Special Record Store Day Episode Today on Black Sheep Radio Show

Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show we have a special episode lined up. Today will be a special Record Store Day edition of the radio show- where we just focus on Southtown record store Dumb Records and all of the special releases coming out for Record Store Day tomorrow. Our usual hosts Brandon Carnes and Mike Tirehaus will be joined by Brian Galecki and Miles Fowler of Dumb Records and they will all be unboxing all of the special releases coming to the store for Record Store Day (happening tomorrow). Dumb Records released the list of exclusive titles coming in for Record Store Day yesterday on our site. The store will be open tomorrow from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs today (and every Friday) from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM. You can tune in on your radio dial or listen to the show online at wqna.org. Also check out our radio page for a list of downloadable past episodes.

Tonight at The Radon Lounge: Sounds of Satellites, Red Sweater Lullaby, Honey/Suck, Hannah & The Drummer Boyz

Tonight is a Friday night and while there are no shows at Black Sheep tonight (we are all getting ready for Record Store Day tomorrow, and some of us are playing art shows in Jacksonville), there still is this awesome show happening in town at The Radon Lounge! The show tonight at The Radon Lounge features the band Sounds of Satellites from Orange County, California. You can check out some of their music on the player embedded below. Also on the show is Red Sweater Lullaby, a solo project of the drummer from Listener. These bands will be joined by local support from the spoken word project Honey/Suck. Opening things up is a performance by a brand new Springfield band called Hannah & The Drummer Boyz. Come early to find out what they are all about!

This Saturday (in just two days) is one of the biggest days of the year for Southtown record store Dumb Records and also record stores all across the globe. That is because Saturday is Record Store Day– an annual event dedicated to celebrating independently owned record stores. This year Dumb Records is an official Record Store Day store- as is Recycled Records located downtown Springfield. A lot of record collectors have been inquiring about what special releases Dumb Records will have for the big day- and tonight we are posting our list. The Thomas Nicholas Band: “Security” Music Video

This past weekend a hit new video for The Thomas Nicholas Band debuted on Punktastic.com and elsewhere all across the inter-webs. For those of you unfamiliar, Thomas Nicholas is an American actor who has played roles in films American Pie, Rookie Of The Year, and more. Thomas Nicholas currently tours in The Thomas Nicholas Band, also joined by some band members formerly from Springfield. The band just released the music video from their song “Security” which is the title track for their new album.

The video for “Security” was shot entirely all inside our home of Southtown- including shots inside of Black Sheep, Skank Skates, and Dumb Records. You can also spot out some familiar faces including Brandon Carnes, George Sinclair, and Jessica Knight. Check out the video below.

Black Sheep Roundtable Meeting Tonight

Tonight at Black Sheep we will be hosting the second of this year’s monthly roundtable meetings. The meeting will be taking place tonight at Black Sheep at 7:00 pm. Everyone and anyone is welcomed come, even if you feel you might not have anything to contribute. We plan on continuing our roundtable meetings on a monthly basis to discuss things we can do to improve our venue and music community.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Asthma, All People, Bad Banshee, NIGHT/HEX

Hey everyone, happy Monday the 13th. We have a nice wholesome show at Black Sheep tonight, so don’t even worry about deciding to hate today because now you have something to look forward to. The breezy cool and enjoyable electronic tunes of NIGHT/HEX, which can be streamed in the player below, will start the evening off. Also playing will be the local spa skunk goth kids in Bad Banshee to jazz up a huge storm and frizz our hair back into style. Next is a band you won’t want to miss called All People of Community Records, hailing all the way from New Orleans. They’ll be jamming out some soulful punky pop tunes to get us in the groove so make sure to give them a listen! Finally, Asthma will be playing some hardcore punker stuff to end this Monday night off in a blaze of love.

That’s that, so come out to the show! It starts at 7:00 pm and the door fee will be $5. Roundtable Meeting at Black Sheep This Wednesday, April 15th

The time has come to plan the next Black Sheep roundtable meeting, after a successful one took place last month. We plan on continuing our roundtable meetings on a monthly basis to discuss things we can do to improve our venue and music community. The next roundtable meeting will be help this upcoming Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us, even if you feel you don’t have anything to contribute to the discussion.

Wrest: Experimental Jazz at Dumb Records April 20th

420April 20th keeps getting cooler and cooler. We’re proud to announce the performance of Wrest, an experimental art trio from Pennsylvania. The trio’s features saxophone, drums and double bass focusing the creative aspects of improvisation, which is the act of performing music without prior preparation. Each Wrest performance is unique to that evening’s show. This will be a truly unique experience.

The show will start at 7:00 pm inside of Dumb Records. The door cover will be $8. If you are participating in the other events happening this evening, entry will be only $3. Be sure to keep up with this and other shows right here.

SOHO 11 Downtown Springfield June 5-7th, Black Sheep Stage June 6th

Since spring is here, it is time to start planning big time for all of those summer festivals- including all of the downtown festivals happening in downtown Springfield this summer. The lineup for SOHO 11 has just been announced, and will be happening on June 5th, 6th, and 7th. This SOHO is a special one because Black Sheep will be hosting our very own stage one day of the festival on Saturday, June 6th. This year the festival will once again be attempting to break the record for the world’s largest rock band (you can find more info on that right here). There are a lot of bands playing the festival this year, here are just the ones playing the Black Sheep stage on June 6th along with time slots:

Tonight at Black Sheep: Sirens, Uncertainties, The Beauty in Her Eyes, Portals, Noesis

10931602_10152957634785218_4689880413958885716_oIt’s Saturday! Tonight, Black Sheep will be featuring acts that range all over the hardcore spectrum, so check out this lineup. To start the night off will be Noesis, a metalcore band hailing from Central Illinois with a sound that will knock you out. To follow, Portals will be taking the stage to shake the dust off of the walls with their heavy jams. Also playing tonight will be The Beauty in Her Eyes, which is an emotional deathcore band coming from Bloomington, IL, whose music you can stream in the player below. Melodic and progressive hardcore band Uncertainties of Champaign will keep things going with their hardcore tunes to stir things up. Finally, the headliner tonight will be no one other than Sirens, coming all the way from Indiana to rock the place out with progressive metal jams that will end things off with a bang.

This show will be tonight at 7pm, with a door fee of $5. Make sure to support all of these touring bands, and stick around for the awesome sets they will be performing!
