July 26th & 27th at Bread Sheep: Midnight CD Release / Downhome Music Festival Aftershows

downhomeaftershow4.jpg

Get ready because this evening we are going to throw a lot at you for some surprise shows happening at our space later this month. This is a joint announcement for TWO shows happening at our space – BOTH are aftershows for Downhome Music Festival on July 26th and 27th, BOTH are happening right at midnight (crazy, we know), and BOTH are CD release shows for two different local artists. This is just getting too wild. Let’s break it down for each show:

The first night of Downhome Music Festival is Friday, July 26th. There will be a show at our space at midnight that night It will be a CD release show for Dexter‘s new album Weeping Venus. We are excited. You can check out the first song from that album right here. Also playing is Jeff Williams of NIL8. That show is just $3 and it’s all ages of course.

Then the next night is Saturday, July 27th (yes we are aware since we are talking midnight here it would technically be the 28th). For this one we have local grunge rockers Master Bastard‘s CD release for their new album which we have been told is being called Drinking With Children. Also on that show is Taylorville 90’s rock group Stick People, and the brand brand new surf band that’s been making splashes, Snuff Rider. Another $3, all ages show!

Both of those shows are starting right at midnight, both are all ages, and both are $3. We’ll be getting facebook events up for both of those right away. Oh, and no beer in our space for any of those. Sorry. Check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at our space this summer.

IMG_7319.jpg

Maybe we are around one week late in telling you this, but did you know that there is a new issue of Activator Magazine out? We are excited about this one because it features new local band Blushe on the cover – and a photo that was taken in our space! You can pick up the monthly magazine for free in our store and read an interview with the band. This issue Activator also launched a new feature – with the start of a video series with Blushe as the first feature. The magazine interviewed the band in the video and also caught some footage of them playing live in our space as well. You can check that video out below!

Aside from the Blushe interview, you can find: plenty of album reviews, live show calendars, a photospread of Midwest Punkfest XI, more photos of Activator’s birthday show at Dumb Records, a recap of Perimeter Road Music Festival, an interview with Junior Pasáre, an interview with Shawn “Push” Freligh, a story about how some LLCC students created some mobile game called “Floofy”, and much much more.

Last night was amazing! Our most well-attended show at the new location so far! We are keeping the ball rolling with another solid show lined up tonight! Come out out! Tonight we have the mighty return of the mighty might band Jocko from Ohmaha, Nebraska. Jocko played here last at Black Sheep the first night of Dumb Fest 6 for those of you who were around for that a little over one year ago at this point. Stream some of Jocko’s music on the player below if you are unfamiliar. Also on this show is Final Order. Right in the middle we have a curveball and that is local hip hop act Animals With Human Names, playing his first show at Bread Stretchers 2.0. Then we’ve got St. Louis area hardcore group Brute Force coming back to play the Bread Stretch for yet another time. Opening things up is another little curveball with the *chill* solo project of Vincent Sebastian.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm that day and it’s $7 to get in to see five acts. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else we’ve got coming up at Beard Strappers in the near future.

We are getting back into the swing of things with having some solid guests coming up on our weekly radio show on 88.3 FM WQNA! This week is going to kick off a long run of some great scheduled guests, with the guest being Tim Smith: organizer behind the new downtown music festival “Abe Fest” which is happening in just two weeks on July 19th and 20th. We’ll be talking with Tim on what that festival is all about, what to expect, as well as playing music from some of the bands playing such as The Smithereens, The BoDeans, and Spoonbenders! Plus we’ll be playing other music by local artists and from shows coming up at our space and around town.

The Dumb Records Radio Show is on today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM, and also on that same time online at wqnaradio.org. We are going to be working to get some of our more recent episodes recorded here very soon, hopefully starting with this one today!

Alright, now that the 4th of July is done and over with, the weekend is here and we have two really big shows lined up tonight and tomorrow next door at Bread Sheep! Tonight!: a brand new lineup full band version of Looming is taking the stage for the first time in a while. Wow! There are two touring acts from Michigan on this show. One of them is Great Expectations from Detroit, playing some emo type music that you can find on the player below. They will be on tour with another band called Seaholm from Ann Arbor. Opening this show up is a slow performance by Blue Parks, who may be going by the performance name of Body Forth.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is going to be a sliding scale of $5-10. You can check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Bread Stretchers shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at the show space next to us.

We Are Searching For Sponsors To Make A Really Big Show At Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s Happen This September.

hardeeswolf1.jpg

Good afternoon! We’ve never made a post on our website like this one before. This is a post to let you know a really really big (free) show might potentially be happening at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s on Monday, September 30th – however we need to put a feeler out to make sure we can pull it off.

We do not have things locked in and confirmed with a potential band from overseas that would be playing at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s on September 30th, so unfortunately we can not tell you what it is, other than that it will be the biggest thing we will have pulled off setting up there. The band does have a guarantee that we are trying to get met – and having the show at Hardee’s would mean we would not be able to charge admission, which would mean we would need to meet the guarantee for the band’s costs, and also additional costs such as sound setup through sponsors for the event.

SO, with this post we are reaching out to any potential sponsors – which could mean local businesses, or individual people that can help us make this happen. We know that it might be odd asking for this without being able to say who the band is, but trust us, if it happens it’s going to be good. You can reach out to us by coming in our store, emailing dumbrecs@gmail.com or calling 217-691-8991. We would be up for working with different sponsorship levels to make sure the event happens. Also sponsors would potentially get their name or logo listed on a poster that gets distributed all over town, potential radio mentions, and table or booth space at the actual event. We are flexible on what can happen here!

August 1st at Bread Sheep: Greentop, Wyatt Moran, Bottom Bracket

65606276_2562144983836853_5879458375913177088_o.jpg

Oops, we have another Thursday night show in the works! This one is happening at 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 1st. It’s actually the same night as the last Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series event featuring John Moreland, which is why we are starting things later here at 8:00 pm. It’s just a three band show, highly recommended. We have two touring acts from Minnesota. The first of which is “Greentop” playing some indie/alternative music that you can find streaming on the player below. Greentop will be touring with solo act Wyatt Moran who is also from Rochester, Minnesota. Then of course there’s Bottom Bracket, who will be going either first or last on the lineup, we are not sure.

Again, this show starts at 8:00 pm that night and admission is $6. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Bread Sheep in the near future!!

Tonight at CFP: Dead Selves, Dana Skully, Kate The Band, Marble Teeth

If you haven’t noticed, the “CFP” house venue has been pretty quiet these past few months as things have been more up and rolling on the “Bread Stretchers” end of things. However, tonight the Springfield basement is hosting what looks like their one and only show this summer and the first one since shows have been happening at Bread Stretchers. Tonight the show at the CFP features the full band lineup of Kate The Band, who just released two hot new tracks on our site this past week. There are two touring bands on this show. The first is “Dead Selves” from Atlanta, Georgia. You can stream their music on the player below. The other band is “Dana Skully & The Tiger Sharks”. Wait, that band played at Black Sheep before, didn’t they? Opening things up is an act we haven’t seen in a minute – Marble Teeth from Decatur, Illinois.

All of this starts at the CFP house at 7:00 on July 3rd – yes, they will be serving Crusty Fish Pies as part of their vegan bake sale. It’s $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page where we try to keep a list of shows going on outside of our space in town.
