We don’t usually list out live recordings on our site here, but we figured this one is going to be a rare exception – since at this point we do not have any recordings at all for Springfield rock group Star Stuff, who has been around playing shows in town for a minute! Today we bring you some live recordings that were just released of the band’s performance at Audiofeed Music Festival which took place in Urbana this past summer. You can check out those recordings on the player below, or head over to the newly created Star Stuff bandcamp page where you can download all six tracks at your own price.
August is almost here, and with it comes the 5th Annual Downhome Music Festival. Each year Downhome Fest collects a sample of Springfield’s eclectic art and music scene, throws in a large selection of Craft Beers and turns up the volume to 11. The result? A huge party in the middle of Downtown Springfield! This years Downhome Fest brings together 34 bands on 5 stages over two days (August 7th & 8th). Bands scheduled to play include NIL8, The Timmy’s, Our Lady, The Complaint Line, The Luhzin Defense and many more.
Check the official Downhome Music Fest page here for the full line up, set times and other details. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
It’s Friday night and we have only one show happening this weekend at Black Sheep and that is tonight! Tonight marks the return of the legendary two-piece Bloomington, Indiana folk punk band Ghost Mice to the Black Sheep stage. Ghost Mice last played at Black Sheep last spring with the Macedonian punk band Bernay’s Propaganda. Stream some of Ghost Mice’s music on the player embedded below. This will be the second stop on their marathon 12 cities in 10 days tour with Pat The Bunny. Pat The Bunny is a folk solo project related to Ramshackle Glory, who played at Black Sheep last in the summer of 2012. Providing local support are the architects of nightmare ska Bad Banshee and grungy power trio SAP.
Doors open at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show HERE. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.
Our friends and neighbors over in “BloNo” are putting on the 7th Annual Midwest Punk Fest this May. Covering two days with 24 bands (including Springfield’s own fudgy-core pioneers Diaper Rash and perennial teen idols The Timmy’s); this is set to be another great weekend Fest!!!
Local experimental post-rock band Dream Eater has posted a live track from their set at the Black Sheep Holiday show on the 29th of this past December. You can listen to the track on the band’s bandcamp right here or also stream it below. We will be featuring more live sets from bands who played the Black Sheep Holiday show in the coming months on our radio show and also this site so keep checking back for those!
