This one is not happening at Black Sheep nor is it all ages, but we feel it is pretty important to mention this benefit show going on at Bar None tonight! It is a benefit for former NIL8 drummer Gary “Walnuts” Swaggerty – not to be confused with his son Gary Swaggerty III or his grandson Conor “Gary” Swaggerty IV. All of the Swaggerties have done a lot throughout the years to help out our cause! Gary “Walnuts” made recent donations of his personal CD and cassette collection to Dumb Records that he collected over the years from touring in NIL8. The show tonight at Bar None is a benefit to go towards Gary’s recent medical bills from battling (and beating) cancer.

We are thinking there is a good chance this one will be a sold out show over at Bar None, but tonight’s lineup includes Springfield punk legends NIL8, also The Timmys, and also Fragile Porcelain Mice. Stream Fragile Porcelain Mice (from St. Louis) on the player below. The show is ages 21+, and starts at 8:00 pm (will likely go much later than the Black Sheep show, so you have time to make it to both)! Check out a facebook event for the show right here.

Tonight sure is a big night at Black Sheep! We have a mega huge show going on tonight featuring THE MU330 from St. Louis, Missouri. MU330 started in 1988 and frequently played in Springfield in the 1990’s at venues such as Veile’s Planet and Off Broadway. Last time they performed in Springfield was sometime between 1998-1999. This is also an exciting time because MU330 released their first new material in 15 years yesterday which you can check out on the player below! Also on this show is Springfield punk grand papa band NIL8… last time they played at Black Sheep was Halloween of 2015! Opening things up is The Timmys who are now celebrating two whole decades of being a band together. Did you know their first show was in 1997 right here in Springfield on a show with MU330?

The show tonight kicks off right at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission is $15 – you do not have to have ordered a ticket in advance to come!! The show is all ages of course. Tonight! Happening at Bar None (yes, we know that is a picture of NIL8 inside Black Sheep above), the annual Hobgoblinspookadelic show put on by NIL8. This year is slightly special- this time around NIL8 is featuring their original lineup which includes front man Jeff Williams as standing vocalist instead of vocal/guitar duties. You can catch the band playing mostly material from their first few albums from the 1980’s and early 1990’s for a special set tonight. Stream a live recording from a past Nil8 Hobgob set below. Also on the bill is experimental punk band Boon, and 4th-place Illinois Times finalist band Livin’ Thing.

Tonight doors open up at 8:00 pm over at Bar None and music starts soon after. Admission is $5 and unfortunately this show is ages 21 and up (it’s at a bar, sorry)! October 24th at Black Sheep: HOBGOB 2015 with LEFTOVER CRACK, NIL8, Days N Daze, All Torn Up, The Incorporated

hobgob2015_flierfinal

With October just around the corner, it is finally time for us to announce our BIG plans for a Halloween show this season! This year we will not be hosting a show on Halloween, but instead exactly one week before on Saturday, October 24th we will be hosting the all ages Hobgoblinspookadelic! Each year’s Hobgob show features long running Springfield punk band NIL8. Hobgob hasn’t been hosted at The Black Sheep since a couple of years back in 2013. We are thrilled to be hosting the show this year and have QUITE the lineup of touring bands to go along with. We have the band LEFTOVER CRACK from New York on this incredible bill. Leftover Crack and previous band Choking Victim featuring members of the same band, could be described as pioneers of the “crack rock steady” genre of music, and are extremely heavy hitters in the world of crust punk and ska punk. Leftover Crack will be heading here on tour with two other bands as part of their “Cracktoberfest” tour. The other two acts are Days N Daze from Texas, and All Torn Up from New York. Opening the show is the Central Illinois band The Incorporated.

This show will start at 7:00 pm. For this one we are doing $10 for tickets purchased in advance, and tickets will be sold for $12 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, you can do so online right here, or also pick them up from Dumb Records during store hours (12-8pm every day). Find a facebook event for this one right here! And check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: NIL8 “Sheep” Acoustic Live

In honor of NIL8 recently doing a full acoustic set at Donnie’s Homespun earlier this spring, Springfield music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored has featured an older recording of NIL8 performing their song “Sheep.” The recording is from an unknown date at some point live on Springfield radio station 92.7 WQLZ. You can check out that song streaming below, or head over to the Some Things Can’t Be Ignored bandcamp page to download the song for free. From The Some Things Can’t Be Ignored blog:

I decided to dig up this old gem I’ve had for a while to share with you all just to give you a little taste of what Thursday night might sound like.  This is Jeff & Gary Brammer (Piss Pot Pete) performing “Sheep” live with just an acoustic guitar on WQLZ’s Bandemonium show.  I’m not sure when this was done, but certainly a rare performance!!

Videos: NIL8 In South Town Studio Practicing With Original Lineup

Screen Shot 2014-12-09 at 8.36.18 AM

What a treat this is. Today we have a mysterious video of what appears to be the long-running Springfield punk band NIL8 practicing in South Town Studio with an earlier lineup of the band from the 1980’s. The lineup of Jeff and Bruce Williams along with Lance Reynolds and Eric White are seen in the video which has been taken sometime within the past month. Is something in the works for the earlier lineup of the band? Could this lead to clues as to who is in Diaper Rash?

NIL8 launched a brand new website, switchdrops.com earlier this year which archives a lot of old show fliers, recordings, videos, and more. They also will be playing a holiday show at Donnie’s Homespun on December 26th this year.
