brandson

This December it looks like we’ve got some fine, heartwarming shows to distract us from the blustery midwestern winds. On Sunday the 8th, we’ll be featuring some rad folks. Brandon Carnes is a local character (also featured in The Timmys and Looming) that will be playing some mighty fine, backwoods, 666 Satan worshiping tunes. Michael Tietjen from the band Family Lumber will be playing as well and is going to be travelling solo. He’s all the way from New York and is sure to give us some swell acoustic tunes, so come check him out and give him some support. Jess Knight (also featured in Looming and Mother Leopard) will also be singing an acoustic set that is sure to be lovely as always. Austin Connelly (also featured in Wir Konnen and Montagh) is going to tell us jokes and sing us sad kid songs, so make sure to check him out as well as all of these other folks at this show!

This will be at 7 pm for $5 at the door. If you come, you’re sure to leave with a full heart so coming to this show is sure to be worth it. The facebook event can be found right here. Make sure to come out other upcoming shows we have at Black Sheep if you can make it!

This fall it looks like a brand new skate shop is opening up in Springfield. That is Empire Board Shop, a brand new skate shop located at 1037 Junction Circle (near the intersection of Wabash and MacArthur). We have been told that this new shop has some members of old Springfield punk band The Gunga Dins behind it, as well as some of those who help run Skank Skates right next to Black Sheep. There is still work being done to the inside of the shop right now, but it does look like they have a few boards and other products already in the shop for sale. You can follow the Empire Board Shop facebook page to stay updated on their progress.

All of you fans of skateboarding out there might want to also come out to the Skank Skates 15th anniversary show happening this Friday at Black Sheep and Skank Skates.

The End Is Here and the time for heavy death is now. Check out all these blackened metal and hardcore bands that are going to be playing in The End Is Here fest today! It’s going to be raw and heavy.

Pound For Pound is going to be playing their final show ever. Since 1999 these dudes have been bringing us some of the heaviest music around. Back in July it was announced that they had decided to wind things down after keeping things alive for so long. Today the day has finally come and the end for them is here, so come out to see their last show and listen to them live one last time.
Batallion is coming down from St. Louis to give us a brutal set. Come check them out and mosh till you drop.
Human Animal from Pennsylvania has some lake effect hardcore tunes. Get ready to get wild.
Smoke and Mirrors are coming from the exact same place as Human Animal and are sure to give us a rad set.
Dissention is coming from the hardcore scene in St. Louis. They’ve got a new line-up so come check it out!
Skywalker from central Illinois is going to give us some blast-beats and break downs so get pumped.
Meth Dealer from Decatur will be battling Table Drama (once known as Scott Blacula) to the death. This is Table Drama’s release show so come get their stuff and see who the final victor of this battle is.
No Regrets from Chicago will be playing positive-productive hardcore stuff so check them out.

This is at 3:30pm and the first band goes on at 4:00pm. It costs $6 and will definitely be worth your dough, especially since it’s Pound For Pound’s last show. Check out the facebook event here and brace yourselves because all these bands are going to give us a hell of a mini-fest! Check out what other awesome shows we have coming up at Black Sheep, then check out this video of Pound For Pound at their second to last show this past summer.

UPDATE: The show has now been pushed back to starting at 4:00 pm and admission is now $6. Even more reason to go!

12/13 at Black Sheep: Gnargoyle, Mystery Gift, Antithought, The Oswalds

oy

We are having TWO Friday the 13th shows this year! What’s the deal?! You may say “This is crazy talk” but it’s really not, so if you didn’t make it to the first one, make it to this one because it’s going to be swell. Our awesome Champaign friends are in a band called Gnargoyle that will give us some spooky sewer punk tunes coming from the darkness. It’s gonna be gnarly. Local band Mystery Gift will change it up a bit by showing us a more ethereal and grungy side of punk, so that’ll be cool to transition from the sewers to the clouds. After Mystery Gift is Antithought, a hardcore streetpunk band from St. Louis. Their set is sure to be rad! Make sure to check them out. Last but not least, we’ll be featuring The Oswalds, another set of local punkers! These guys must be shy since they don’t play alot, so come out and show them some support! This show is gonna be raw and real and cruddy so don’t miss it.

This will be on Friday the 13th, December, 2013. 12-13-13 is the closest our calendar can get from being 13-13-13 so this is obviously going to be a monumental day. We will celebrate it perfectly by putting this rad grime-fest of a show- so bring $5, show up at 7pm and slam your heart out. Until then, check out the facebook event and read up on our upcoming shows to see what’s coming up before and after this one.
