Whoops, we almost forgot to tell you – there is a five act show happening tonight at The CFP House here in town! It’s surely a matter of time before we are up and running with shows at our new space, but for now we are still in a house show era of Springfield underground music. This one looks like a pretty solid lineup – the Looming three-piece band is making a rare basement appearance tonight. Also Bottom Bracket who are hard at work on a new album and recently did a four day tour or something. Tonight there are two touring acts – one including “Farseek” from Ohio that played at Black Sheep at some point, right? If anyone remembers that old legendary Springfield DIY space. Also on tour from Michigan is Complainer. We have their music streaming on the player below. Opening things up is Springfield solo acoustic act Flunkie!

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page, which we need to update. Thanks!

Activator Magazine Launch New Patreon Campaign, February Issue Still Available Inside Dumb Records

Feb_Spread.jpg

Our friends over at Activator Magazine are still keeping the great local music content coming in the form of their monthly magazine – we never put up a post but we’ve had the February issue available at Dumb Records for some time now! The issue features local singer/songwriter Alexa Redd on the cover. There’s plenty of great stuff, so come in and pick one up for free – before you know it it’s going to be March and there will be another issue out!

Activator Magazine also just launched an online Patreon campaign online! What’s that about? Well, if you sign up for just three bucks a month you get to be a contributor to the magazine’s mission, as well as peep some exclusive content in advance (like get a glimpse at who’s going to be on the cover of the March issue). We are lucky to have a free monthly print magazine focusing on local music and art in town, so support what they are doing if you can! Go check out their Patreon account online right here.

There’s A Show Happening In The Library This Upcoming Saturday

libbbybb.jpg

There were rumors floating around that a secret show at The Lincoln Library was happening… and it looks like these rumors turned out to be true! This upcoming Saturday, March 2nd at 6:00 pm there is a free show happening in the public library featuring three acts. Amazing! Bands playing include Springfield’s very own pop / punk group Attic Salt at the top of the bill. Check out their music streaming on the player below. Also is everyone’s favorite Champaign rock group “Nectar” which has played in Springfield many times. Opening things up is Mary Jo Curry according to the flier above, who we do not know much about.

That starts at 6:00 pm inside the Lincoln Library downtown on Capitol and 7th streets… we are guessing somewhere on the ground floor of the library. The event is free and all ages. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up in Springfield while we are waiting on our venue space to get approved.

March 9th: Dumb Records Downtown Location Grand Opening

grandopeningfornow.jpg

Okay, we can’t wait any longer, we’re going to have a grand opening for our new location. On Saturday, March 9th in a little over just two weeks – The Official Grand Opening™ of the new Dumb Records Downtown Location. Yes, we are open every day from 1:00 to 8:00 pm right now and have been “soft” open for over a month now, but we are ready to make this official. On March 9th we will be open all day from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm and we’ll just go ahead and say our store will be in full swing mode by then. Maybe we’ll keep building stuff after that date (we probably will)! How’s the venue portion coming along? No bands are playing this grand opening, however we are closer than we ever have been now that’s for sure – we still don’t know when exactly we will have final approval for shows. If anything this date will be an opportunity for us to show off our space to any of you who haven’t seen it. Also of course at 11:00 am the mayor Jim Langfelder will be here for an official ribbon cutting. Don’t miss that! Coffee will be provided by new local coffee shop Foamed Up (they are located out at the mall.

We’ll get a facebook event for this going right away, don’t you worry.

Tonight at Bar None: Masked Intruder, The Timmys, Hospital Job

Look at those guys up there! ^^^ Is that the telly-tubbies? No! For those of you who have been around the music scene for a very long time (3-5 years), may remember those guys playing at Black Sheep in… 2015(?) and before then at Skank Skanks for a rare show in 2014. They are a band called Masked Intruder from Wisconsin, and they are playing across the street from our new location at Bar None (245 S 5th Street) tonight! Yes, the show is ages 21+ but we figure any show at Bar None is worth mentioning on our site here especially since they are our new neighbors. Also playing this show are local punk rock legends The Timmys – and also another rare performance by Hospital Job – playing one of their first local shows since putting out their new album Haze Like Me!

That show kicks off tonight at Bar None. We can’t figure out how much money that it costs to get in, we think $10. Find a facebook event right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page if you are thirsty for more live music while you wait for our new venue’s doors to open.

Dumb Records In The Running For “Best Music Store”, “Best Twitter” on SJ-R Reader’s Choice Awards

readerstwitter.jpg

Yes, it’s that time of year again.  Or… one of those times of year since The Illinois Times “Best Of Springfield” is held in the fall. Now it’s the “Reader’s Choice Awards” as put on by the State Journal Register. There are many many many categories for local businesses, people, bands, and even the non-local businesses. It’s impossible for us to keep up with them all. From what we gather however, Dumb Records is in the running for a few things this year – “Best Music Store” and “Best Local Twitter”?!? (We are not sure if we’ve ever been in the running for either of these categories, but we’ll take it!

BIG warning / disclaimer: do not ever EVER head over to our twitter page if you plan on taking anything seriously!!!

It turns out that Black Sheep is also in the running in the category of best live band venue!?!? (This makes sense if this is a recap of the past year of Springfield).

To go vote, head over to the State Journal-Register site right here. To vote for Black Sheep, the best venue is in the “entertainment category”, the best twitter is in the “fun” category, and “best music store” is in the “shopping” category. We also love all of our local business friends, so vote for everyone! Or whoever you want to!

WQNA FM Back On Air!

AR-190219710.jpg

We are thrilled to announce this afternoon that our community radio station WQNA – 88.3 fm which hosts The Black Sheep Radio Show / The Dumb Records Radio Hour is back on air after nearly a month-long hiatus! A few dedicated volunteers to the station have been hard at work to make sure a new computers to power the station are up and running and also managed to get a damaged / frozen transmitter fixed. The station still isn’t coming in completely full power just yet – but it soon will. You can also stream the station (in full power) online at wqna.net. We have been told that the station schedule listed on the site is also getting updated today. Find an online article in the SJ-R about WQNA being back on air right here.

Yes, this means “The Dumb Records Radio Hour” will be back on air this upcoming Friday at our normal time of 4-6pm.

Sadface Killer: “Domino Line”

a3378142366_10.jpg

Happy Valentines Day from us over at Dumb Records. Today we are bringing you some new emo music – not exactly from right here in Springfield but it is featuring one member that goes to school here at UIS and also volunteers at Dumb Records so it counts as Springfield music by us. That is Sadface Killer‘s newest album Domino Line – 13 tracks which you can find streaming all on the player below. Nice. Head over to the band’s bandcamp page where you can purchase the download of the album.

Sadface Killer played one of the final Black Sheep shows back in December with Park and Earthwitch. They don’t have any Springfield shows currently lined up.
