Photos: Black Sheep Art Show

The Black Sheep Art Show last night was a huge success, and we would like to thank all of you who came out or participated in the event. There was a wide range of art and acts from murals to comic books, from piano playing to spoken word. We have gathered a few pictures from last night, some of which you can check out below. For a few more of these pictures, head over to our Black Sheep flickr set, where we have been keeping photos of Black Sheep outside of usual shows with bands playing. Be on the look out for art shows in the future.

Some of you may have also noticed a couple of new murals that have been popping up inside of our space. You might be wondering what it takes to do a mural or art piece inside of Black Sheep. Well it takes nothing! Just talk to us at a show or email blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will arrange something so you can come and do art in our space.

Tomorrow is another episode of Black Sheep Radio! Instead of having just Greg Harvey this time, we will have everyone BUT Greg Harvey! This includes our usual hosts Robbie Kording and Brandon Carnes, and also one special guest. That special guest is a rap artist and clothing company going by the name Cooshit. We don’t know much else about our guest this week so we are excited to talk to him and find out more about what he does. We will also talk to him about his show coming up at Black Sheep on August 30th, which is being called the “Cooshit SuperDuperDopeDank Show.”

Hey everyone, tonight’s show is definitely going to be enjoyable. Here’s what we got! On this show we have Naughtalus, which is a moody and rhythmic experimental band rooted right here in Springfield. We will also have the pleasure of welcoming Jacksonville based band Flamingo. When they play their psychedelic trippy folk rock, their main goal is to “soothe the soul of the hardworking and emotionally exhausted human being”, according to their band page. We could all use a little of that so look forward to them! Another band we will have the pleasure of featuring here tonight at Black Sheep is 64 Squares. These folks will be sure to give us an awesomely raw and emotional performance through their gazey, artsy punk jams. Last but not least! Black Sheep’s 2013 Battle of the Bands participant Haircut Actual will be performing for us tonight. Coming from Mt. Pulaski, they have some alternative rock tunes for us to enjoy so stick around my good friends, cause this show is gonna have the perfect combination of music to make your hearts SING!

The weather is predicted to possibly produce an epic thunderstorm with temperatures ranging between 31 degrees C/ 17 degrees C. The show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Don’t forget to check out our shows page for a complete list of shows coming up at Black Sheep!

Check it out!

Soap Scum is a local group of street rats straight from the sewers, as well as your worst cleaning nightmare! They have many dirty hard-punk tunes to offer, so get ready to get grimy! Next on the list is Cross Me, coming from Milwaukee. This hardcore band has some thrashy jams with a good beat so look forward to hearing those folks! Following them is Champaign based punk band Wolf Luv, which is where that live wolf comes in that I mentioned earlier.

Fear not, ladies and gents and its, it won’t bite too hard!

To end the show, we have two noise sets. First off is IAMIAM, the work of Austin Connelly, also in Montaugh and Wir Konnen. His noise set is super raw with hints of nostalgia so stick around for him and also for Gazeebo, the next noise set! Gazeebo features Drew Kodrich who, through this set, will introduce us to some aspects of brutality at it’s finest.

The weather is predicted to be clear with temperatures ranging from 31 degrees C/ 20 degrees C

Check out this preview of Cross Me! It’s gonna be a good show, everyone, so come out and show your support!

Soap Scum Recording New Material

soaprecordingHere at blacksheepspringfield.com headquarters we just caught wind that Springfield punk/hardcore band Soap Scum is up to something. The band appears to be recording some new material, but nothing is known about any future releases planned for the band. We will have to give out more updates once more information is known.

Soap Scum released a five-song demo on cassette earlier this year. You might be able to find that hidden somewhere in their band page. The band will also be playing at Black Sheep tomorrow night with Cross Me, Wolf Luv, IAMIAM, and Gazeebo. You can also catch them at Black Sheep on September 13th along with Bad Side, Ruz, and Mother Leopard. Are you interested in helping fight and keeping your town free of Soap Scum? New Music from Prescott/Mark Reynolds

markWe are all very excited to share with you guys new music from Mark Lee Reynolds, of Prescott and the newly formed War Magic fame. Mark has been at it again creating his unique spin on modern music. Blending electronic sounds and experimental melodies, he creates haunting atmospheres without neglecting those all important pop hooks. Below are three tunes over the three recently released EPs, one which features Ryan Pennell.

Be sure to keep an ear out for new music and possible shows from the Reynolds camp.

New Band Pages: RDNT, IAMIAM

photoToday we are bringing you two brand new band pages of two new-ish Springfield projects. The first is the young punk band RDNT. You may have caught their set at Black Sheep Fest last month. The band has recently undergone a slight lineup change. You can read more about RDNT on their band page right here. The second page we have set up is for the new harsh noise project of Austin Connelly (Montagh, Wir Konnen, Worms) called IAMIAM. IAMIAM played his first show earlier this month at Black Sheep, and will also be playing again on Wednesday along with Soap Scum, Cross Me, Wolf Luv, and Gazeebo. We also mentioned that the final show would include some sort of music festival featuring bands of the heavier genres. Today we are back with more news of Pound For Pound’s last show and the music fest that is going along with!

The festival is being called “The End Is Here Fest.” It features a few local and out of town bands and will close with Pound For Pound performing their final set. The fest will be held at Black Sheep on Saturday, November 9th. Aside from Pound For Pound, there will be nine bands performing. This includes Blood In/Blood Out from Indiana who will be performing their only show in the Midwest this year. This will also include local metal/hardcore band Battalion, who last played Black Sheep at Black Sheep Fest in July. Next up is Human Animal from Pennsylvania. They play hardcore. Then we have Smoke And Mirrors, which is another hardcore band from Pennsylvania. Next is Dissention, which is a St. Louis hardcore band which features one former member of Pound For Pound.
