New Band Pages: King Worm

photo-1

Today we are bringing you a fresh new band page fresh out of the oven for a very nasty and smelly new punk band that slimed up from the gutters of Springfield. They are called King Worm, and had their very first show at Black Sheep this past weekend (pictured above). To check out their new band page and find out a little bit more about King Worm, go here.

Springfield has been recently exploding with new bands every minute. We have a hard time keeping up with every band, but you can see the current bands we have band pages for right here. If you play in a Springfield band that we do not yet have covered we would love to hear from you. Shoot us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Asthma, Akaname, Swamp Rat, Panzys, King Worm

lame

Check out this all local crud-fest we have going on tonight, it’ll really make you hurl chunks. The filthsters Asthma are going to remind you just how dirty you really are. Then, Akaname will majestically take the stage in a fit of classy skanking rage and then frolic away. Swamp Rat will ground you and make your bones wiggle and shake. Panzys reportedly will make you crave dog salad. For those of you who don’t know what that is, come find out! It may be vegan. Last but not least, new pop band King Worm will be taking the stage. May satan have mercy on our souls.

Come to Black Sheep at 7 and bring $5. All proceeds will be going to Blacksheep this evening to help cover the cost of trying to get a new heater! Yeah for modern living! Thanks to everyone for supporting black sheep, here’s the facebook event for tonight’s show. It’ll be a grand time!

Dumb Fest 2 is only two weeks away!! Where did the time go!? Since we are so close to Dumb Fest, we thought we would take the time today to highlight some of the bands playing who have recently released new material. You can find four different players below with brand new music from different bands playing Dumb Fest this year. First off is a new 7″ called Fun In The Sun by Chicago pop punk band The Valenteens. You can even pick that one up at Dumb Records. Up next is a little sneak preview along with a cool video for the new Black Panties flexi. You can also find a few copies of that flexi at Dumb Records. Then we have a player for the new Rüz flexi. Those were at Dumb Records, but are now sold out (sorry). Last but not least is the new 12″ from Chicago hardcore monster, Gas Rag. Get ready to break stuff.

Dumb Fest 2 of course is happening on Friday and Saturday June 13th and 14th at Black Sheep, Dumb Records, and Skank Skates. You can find the full lineup on our Dumb Fest 2 page or on the Dumb Fest facebook event.

Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show we have some very special and wormy guests. That is a new Springfield punk band called King Worm. You probably don’t know much about King Worm since their very first show is on Saturday at Black Sheep. Maybe if you listen to today’s episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show you will learn a thing or two about the band and decide to come to the show Saturday.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. You can also stream the show live online at wqna.org. Also be sure to check out our radio page for a long list of downloadable episodes from the past.

Tonight in South Town is our BIG summer kickoff and double slammer. There are TWO huge shows going on in South Town tonight- one at Black Sheep and one at Skank Skates. Let’s talk about the Black Sheep show first. Tonight at Black Sheep Jason Todd will be reuniting for a very special show. They were a metalcore band around from ’09-’11 and if you didn’t see ’em then this might be your only chance. Playing with Jason Todd is other Springfield/St. Louis powerhouse Battalion. Then we have Heavy Arms also from St. Louis, who played Dumb Fest 1 last year. Aside from those three, there will be a performance by post-hardcore band Loses The Mighty. Things will open up with a performance by acoustic and Battalion-related act Good Times. That show is starting at 6:00 pm and admission is $7. Find a facebook event for that one right here.

Let’s move over next door to Skank Skates and see what is happening over there! Over at Skanks we have a show starting at 7:00 pm and this one is going to cost $10. Why? Because we have big time Fat Wreck Chords band Masked Intruder on the bill! We are very excited to have them play in our town for this show. Stream some of their music below. Also on this show and just back from tour is Springfield pop punk band Hospital Job. Then we have long running punk band The Timmys to complete this short and sweet three-band punk show on the ramp. Find a facebook event for that one right here.

Sounds like a blast! Don’t forget that Dumb Records will also be open from 3:00 to 9:00 pm tonight so stop by and check out the store. Also head over to our shows page to look at all of the great things we have lined up for this summer.

Kowabunga! Kid, Carbonleak Added To Dumb Fest, Other Updates

Screen shot 2014-05-28 at 9.51.39 PM

With Dumb Fest 2 nearly two weeks away, we are bringing you a few small changes to the festival today and also a new addition. First of all, we are sad to announce that Times Beach from St. Louis will no longer be playing day 2 of Dumb Fest 2. Taking their spot on day 2 of Dumb Fest will be North Western Indiana post-punk band Carbonleak. Another slight inconvenience is that Chicago/Champaign project Easter is having to move from day 1 of Dumb Fest to day 2. To make up for all of this, Champaign fuzz punk band Kowabunga! Kid will be playing day 1 of Dumb Fest in place of Easter. You can check out some of Kowabunga! Kid’s tunes below.
