November 9th at Black Sheep: “The End Is Here Fest”

998928_10151737464365675_115900439_nA short while back we told you that Springfield hardcore band Pound For Pound has sadly decided to call it quits and play one final show in November. We also mentioned that the final show would include some sort of music festival featuring bands of the heavier genres. Today we are back with more news of Pound For Pound’s last show and the music fest that is going along with!

The festival is being called “The End Is Here Fest.” It features a few local and out of town bands and will close with Pound For Pound performing their final set. The fest will be held at Black Sheep on Saturday, November 9th. Aside from Pound For Pound, there will be nine bands performing. This includes Blood In/Blood Out from Indiana who will be performing their only show in the Midwest this year. This will also include local metal/hardcore band Battalion, who last played Black Sheep at Black Sheep Fest in July. Next up is Human Animal from Pennsylvania. They play hardcore. Then we have Smoke And Mirrors, which is another hardcore band from Pennsylvania. Next is Dissention, which is a St. Louis hardcore band which features one former member of Pound For Pound. Then we have another local metal band, Skywalker. Ready for a surprise? It looks like Scott Blacula have found their next match. Scott Blacula will be battling powerviolence band Smoke Coke from Champaign. Opening things up will be No Regrets from Chicago.

Wow! That’s a lot of heavy music. The festival will kick off at 3:30 pm and doors open at 3:00 pm. Admission is $8 for 10 bands. You can find a facebook event for The End Is Here Fest right here. You can also check our shows page too take a look at all the shows coming up at Black Sheep.

Black Sheep Fest 2013 Videos

Surprise! Today we are bringing you a couple of hidden gems that were recently uncovered from the aftermath of Black Sheep 2013 which happened last month. They are two short videos from the fest. The first is a short clip of Lovecow performing outside during part of their set earlier on in the day. Lovecow performed inside and then moved outside for the last two or three songs of their set. The second video is from the brutal battle set that happened between Scott Blacula and Emperor Norton. We are still not exactly sure who won the battle, but hopefully the video clears things up a little bit. Check out both videos below.

You can find our complete set of photos from Black Sheep Fest on our Black Sheep flickr set.

Dumb Fest Articles All Across America

tumblr_mqt1dfee1A1qel1kro1_1280Hey remember that crazy festival we had last June called Dumb Fest? And remember the great article that the State Journal Register did about the festival and punk music in Springfield? Well some of you may have forgotten the story but here we are later in the summer and the story of Dumb Fest is now sweeping the nation and touching the hearts and lives of many. Somehow that picture above ^^ got “tumblr famous” on the internet. We are not even exactly sure where the paper being pictured is located! Here’s another version of the article in an Indiana newspaper (which might have been recently taken down), and here’s another one online from some “Illinois news” site. You can find our original post on the Dumb Fest article here.

Dumb Fest happened June 14th and 15th earlier this summer. You can check out a bunch of pictures from the fest right here. Will there be a Dumb Fest next year?

War Magic: “Cyclomancy”

cover

On August 10th, a new secret was exposed to the Black Sheep world. Not very many people knew about the project War Magic, being composed of Alistair Reynolds and his brother Mark Lee Reynolds. They performed for the first time during this show, though this project has been going on for awhile.

The album Cyclomancy, according to Alistair, was named so in order to bring focus on the cycles of everyday life. Each song on the album somehow echoes the idea that everything comes full circle in the end. The way he put it was that this album is “an exercise in storytelling and concept within the theme of “Cycles”, This is done through the use of cool, mellow and rhythmic melodies so make sure to give it a listen!

Today we are bringing you a stream of War Magic‘s 5-song EP: Cyclomancy. You may remember a post we made earlier when Cyclomancy was just three songs. Today Cyclomancy is five songs, which completes the EP. Stream the songs on War Magic’s bandcamp here or below. The EP is also available for a name-your-own-price download on bandcamp. Be on the lookout for more War Magic shows coming up in Springfield!
