Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: The Treez “Tag! You’re It!”

treez-cover1

Springfield music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored are at it again!!! This time they dig deep into the early 90s archives (1993 or 1994) to bring us “Tag! You’re It!” by Springfield power trio The Treez. From Some Things Can’t Be Ignored:

The Treez were a three piece band featuring Phil Seabrook on Bass and Vocals, Howard Freitag on Guitar, and Johnny Blazis (RIP) on Drums.  These fellas played ALL OVER Springfield and surrounding areas during the early 1990’s and had a sound that (in my opinion) perfectly envelops Springfield rock during this time.

You can head over to Some Things Can’t Be Ignored to read the full article and stream or download the full demo. Also stream the demo from The Treez below.

Mother Leopard Lineup Changes/Plans To Record

9399313588_d6f5646cff_b

Those of you who were at Black Sheep Fest 2013 towards the middle of the fest may have seen the chaotic and extremely fun set of Mother Leopard. The band usually plays as a three-piece instrumental project, but at the fest things took an unexpected turn with members of the crowd scrambling to take part in doing vocals for different songs. Since the fest the band posted this from their newly created tumblr page:

Hello everyone! Mother Leopard has a Tumblr now! We just played Blacksheep Fest 2013 and it was absolutely amazing. It was inspiring to see so many people share the microphone during our set…totally unexpected. We all feel like a lot of people left their burdens on the stage that night and we hope to continue our journey towards claiming your souls at the next show! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did. We have been a 3 piece instrumental band for a while now, with the recent addition of myself (Jess!) on bass…but BXS fest inspired us to take on a fourth member! Her name is Aubrey and she will be coming with us to Champaign, IL on Wednesday 7/31 for our first show with an official vocalist! (kind of?)

If you haven’t listened to our shit yet you can find it at http://motherleopard.bandcamp.com/

We have plans to record soon with our new lineup and with new songs. Keep in touch! Ask us questions! Message us on facebook or book us in your town jknight@capitolradiogroup.com

Love Always, Jess

The show on July 31st at Error Records in Champaign already took place and Mother Leopard played with new vocalist Aubrey. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for any new Mother Leopard shows in Springfield this late summer/fall. We plan on keeping you all updated on Mother Leopard’s plans to record and anything else going on with the band.

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: The Stifs

Springfield-based music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored has released a 1992 demo from the old legendary Springfield band The Stifs. Head here to check out the full post and download the demo for free.

These dudes pretty much embody what Springfield rock sounded like in 1992.  I heard folks talking about them plenty as I got more involved in the local music scene, but whenever I asked about recordings, I usually got a sigh and the whole, “I don’t know man…they put out one tape that I know of, but I lost my copy YEARS ago.  Man…I’d LOVE to hear those songs again!”  Well, thanks to some folks who were smart enough to put these tunes into digital form before the tape went to complete shit, here they are in all their glory!!

Anthony also gave a nice closing message for 2012/2013:

…and as 2012 draws to a close, thank you again one and all for all of your support and kind words on this blog during the year!  2012 was a pretty exciting year for Springfield music.  We’ve had new bands pop up, new venues, improved venues, a LONG overdue compilation CD (THANK YOU ROBBIE!!) and what I feel is a town that is becoming more conscious of it’s own local talent!  We also pulled in some great national acts as well with respectable support!!  VERY exciting and encouraging!!  I see people doing more, becoming more active and an overall increased appreciation for local music which makes me very proud!  Keep up the good work, Springfield!!  Looking forward to an amazing 2013 with you all!!

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: Dead Zebbra Live in 2009

The Springfield-related music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored has featured a new post containing live recordings of a Dead Zebbra set at Music At The Mall in Iowa in 2009. From Some Things Can’t Be Ignored:

What we have here is a killer performance from the fellas on Halloween of 2009 at Music at the Mall in Keokuk, Iowa.  The lineup for this show was Nate on guitar and vocals, Todd Plummer on bass and Kyle Wells on drums.  Short, but INTENSE set!!  …and they even do a Nirvana cover, so watch out for that!  This recording was later taken to the studio for “cleanup”, so it sounds pretty darn good!

You can check out the full post and download the live recordings here.

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: Recordings from Hobgob 2007

Springfield related music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored has featured a live recording of Dr. Chud’s X-Ward‘s set during the Hobgoblinspookadelic show in 2007 at City Nights in Springfield. “Dr. Chud” was not a Springfield band or musician, but instead an ex-drummer of the reincarnated version of the Misfits in the 1990s. Anthony of Some Things Can’t Be Ignored:

I know, I know…this isn’t a Springfield band, so you are probably wondering why the hell I’m posting it.  Well…the show was performed here, and it DOES feature some vocals from Mr. Ernie Bob formerly of INcontinent HavoC and currently of local punk rockers, Action Bastard.  You’ll hear him yell on “Crimson Ghost” and certainly at the end during “Bury You Alive”.  I was standing next to him during the entire set!  See?

You can find the entire post including a download to the live recordings here.
