQsem.” It is free. For those of you unfamiliar on where the Y-block, it is visible right through the alley right next to us (very close to Dumb Records). Find a facebook event for this one right here. This concert is supposed to be one in a ten part series being presented by Levitt AMP Springfield and the Springfield Area Arts Council. We’ll be sure to let you know when all of those concerts are announced, you can also follow their facebook page for updates right here.

Friday at Anvil & Forge: Tiny Desk Concert Series With Jeff Williams, Kate Laine, Dexter, The Deep Hollow + More

tinydeskgraphic.jpg

Hey it’s the first of May and we hear we are also in the middle of Public Radio Week going on here in town! There’s been some buzz surrounding a show happening on the last day of this “Public Radio Week” being put together by NPR Illinois 91.9 UIS… looks like we have ourselves a few performances lined up on the Old State Capitol Lawn this upcoming Friday, May 3rd at 7:00 pm. (The flier above says 5th and Washington, and their facebook event says 6th and Washington… we are going to assume this is taking place somewhere out on the lawn in between those two streets). *UPDATE: This is actually now happening at Anvil & Forge at 619 E Washington Street. Wow! For this event  they have a performance by Jeff Williams of NIL8 lined up, also Springfield folk/Americana act The Deep Hollow will be performing. Also Kate Laine (Kate the Band(?)), and Looming (as a two piece?), Dexter Anodyne, and more? Wow!

From what we gather there are actually pre-sale tickets for this one, which are $10 and can be found on the NPR site right here. Check out a facebook event for all of that right here. We are going to go ahead and list this one on our Springfield shows page and try to keep more up to date on shows going on in town outside of our own space!

Tonight at Bread Stretchers: Science Man, Dendrons, Schedule One, Evan Mitchell

SCIENCEMAN_webfinalithink2

Good morning everyone on this beautiful day! We were a little late on opening our store up just now admittedly probably because Marbin rocked / jazz fushion’d so hard in here least night that we’ve been trying to recoup. We better get back on track quick because we’ve got another one lined up at Bread Stretchers tonight featuring two touring acts this time around!! One coming from upstate New York – “Science Man” which features members of Dumb Fest 6 band Radiation Risks. Also on tour (but not touring together) is a newer group from Chicago called Dendrons. They just have one song up online, which you can find streaming on the player below. We are lucky to have support from the psychedelic noise project “Schedule One” and also the one man band “Lord Mitchell“, both of which will be playing at Bread Stretchers Gourmet Sub Shop for the first time in their entire lives.

This show starts at 7:00 pm tonight and admission this time is $6. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Bread Stretchers in the near future.

May 17th at Bread Stretchers: Epsom, Starter Jackets, Kenyon DeShasier

epsomstretch.jpg

May is starting to shape up to be a pretty good month for shows lined up at recently rejuvenated Springfield all ages venue Bread Stretchers! There’s a nice three band local show happening there on Friday, May 17th for us to fill you in on today! For this one we have the return of Epsom – the weirdo rock group featuring a number of Springfield scene veterans that have been rocking it for a good number of years. They are back for the first time this year with a brand new lineup. Starter Jackets is another local group that we don’t see too often of. They say they are playing their only local gig of the year for this one?? We don’t know if we believe that, but either way let’s not miss out on this rare Starter Jackets show. The first act on the bill is full band Kenyon DeShasier, the local pop / indie song writing machine.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Bread Stretchers shows page on our site to see everything coming up at the space! Good luck!

Tonight at Bread Stretchers: Marbin, Ben Delaurentis

0014062018_10

Tonight we’re not exactly sure what we are in for – it might be a big one over at the recently reunited legendary Springfield sub shop venue Bread Stretchers right next door to us. If any of you remember the jazz fushion group Marbin that came through Black Sheep last year and blew us all away, they will be returning tonight! Check out their Wikipedia page right here to learn more about the group, which features two brothers from Israel (pictured above) who are now based out of Chicago. This time they will be touring with a solo musician who is opening up the show and that is Ben Delaurentis from Virginia. Check out some of Marbin’s music on the player below.

This one starts at 7:00 pm. If you got a ticket in advance we will likely have your name on a list at the door, if not, it’s $15 admission. Find a facebook event here. Also check out our shows page for what else is coming up at Bread Stretchers which is located near 4th and Monroe or 4th and a halfth streets downtown or something like that.

Demons on Wheels: “The Well Worn Tale”

a1286240479_10.jpg

Here’s your dose of new Springfield music for the day! Today we are brining you a brand new album by local garage punk recording project “Demons on Wheels“. If you are unfamiliar, Demons on Wheels is the recording project of Mark Schwartz also of End Times Trio, Forest Saints, and Tin Ghost. Out of all of those projects as far as we know End Times Trio is the only one that performs live. Just recently Mark dropped his third album under the name Demons on Wheels, entitled The Well Worn Tale. You can check out all sixteen tracks of that streaming on the player below, or also head over to the Demons on Wheels bandcamp page to pay to download the album right here.

We’ve added this release to our Springfield album archive page where we are trying to stay up to date on everything that has been coming out so far this year! Check it out!
