rockyhorrorwhat.jpg

Good evening! Just us dropping by to let you know what is happening at Black Sheep this weekend. There aren’t any actual shows until Tuesday, November 9th with the Pretend I’m Not There tape release show, but we are hosting a benefit event for the Absurdist People’s Theater Troupe. This is going to be a Rocky Horror Picture Show themed fundraiser. Come dressed as your favorite Rocky character if you so wish and there will be games to participate in and also food.

The fundraiser is $5 entry, and then we have been told there will be certain games set up for $1. This will go from 7:00 to 10:30 pm. Proceeds will be going towards The Absurdist People’s Theater Troupe and their next production and also to Black Sheep. Check out a facebook event for all of that right here. Also check out our shows page for a closer look at everything coming up at Black Sheep and Southtown this fall / winter.

Today we are bringing you new music from a newer Central Illinois-based metal band called Abolith. Abolith have debuted their first ever recorded song called “Idols” which you can stream on that youtube player below.

Abolith played one of their first shows at Black Sheep back in June. Currently they also have one show lined up at the Shumway Street Bar in Taylorville on November 19th, which does happen to be the same night as another show at The Radon Lounge and also the Black Sheep Band Lotto.

November 12th at Black Sheep: Toxic Womb, Gnargoyle, Starlorde, GRINN

It is looking like we don’t have a whole lot of shows lined up for November here at Black Sheep and Southtown, but we will say that the ones that we do have lined up are looking killer! This is one that is happening on Saturday, November 12th in just ten days. This show features the band Toxic Womb coming from Columbus, Ohio. Check out their music streaming on the player below. We also have the wacky Champaign/Urbana-based punk band Gnargoyle, who we have not seen in a minute. Gnargoyle also released a split recently with the infamous Springfield rash rock group Diaper Rash. Very cool. Up before that we have the space-themed Star Trek enthusiast band “Starlorde”. And opening things up we have hardcore project GRINN to put a smile on all of our faces.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. And of course be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up this fall/winter at Black Sheep.

Screen Shot 2016-10-30 at 1.23.46 PM.png

Today we bring you a video of touring Nashville ska-punk band Stuck Lucky performing at Black Sheep earlier this month. The video was from the show on October 6th along with Stereo Static, The Suction Cups, and Spooky Poo. You can check out the video of Stuck Lucky performing their song “Blood of Snakes” below. Also listen to the recorded version of the song on Stuck Lucky’s bandcamp page right here. *Little side tidbit: did you know that Stuck Lucky have played at Black Sheep four times now, all in the years 2007, 2014, 2015, and 2016? The first time was nine years ago! Wow!

Check out more videos shot at Black Sheep over the years on our vids/pics page.

It’s that time of year again and the results are up! For the Illinois Times‘s annual “Best Of’s” polls. It’s that time of year when some great local businesses, people, and bands are highlighted and then there are always those who don’t win and aren’t too happy about it! This year Black Sheep didn’t win first place for best music venue (congrats to Boondocks, but we are mentioned as a top finalist! We are also mentioned as a top finalist in the category of best hip hop venue! We are happy for any mention in the best of’s, so thank you Illinois Times and all who voted!

Check out the full Best Of’s results online right here, and specifically the Music and Arts section right here. We will also be doing our own Best Of 2016 on our site at the end of this year to highlight your top shows, songs, and releases that Springfield bands put out this year.Stay tuned for that!

14853135_1518320661528269_3987319357873796205_o.jpg

Calling all true weirdos and freaks, here is a hardcore punk show coming up at Black Sheep on Sunday, November 20th that we can all enjoy! Of course it is very cool for this show we have hardcore guitar explosion band that just won 4th place in The Illinois Times’s best “punk” band, Livin’ Thing. Then we have a couple of out of town bands. This includes Bad Example, touring through from Birmingham, Alabama. Bad Example are actually on the Ooey Gooey Tapes roster and you can stream their demo below. Then we have Chicago favorites The Bug, coming back to play after last being seen nearby Springfield in some sort of barn show during Dumb Fest 4-Ever. Opening things up is the galactic space hardcore band Starlorde, who actually have a new tape coming out for this show!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event right here. Also check to see what else we have coming up at Black Sheep this fall/winter on our upcoming shows page.

14883407_1316282538423110_3586838724792064103_o.jpg

Tonight! Happening at Bar None (yes, we know that is a picture of NIL8 inside Black Sheep above), the annual Hobgoblinspookadelic show put on by NIL8. This year is slightly special- this time around NIL8 is featuring their original lineup which includes front man Jeff Williams as standing vocalist instead of vocal/guitar duties. You can catch the band playing mostly material from their first few albums from the 1980’s and early 1990’s for a special set tonight. Stream a live recording from a past Nil8 Hobgob set below. Also on the bill is experimental punk band Boon, and 4th-place Illinois Times finalist band Livin’ Thing.

Tonight doors open up at 8:00 pm over at Bar None and music starts soon after. Admission is $5 and unfortunately this show is ages 21 and up (it’s at a bar, sorry)! Check out a facebook event right here and our Springfield shows page for a look at possibly some other Springfield shows coming up outside of Black Sheep.

14567445_1363134227049799_8972542622057502046_o.jpg

Tonight is going to be a pretty big night for Southtown and The Black Sheep community as we get together for the final show of local band Our Lady. Our Lady has been active since 2009/2010 and has gone through many lineup changes, have been continuously touring the country, and have put out a number of releases throughout the years including three on vinyl. Tonight they will be playing one last final show at Black Sheep. Their final album Lure also just recently came out and you can find that streaming on the player below. The band should have copies of the new album at the show. Also playing this show is a few other bands that Our Lady have toured with in the past. This includes Lume from Chicago who will be playing tonight. It also includes Louisville Kentucky’s The Foxery, who we hear have recently changed their name to “Pleasures of the Flesh.” Starting things off is Estates from Milwaukee, who are no strangers to the Black Sheep stage.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm tonight and admission is $7. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this fall/winter.
