Dumb Records 2 Year Anniversary Show January 16th at Black Sheep

dumb2year2_web

We have some exciting stuff happening coming up in the new year, and on Saturday, January 16th we will be celebrating two whole years of Dumb Records being here in Southtown. To celebrate we will be having a show at Black Sheep. For this show we have the alternative/punk band boon on the top of the bill. Then we have a couple of touring bands from St. Louis. One of them is Carte de Visite, who have played here in Southtown a couple of years back once on the ramp of Skank Skates. You can check out their music streaming below. This time around Carte de Visite will be touring with a newer St. Louis band called Wow Wow Gold. And speaking of newer bands, this show will also be the very first for a brand new Springfield band called “Livin Thing,” which features members of King Worm, Soap Scum, GUSH, Teen Freak, and Asthma.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event right here. Dumb Records will also be open all day from noon to 9:00 pm. There will be a 15% off sale going on for every item in the store the whole day. Check out our shows page for a list of shows happening in Southtown in the next few months.

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 6.53.48 PM

It’s time to kick off our annual Springfield “Best of” Music poll for 2015 here on blacksheepspringfield.com! You are all invite to vote! Voting will go from now until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23rd.

VOTE HERE!!

This marks the fourth year we have done our Springfield local music year-end poll. Like the other three years, we are asking for your favorite shows, albums/releases, and songs by your favorite local bands. Don’t forget that this poll embodies all of Springfield music – not just limited to shows or bands that frequently play Black Sheep. Last year we added a suggestion box to the poll and got some interesting results, so we decided to do the same again this year. We will release the results from the top five in each category before the end of the year with little write-ups by our staff writers and other members of local bands. Check out the results from last year’s poll below:

Best of 2014 Springfield Albums/Releases
Best of 2014 Springfield Songs

Dumb Records at White Oaks Mall Today, Radon Lounge Christmas Explosion Tonight

tumblr_nz2n9ivCJB1sj9f9fo1_1280

Tonight there is nothing going on at Black Sheep, but we do have all sorts of holiday related things happening elsewhere around town. First off Dumb Records will be set up at White Oaks Mall all day today from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. The store will have a pop-up shop on the lower level of the mall right next to Santa himself (pictured above). If you find us and use the codeword “mynamekyle” you get 10% off your purchase! We’ve also made a last minute decision to have our regular location CLOSED today since most of our records are going to be at the mall.

Tonight there is also the Christmas Explosion at The Radon Lounge. There will be three acoustic acts performing. The first of which is Dan Smith who performs in the band Listener from Ohio. Also on the lineup is another solo act, Levi The Poet. Then kicking things off is Kris Rochelle from the band Red Sweater Lullaby, who also recently performed at Radon. In addition to music you can expect to find a potluck, various games, and coffee. The Christmas Explosion will begin at 6:30 pm and the show is $10. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. The Radon Lounge’s shows are all ages, and to find the address you have to inquire at radonlounge@gmail.com. Also check out a list of other Springfield shows outside of Black Sheep on our Springfield shows page.
