It’s the second day in a row we are coming at you with a hard-hitting Springfield release, this one coming from the surf-infused punk band The Suction Cups which started up late last year. The Suction Cups feature members of Ragna Rye, Bad Banshee, and Fel Fae and this is their first release entitled Do They Walk Among Us?. You can stream the eight-track release on the player below or head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can download the whole thing for $6.66. This was also one of the last few releases recorded by Brandon Carnes up in South Town Studio before he left town and moved to Pittsburg.

The Suction Cups will be playing in town next at Dumb Fest 4-Ever for the early show on day 3 of the fest at Black Sheep, Sunday June 12th. Catch them at 11:00 am, the earliest any band has ever played at Black Sheep.

Oh boy, now it’s time for us to catch up on those show announcements and get our shows calendar back up to date. This weekend a lot of the fun is going to be happening downtown at SOHO Music Festival, but we do have a show happening at Black Sheep on Friday night (in just two days) that is going to be a benefit for a stroke victim. We have a whole six bands on this one, of all different types of genres so it is sure to be a good time had by all. Top of the bill, (going first? or last? we are not sure) is Spooky Poo, who made a recent appearance at our last open mic. Check out some of their music streaming on the player below. We have another Decatur project related to Spooky Poo called “Gadget” playing for the first time at Black Sheep. Then coming from Peoria and also familiar to the Black Sheep stage is pop punk band Terribly Happy. Then we have the Champaign/Urbana area folk punk rocker band Old Fox Road. We also have Moondead. And last but not least is Sammy And The Punk.

This show is starting promptly at 7:00 pm and admission for this is $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else we have coming up at Black Sheep this summer!

Alright, sorry we’ve been a little lacking in the news here at Black Sheep / Dumb headquarters the past few days, it’s time for us to jump back into action! What a better way to do that than with this rocket fuel-infused new six-track EP from Springfield punk band Say Something. The band’s newest release, Black Coffee Black Cats was one of the last things recorded by Brandon Carnes up in South Town Studio before he left for Pittsburg. You can stream the release on the player below or head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can download the EP at your own price.

Say Something currently do not have any shows lined up, but we will be sure to let you know when they do.

Tonight we have the Boston-based hardcore band “NIHIL” performing, and you can stream some of their music on the player below. Then we have a couple of local acts opening. We have GUSH, they angry Springfield hardcore band. Then opening things up is the first Black Sheep performance from Torture Trend- a new band featuring members of GUSH and Livin’ Thing. Screen Shot 2016-05-23 at 8.02.02 AM.png

Once again we are a little late to the game on telling you about this most recent episode of The Studio Show, but this is one we feel that most of you will truly enjoy. The Studio Show is a Springfield-based series focusing on highlighting musicians and artists making things happen. The last episode to be released was number eleven a couple of weeks ago and features Looming performing an acoustic song, as well as Springfield poet Lisa Higgs. We also think that you might enjoy the opening scene of the episode (pictured above).

Check out the new episode streaming below, and head over to The Studio Show’s youtube channel for all of the past episodes plus some interesting clips. The Studio Show is also gearing up for a season finale, which also includes a live event in their space for a limited amount of people – more info on that can be found right here.

Can we squeeze in any more show announcements happening before Dumb Fest? This one is happening before then, on Monday June 6th. It’s another Monday night metal show- this one featuring the touring band Spirit Breaker coming from Michigan. Looks like there are a whopping whole five other local bands opening the show up. First of which we have Set Fire To Salem, metalcore from Springfield. We also have Noesis, playing the metalcore from Carlinville, Illinois. Up before them is Accents from Staunton, Illinois and the surrounding areas. Then opening things up we have two bands from the area both with “eyes” in their names and that would be Through Burning Eyes, and There Is Beauty In Her Eyes.

This show will be starting promptly at 6:30 pm (doors at 6:00), and admission is $7. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up this summer.

Tonight it’s a Monday night and we have some big time Monday night metal going down at Black Sheep! This show features quite the lineup of bands including The Convalescence from Toledo, Ohio who have performed at Black Sheep a number of times now. This time around The Convalescence will be on tour with two other acts including “Hallows Die” and “I Apollo”. This Monday night metal show would not be complete without a splash of pop punk in the middle, so we have Fill In The Blank also playing the show. Before them is Central Illinois based metalcore band Through Burning Eyes. And opening things up we have Springfield metal act Set Fire To Salem.

This show will begin a little earlier at 6:00 pm. Admission is $10. You can find a facebook event for this metal gig right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Shark Week will be playing next at Black Sheep this upcoming Saturday, May 28th along with Livin’ Thing, Animals With Human Names, Sweet Bippy, and Blue Parks. You can find a facebook event on that one right here. Shark Week will also be opening day 2 of Dumb Fest 4-Ever this year on June 11th.
