Garter: “Demo”

Today we have a stream of some more brand new Springfield music this time coming from another newer punk band called Garter. Garter features members of Nighthawk, Big Storm, and Teen Freak, and their five-song demo went up online today. You can find the demo streaming below, or also head over to the Garter bandcamp page where you can download the demo for free. The release will also be available on cassette at the show at Black Sheep on Monday, being put out by Acid Kat Records based out of St. Louis.

Garter will be playing at Black Sheep this upcoming Monday along with G.L.O.S.S., Asthma, and Gush. It is looking like this will be the cassette release show for both Garter and Gush. More info on that show can be found right here.

Epsom: “Ah, Youth!”

a0511168514_10Springfield rock group Epsom have released their new LP, Ah, Youth! up for streaming online. The album was released earlier this month on vinyl LP. You can stream the whole album on the player below, or head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can pay to download the whole album or look into ordering the physical copy.

Slacker Tapehead: “Slacker Tapehead”

Today we bring you new music from Springfield solo ambient electronic project Slacker Tapehead. Slacker Tapehead is 5 tracks of improvised electronic music recorded on a Fostex X-28 multitracker by Eric Rogers of The Luhzin Defense. The result is a very spacious and experimental collection of synths, guitars, vocals and other sounds that will appeal to fans of experimental music and post-rock.

Slacker Tapehead’s debut is available for streaming and download now on Bandcamp with a cassette release to follow. No live shows are scheduled for Slacker Tapehead right now, but keep your eyes and ears peeled!

The Complaint Line: “Stick Ninja”

Last weekend marked the release of “Stick Ninja”, the long awaited debut album from Springfield, IL indie rock band The Complaint Line. The CD/digital download features 10 tracks of guitar driven rock with punk energy and big melodies. The band recently played Black Sheep on June 20th with Inner Outlines, Kickstart and Because Reasons from St Louis and their next Springfield show will be August 8th playing the Brewhaus Stage at this years Downhome Fest.

Borealis: “Nauseous Spells”

Springfield drone/ambient/noise project Borealis have put up a new release on bandcamp. The 7-minute long piece is called Nauseous Spells and it was recorded last August but just recently released for you all to hear. You can stream Nauseous Spells below or also head over to the Borealis bandcamp where you can download the track at your own price.

Borealis is the solo project of Mario Cannamela also of the bands Wir Können and Soap Scum. He will be playing his next show as Borealis this upcoming Monday, July 27th in South Town Studio. More info on that show can be found right here.

GRINN: “EP”

The new Springfield hardcore solo project called “GRINN” has released their full EP (tracks one through five) up on bandcamp. We have the full EP also streaming below. We have been told that GRINN is a new solo project of Austin Connelly also of bands Wir Können and Swamp Rat. There are no live shows scheduled for the new project, but you might be able to expect to see something in the near future. Unicorn Communications: “Classics”

Today we have a stream of some new recordings coming from a brand new noise project right here in Springfield. The new project is called “Unicorn Communications” and it is driven by Jeff Brown, who also brought us Aporia. This new project has recently released a new 4-track EP/demo online being called Classics. You can stream that below or also head over to the Unicorn Communications bandcamp for a free download. Classics was recorded with the help of Brandon Carnes of South Town Studio.

There has been no news of any upcoming live performances for Unicorn Communications, but we will be sure to be the first to let you know of any upcoming shows in town if any are scheduled!

August 14th at Black Sheep: Looming (Album Release), Park, Choir Vandals, Hidden Hospitals

On Friday, August 14th Black Sheep will be hosting the LP release show for Looming and their new album Nailbiter coming out on No Sleep Records. Get a sneak peak of a song from the new album here. This is a very exciting show for Looming, and also exciting because also taking the stage for this show at Black Sheep is Park– an older Springfield emo band that announced their reunion on our radio show a few years back. This will be Park’s first time playing Black Sheep since reuniting. Check out some of their music streaming below. In addition to those two bands this show will also feature Choir Vandals from St. Louis and also Hidden Hospitals from Chicago.

GRINN: “Track One”

a0777352179_10A new Springfield project has seem to arose in the past week, with the release of this new recording. Austin Connelly (Wir Können, Swamp Rat), released a first track from a new solo project called GRINN. Here is what Austin had to say:

I started a new project sort of in the vein (vain?) of how Swamp Rat was, but better. Anyways, each week I’ll be uploading a new track to this page.

Bad Banshee Release “Demo 2015,” Playing Last Show At Dumb Fest

It looks like Springfield ska/punk band Bad Banshee are deciding to call it a day. The band will be playing their very last show at Dumb Fest 3-D this upcoming Friday, and they have also released two more final songs on their bandcamp page. From the band’s facebook page:

After much deliberation, we have decided to take a break from making music and playing shows. But wait, little Banshees, do not fret: we’re leaving you with a free 2 song demo! We’ll be playing our last set Friday at Dumbfest. Come check us out. Dance plz.

Check out Bad Banshee’s last two songs, DEMO 2015, streaming below. The band will be playing at Dumb Fest 3-D at 6:00 pm this Friday. Tickets for day one of Dumb Fest 3-D are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Bad Banshee’s previous release- Skitter/Skitter was voted the #1 release of 2014 for Springfield music on our Best of 2014 music poll last year.
