It’s gonna be an awesome show tonight! Here’s what we got! Kowabunga! Kid is an awesome, hot, indie poppish band from Champaign and they will be giving us some enjoyable tunes. Lovecow is our favorite, local, endearing folk punk band so we’ll be hearing some jams from them. Wir Konnen is a newcoming band that we will have the pleasure of hearing for the first time. Word is they have an emo vibe going on and will feature some members from Lovecow, Montagh and more! This won’t be the only first show tonight. Douglass, composed of the lovely Tara Lynne Tracy, will grace our ears with some experimental, emotional folk. Apparently there will also be an acoustic suprise! Hopefully it’s not as gruesome as the mystery meat suprise featured in every middle school lunchline ever.

The weather is estimated to produce a thunderstorm with temperatures ranging from 27 degrees C/ 19 degrees C. 7:00 pm! 5 bucks! Check it out! You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also don’t forget to check out what other shows are coming up at Black Sheep on our shows page.

Lovecow: “Lovecow”

lovecow

Hey everybody, guess who has a tape out? Lovecow! That’s right, one of our favorite local folk punk bands Lovecow has a tape out titled “Lovecow”. Check it out below or head over to the band’s bandcamp page here! As they state on their page, this is their very first cassette tape! On it lingers 11 tracks, with some popular songs of theirs such as “They Say”,  “Do Something” and “Sorry I said fuck at the JSA show”. Mixed in are some new songs so make sure to check it out! It’s swell stuff. Recording was made possible by Sir Brandon Carnes and was released on the 27th of this month (at Black Sheep Fest). You can get it for $5 at any of their shows or download it through the link I inlcuded above. Do one or both and float on some folk punk tunes for awhile!

You can also pick up the cassette from Lovecow at their show at Black Sheep tomorrow (August 3rd). They will be playing along with Kowabunga! Kid, Wir Konnen, and Douglass.

August 30th at Black Sheep: Cooshit, Scott Blacula, Habilis Riccardo

970290_4405501634449_168233021_nHere at Black Sheep, it has been quite a while since we have had a rap show! For those of you who were at The Battle of the Bands earlier this month, you may have caught a sneak peak of acts from a new rap recording project called “The Cage” from across South Grand. Today we are announcing a rap/mixed genre show coming up at the end of August! This show is happening on Friday, August 30th. It will feature the rap project Cooshit and is being called the Cooshit SuperDuperDopeDank Show! In the middle of the show we have grind/metal band Scott Blacula, who we think lost a battle to Emperor Norton at Black Sheep Fest last weekend. Opening the show up is another rap project going by the name Habilis Riccardo. The flier says that there will be more surprises including a “free shirt giveaway”, “cooking contest?!?”, and “free candy”?!? Sounds like a lot of fun!

The show kicks off at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event to the show right here. Also don’t forget to check our shows page for other shows that are coming up at Black Sheep in August!

Photos: Black Sheep Fest 2013

This past weekend was a success on many levels for Black Sheep and Springfield music as a whole. Great times were had by all, and we saw many bands put on some fantastic sets. We saw lots of new faces, a few old ones, and there were also plenty of surprises. Here is what Black Sheep owner Kevin Bradford had to say:

The fest yesterday was great. Thank you to everyone involved. Truth be told I did not think Black Sheep would be here for 8 years, but I sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported it. As long as you got something good from us, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been around 8 minutes or eight years.

And now for the pictures! We have about one hundred pictures gathered from Black Sheep Fest, and they are still coming in! You can check out a few of those photos below, or head over to our Black Sheep Fest 2013 Flickr set.

New Band Pages: Aporia, Blank Gravestone, Good Times

Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 9.10.04 AMToday we are bringing you not one, not two, but THREE brand new band pages for three new Springfield bands. Our list of current Springfield bands keeps growing, and growing, and growing.

Our first page is for one of the main new harsh noise projects in this gigantic surge of noise that we have been recently seeing in Springfield and that is Aporia! Aporia features Jeff Brown of And God Said Dance. On the new Aporia page you can check out a bio and find links to music/noise of the project. Aporia will also be playing next at Black Sheep on Monday, August 5th along with Pound For Pound, Scott Blacula, Primitive Man, and Reproacher.

The next page is for a band that played their very first show at the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands earlier this month. They are called Blank Gravestone! On their page you can find more about them, and also see a video of them playing their first show at the battle of the bands. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Blank Gravestone shows at Black Sheep in the near future.

The third page is for a new solo acoustic project of Battalion frontman Clint Kesinger. Clint calls his new project “Good Times” and you can check out his new page here. You might find the music of Good Times to be a little different than that of Battalion. On the page you can stream his new self-titled EP and read more about how the project came to be.

You can check out any of the 50-something band pages we have put together for current Springfield bands right here. Do you play in a band from Springfield  that is not on our list yet? We would love to hear from you! Shoot us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set one up!
