August 2020 Issue of Activator Available Now

IMG_6264

This is a post to let you know that we now have the brand new issue of Activator Magazine in stock at Dumb Records (for free). Nice. This issue features multi-instrumental recording musicianical, Mark Schwartz on the cover. A man who has came out with at least 6 or 7 albums during quarantine alone.

As usual, there are more album reviews and write-ups, a 217 scene report, poems… no upcoming show calendar this time (which is very understandable). Other interviews for this issue include… interviews with Flipside, Dan Vapid, the new Decatur group “The Rolling Sixes USA,” The Run Around, Ciraxis, Tello, Jeff Curtis Williams (DIM Art House), Morgan Fleck (Buzz Bomb Brewery), and Diana Thronley. All of this and much, much, more!!!

You can pick up a free copy of Activator Magazine at Dumb Records now, or various other locations around town. Be sure to help support this wonderful magazine by checking out their online Patreon page!!!

Today we are letting you know of more cancellations for major events usually taking place downtown this time of year. Most of this comes as no surprise. The following events are cancelled this year:

  • Blues & BBQ Festival
  • Labor Day Parade
  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade (previously re-scheduled for September)

We were kind of looking forward to a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in September, but understand that once again safety precautions must be taken in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The good news in all of this is that parking downtown is still free, and free parking has been extended until Labor Day weekend, September 7th for now!

Springfield Featured in Spotlight on Levitt AMP Blog

Header

Although the Levitt AMP Music Series that was supposed to be taking place once again this summer out on the Y-block here downtown has been post-poned until 2021, the Levitt AMP site remains active and the foundation has also been active hosting online concerts. Springfield’s very own group, The Deep Hollow was featured as part of the online series late last month, and along with that the Levitt AMP site blog had a nice write-up spotlighting Springfield. You can check that all out right here. From the post:

Nearly 8,000 people attended the inaugural Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series last summer, and lawn surveys conducted by volunteers show an enthusiastic response from the community. Over 80 percent of respondents said that they would like to see a permanent concert venue in the space, and would regularly attend concerts if a permanent band shell was constructed. Other suggestions from the community include a dog park, tennis courts, food truck plaza, and more. “No one was using this block before Levitt AMP,” says (Lisa) Stott, “and now people see the possibilities.”

Keep following that Levitt AMP Springfield facebook page for more Levitt related going-ons and news on the 2021 season to be announced later on.
