Stage Donations Are Closing In On The Goal

First Off: Thank to every single one of you. All your donations and work hours has made the process for BXS’ renewal a whole lot easier. Our monetary goals for the stage are very close!

Though big reveal for “Stage 1” is on October 19th, our work isn’t quite done. We want to encourage the continuation of the donations. Though the cost of the stage is almost covered, the projects we have planned will be costing. These plans will be announced over the next couple weeks.  If you have any ideas, please email blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com.

To those of you following our “roundtable” meetings this fall- we are not meeting tonight.  Instead we will continue cleaning, painting, and doing other inside projects this afternoon.  Everyone is welcome to come help.  Our next meeting will be one week from today at 7:00 pm.

Another reminder – if you have any equipment inside of Black Sheep right now then you need to get it out.  We are cleaning and clearing out space especially in the front windows and equipment left in the space is getting in our way.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Hank, Foxtail, Like… With Jetpacks, Brandon Carnes

Tonight as we are in the middle of our autumn cleaning we have a mixed genre and fun show for you all.  The band Hank from Champaign is doing a small midwestern tour and Black Sheep is one of their stops.  Then we have a handful of local bands.  Emo and noodley project Foxtail will be playing.  The instrumental video game themed band Like… With Jetpacks will take the floor and so will Brandon Carnes with his solo acoustic set.

The show starts at 7:00 pm and is $5.  You can find a facebook event here.  Be sure to check out all of our other upcoming shows over at our shows page.

Henry Rollins at Hoogland Tonight

Henry Rollins will be performing with his spoken word tonight at the Hoogland Center Downtown.  Tickets can be purchased ahead of time here.  The event starts at 7:30 pm and is $32 in advance and $35 at the door.

You can also find an article the Illinois Times did on Henry Rollins coming to Springfield here.  From the article:

Henry Rollins is no Abe Lincoln.  But that doesn’t stop the 51-year-old punk rock icon, TV personality, author and blogger from incorporating sections of the 16th president’s 1838 speech to the Young Men’s Lyceum in Springfield as part of “Capitalism,” his current spoken word tour of all 50 state capitals, which touches down at the Hoogland Center for the Arts next Thursday, Oct. 11. “I talk a lot about Lincoln, just because he’s a very meaningful American to me,” says Rollins in a telephone interview. “I just like the way the guy thought.”

Right up there is an invitation to a spectacular punk show going on tonight at Black Sheep. We have Run, Forever making a return to Springfield on tour all the way from Pennsylvania. Hospital Job will most likely be playing some songs off of their upcoming full length. Come wish Our Lady luck as they play a hometown show before going off to play a lot of other midwest towns in the upcoming months. And come sing along to the all-acoustic Lovecow.

Hospital Job Discuss Upcoming Album In Interview

Bloomington-Normal website The BN Groove recently interviewed Springfield musician Luke McNeil of Hospital Job and The Copyrights to discuss Hospital Job’s upcoming full-length: Downer, Downer, Downer.  The album is scheduled to come out later this month on Insubordination Records on 12″ vinyl.  You can check out the interview here.  The BN Groove also talked to Adam Fletcher about the Carbondale-based band The Copyrights.  Find that interview here.  Both bands have a show in Bloomington Normal on Friday.

The BN Groove also reviewed Hospital Job’s upcoming album Downer Downer Downer.  From the review:

Hospital Job is simply a different band – and that’s a good thing.
What’s offered with “Downer, Downer, Downer” is a collection of 11 songs that follows similar concepts and thought processes as past Copyrights recordings, but the music is different; more melodic, allowing for serious breathing room and offering some change-ups reminiscent of math rock.

Check out the full review here.  Hospital Job will also be playing with Run, Forever, Our Lady, and Lovecow at Black Sheep tomorrow.

11/3 at Black Sheep: Big Storm, Brother George, Tyler & Asa, War Magic

We have a neapolitan show coming up on Saturday, November 3rd featuring some of the most neapolitan feel-good rock you have ever heard.  Big Storm is bringing the big strawberry flavor of fun.  Brother George from Chicago is coming down for a very vanilla rockin time.  Check out Tyler & Asa for some chocolatey surprises.  And then we ran out of flavors for the new Springfield band War Magic.  They are their own flavor.

You can check out a facebook event for the show here.  It starts at 7:00 pm and is $5.  Feel free to check out some of our other upcoming events here.

Today at Black Sheep: “Magic The Gathering” Tournament

Game nights at Black Sheep has evolved into other fun events and today we are hosting a “Magic: The Gathering” tournament.  Those of us running the site do not know much about how Magic cards work, so I am just going to insert the description from the facebook event:

$5 entry fee, all participants will receive one Return to Ravnica booster and the top 4 finishers will win additional boosters. The format we will be using will be Pauper Legacy, meaning your deck may contain cards from any set except Unhinged or Unglued, but your deck must be constructed with only COMMON cards (minimum of 60 cards in a deck). Limiting everyone to common cards should allow everyone, whether a new player or veteran, to be able to put together a decent deck. If you aren’t sure if a card is common or not you can look it up on deckbox.org or gatherer.wizards.com

If that sounds like it might be something you are interested in then come out today!  The Magic begins at 1:30 pm.  Come join the Magic happening at Black Sheep this fall.  Check out what other events we have coming up here.
