King Worm: “Kill Pizza Punks” Music Video

Earlier this past week, Springfield hardcore/slimy punk band King Worm released a new hit music video for their hit song “Kill Pizza Punks.” The song “Kill Pizza Punks” was voted as the number one Springfield song of 2014 as part of our 2014 Black Sheep year-end poll. The music video was shot and edited by David Castor at an unknown location in Springfield. You can check out the video below.

“Kill Pizza Punks” comes from the band’s release No Future City, which was released last year on Ooey Gooey Tapes. You can stream all of No Future City right here.

May 31st at Black Sheep: Wir Können, I Before E, Itto, Naturally The Foundation Will Bear Your Expenses, Fel Fae

Happening on Sunday, May 31st at Black Sheep we have a great five-band show featuring a few bands from all over the country and a couple of locals. On this bill we have Springfield three-piece emo group Wir Können, who just played at Black Sheep yesterday as a part of our special Record Store Day show, which was a great success! On to the touring bands we have the slowcore band I Before E from Atlanta, Georgia. You can stream some of their music on the player below. Also on tour is Chicago-based screamo band Itto. Itto last played at Black Sheep as a part of Dumb Fest 2 last June. The third touring band on the bill is a band called Naturally The Foundation Will Bear Your Expenses from Omaha, Nebraska. And opening things up we have the new Springfield instrumental two-piece called Fel Fae.

Tonight at Black Sheep: The Convalescence, Kharybdis, Animus, Nethersphere, Noesis

Tonight at Black Sheep we have a metal show that will surely be more metal than we can even handle. Tonight we have five bands playing for $7. Tonight we have The Convalescence returning to Springfield from Toledo, Ohio. Last time they played at Black Sheep was last spring. Check out a video of the band live at the bottom of this post to see what they are all about. Also on this show is the return of local metalcore band Kharybdis. This will be the band’s first show of the year at Black Sheep, so let’s be there to welcome them back! Before that is the Taylorville, Illinois based metal band Animus. And before that is the Central Illinois-based “geek metal” band Nethersphere. Opening things up is another set by Noesis, who also played at Black Sheep at a show last weekend.

May 30th at Black Sheep: The Sites, The Oceanographers, Full Chroma, Full Mountain Damage

Coming up on Friday, May 30th we have a rock show happening at Black Sheep that you all should come to. For this show we have a band called The Sites coming from Pekin, Illinois. You can stream some of The Sites’s music on the player embedded below. We also have the surf/rock Peoria band The Oceanographers on the show. The Oceanographers are no strangers to Black Sheep, as they played here back in October. Next on the lineup is local Springfield rock group, Full Chroma, who will be sure to make you jump up and down. To complete the lineup we have another rock group from Mantino, Illinois called Full Mountain Force. Make sure to catch all four of these great bands!

Today at Dumb Records + Black Sheep: Record Store Day

RSD2015FLIER_2Today is one of the biggest days of the year for Southtown record store Dumb Records and also record stores all across the globe. That is because today is Record Store Day- an annual event set up to promote independently owned record stores and the culture around them. This year Dumb Records is an official Record Store Day store, and you can check out the list of exclusive releases that will be coming in from our post earlier this week right here. There will be plenty of exclusive releases available today, and in addition to that all non-RSD items are 10% off, plus every purchase comes with a free Dumb Records tote bag. Dumb Records is open today at 1107 South Grand East from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

There will also be a 3:00 pm, $5 show happening inside of Black Sheep today to go along with Record Store Day. For this show we have a newer Bloomington/Normal band called Unhappy Gilmore. We also have Champaign/Urbana emo group Slam Dinner, which features members of Soap Scum, and a few other familiar bands from the area. Also on the bill is pop punk group from Central Illinois – Horrible Things, who have not played a show at Black Sheep in over two years now. May 10th at Black Sheep: Vacation, Looming, Kowabunga! Kid

Coming up here on Sunday, May 10th we have an excellent three-band show happening at Black Sheep. For this show we have the experimental/fuzz-punk band Vacation coming out on tour from Cincinnati, Ohio. You can stream some of Vacation’s music below. In addition to Vacation, we have a couple of bands familiar to Black Sheep. We have local indie/pop band Looming on the bill and also the fuzzy punk band Kowabunga! Kid from Champaign- the last time both of those bands played at Black Sheep was for the March 25th Screaming Females show, which ended up being the most attended show we have had at Black Sheep so far this year!

Special Record Store Day Episode Today on Black Sheep Radio Show

Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show we have a special episode lined up. Today will be a special Record Store Day edition of the radio show- where we just focus on Southtown record store Dumb Records and all of the special releases coming out for Record Store Day tomorrow. Our usual hosts Brandon Carnes and Mike Tirehaus will be joined by Brian Galecki and Miles Fowler of Dumb Records and they will all be unboxing all of the special releases coming to the store for Record Store Day (happening tomorrow). Dumb Records released the list of exclusive titles coming in for Record Store Day yesterday on our site. The store will be open tomorrow from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Tonight is a Friday night and while there are no shows at Black Sheep tonight (we are all getting ready for Record Store Day tomorrow, and some of us are playing art shows in Jacksonville), there still is this awesome show happening in town at The Radon Lounge! The show tonight at The Radon Lounge features the band Sounds of Satellites from Orange County, California. You can check out some of their music on the player embedded below. Also on the show is Red Sweater Lullaby, a solo project of the drummer from Listener. These bands will be joined by local support from the spoken word project Honey/Suck. Opening things up is a performance by a brand new Springfield band called Hannah & The Drummer Boyz. Come early to find out what they are all about!

The Thomas Nicholas Band: “Security” Music Video

This past weekend a hit new video for The Thomas Nicholas Band debuted on Punktastic.com and elsewhere all across the inter-webs. For those of you unfamiliar, Thomas Nicholas is an American actor who has played roles in films American Pie, Rookie Of The Year, and more. Thomas Nicholas currently tours in The Thomas Nicholas Band, also joined by some band members formerly from Springfield. The band just released the music video from their song “Security” which is the title track for their new album.

The video for “Security” was shot entirely all inside our home of Southtown- including shots inside of Black Sheep, Skank Skates, and Dumb Records. You can also spot out some familiar faces including Brandon Carnes, George Sinclair, and Jessica Knight. Check out the video below.
