Tonight at The Radon Lounge: Lowder, Lapland, Big Storm

Tonight there is a show happening over at our good friends The Radon Lounge. The Radon is one of Springfield’s newer house venues that has taken on doing DIY shows. There is a show going on there at 7:00 tonight and you should go! The first band we have to tell you about is Springfield’s own rock band Lowder. Then there will be a performance by a touring solo project called Lapland. You can find some of his music streaming on the bandcamp player below. Opening the show up is Springfield’s own Big Storm. Big Storm is a feel-good rock band featuringBrandon Carnes and a few other musicians. They will also be playing Black Sheep Fest on July 27th.

Aporia: “Brusque Changes”

a2730470723_10Today we bring you a stream from one of Springfield’s many new harsh noise projects, Aporia. Aporia has just released a new EP entitled Brusque Changes. You can head over to Aporia’s bandcamp page, or stream it on the embedded player below. The EP features six brand new songs titled numbers “1” through “6”.

Stay tuned for more on upcoming Aporia shows at Black Sheep. You can also catch one of Jeff Brown’s other projects, And God Said Dance, at Black Sheep on Friday, August 2nd. If you are looking to catch more Springfield noise projects live, there will be some performing at August 12th and August 21st at Black Sheep.

August 2nd at Black Sheep: The Luzhin Defense, The Bumping Uglies, And God Said Dance

9235400603_4e33836354_bShow announcement! It looks like on Friday, August 2nd we will be having an electronic/dance show (which is something that hasn’t happened for way too long)! This show will feature Springfield’s very own Luzhin Defense. The Luzhin Defense released their long-time coming brand new self-titled album recently through bandcamp, which you can find right here. Next up we have weirdo-experimental electronic music from Austin, Texas going by the band name of The Bumping Uglies. You can check out some of their music on the player embedded below. Opening the show up is Springfield’s favorite two-piece goofball dance band And God Said Dance. You may recognize the members from Emperor Norton or Aporia.

Today at Black Sheep: Black Sheep Battle of the Bands

1000191_10152978133060512_1663116714_nReady for tonight? This afternoon and evening is the big Battle of The Bands happening at Black Sheep! There will be seven bands playing in the battle. The Battle of the Bands is something fairly new we are trying this summer, although there was a Battle of the Bands that took place years ago when Black Sheep was at our early stages (thanks Roger)! The lineup of bands is as follows:

The battle begins today at 4:00 pm and goes until 10:00 pm. Come out early for our roundtable and street team meeting at 1:00 pm! Did we tell you what the winners of the Battle of the Bands will be getting? One winner be chose by a panel of judges. That band will be getting four free songs recorded in the studio! There will also be a second winner chosen by the crowd. That band will receive a slot on Black Sheep Fest 2013 happening on Saturday, July 27th! Sounds like fun stuff!

 

Our Lady “Vessels” Pre-orders

OurLadySplashv3The time has finally come! Remember that Our Lady 7″ that was announced a while ago earlier this year? Well the pre-orders for the vinyl are finally here! Now you can finally own some Our Lady tunes on vinyl! Pre-orders for the 7″ can be found on the Mind Over Matter Records website right here. You get to take your pick on vinyl colors transparent red or opaque lavender (limited to 100 of each color). The first pre-orders will also receive one of the test pressings with alternate artwork and numbered out of 12. Is that not enough for you? Well on top of all of that Our Lady has teamed up with Mind Over Matter Records to bring you a brand new song off of the Vessels 7″ called “Assessing”. You can check out that song below.

Our Lady has also started posting dates for their upcoming August West Coast tour! They will be heading out from August 4th through the 27th and plan to make it out to Texas, California, and back. You can check out those dates below. Our Lady will be playing in Springfield next at this year’s Black Sheep Fest happening on Saturday, July 27th.

Black Sheep Street Team/Roundtable Meeting Tomorrow

fliersThis is important! Black Sheep Fest is almost two weeks away and we have a lot of promoting to do to make sure that this is the best Black Sheep Fest yet! Tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:00 pm (before the Battle of the Bands) we will be hosting a big Black Sheep street team and Black Sheep roundtable meeting. We will meet at Black Sheep at 1:00 to discuss upcoming shows and plans for us for the rest of the summer, and then we will depart and split into groups to hang up fliers around town. Sounds like fun! We will be providing the fliers, but you are also welcome to bring some of your own.

Also don’t forget that the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands will be happening from 4:00 to 10:00 pm tomorrow at Black Sheep. There are seven new and younger bands on the bill that will be competing for a spot on Black Sheep Fest and a few studio recordings.

Black Sheep Radio Tomorrow: Clint Kesinger (Good Times)

1069017_10200969807561535_519161244_nTomorrow it’s another episode of Black Sheep Radio! Who’s behind the magic guest door this time? It’s Clint Kesigner of local metalcore/heavy band Battalion! Clint is already a friend of the show and has been in the studio before to talk about his band Battalion. This time he is coming in to talk about his new solo project called Good Times, and also about his recent move to Springfield. Clint will be talking about any upcoming shows he has, and he might also perform a song or two live in the studio. Did you also know that Battalion will be playing Black Sheep Fest on Saturday, July 27th?

Black Sheep Radio airs tomorrow (Friday) from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. You can stream it at 88.3 WQNA fm or online at wqna.org. You can also check out our radio tab for more information on our radio show and also plenty of downloads of old episodes.

Tonight at Black Sheep!: Meredosia, Free At Last, Bladknobber, Aporia, Bo Mellado

Tonight at Black Sheep, we have a very mixed genre show! We have  two touring bands, Free At Last and Baldknobber. Free At Last is a hardcore band from Springfield, Missouri on Dog Years Records. Baldknobber is also a hardcore band from Springfield, Missouri. Opening things up, we have Aporia (harsh noise brought to you by Jeff Brown of And God Said Dance), and local troublemaker Bo Mellado of Mildred and Meredosia. Speaking of Meredosia (Post-rock/Ambient feels), they’re playing too! They will be closing up the show.

Black Sheep Fest 2013 T-Shirt Contest!

shirtcontestHere at blacksheepspringfield.com we are always trying new things. This week we are trying something new and that is a t-shirt designing contest! That’s right! YOU can design the next Black Sheep Fest shirt! Here are the contest rules:

– Designs can be submitted to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com
– Any design goes! The shirt color can be pretty much anything.
– Contest deadline is in one week! Wednesday, July 17th.
– Voting will take place here at blacksheepspringfield.com directly after the deadline for three days.
– The winning shirt design and most popular vote will be printed in time for Black Sheep Fest on July 27th! We will probably do a limited run of 50 shirts.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Lovecow, Unraveler, Highwayyys, Self Proclaimed Narcissist, Montagh

It is a fun acoustic show featuring some great touring and local acts. It features acoustic songer/songwriter Unraveler from Pittsburg Pennsylvania. On tour with Unraveler and also from Pittsburg is Highwayyys.  Then we get to experience some acoustic music from the other end of the country all the way over from Roseburg, Oregon! We have Self Proclaimed Narcissist, another one-man singer/songwriter. All of that should be a lot of fun. To top the show off we have a couple of local bands on the bill. We have the acoustic full-band Lovecow and also Montagh.
