openmicflier_2.jpg

We all had a great time at the Black Sheep Holiday Show last night, and great seeing Brandon Carnes rock it with his big F*&#///\\\Mountain project once again. Now it’s time for us to tell you about the next show we have coming up at Black Sheep- it’s an open mic happening next weekend. This open mic is already jam packed with artists and musicians. It starts at 6:00 pm and goes until 9:00 pm so that some of us can get over to a show at Bar None later that night. Let’s take a look at the schedule:

8:45 – 9:00 = Nighthawk
8:30 – 8:45 = DB Cooper
8:15 – 8:30 = Ian Winterbauer
8:00 – 8:15 = Zach Goriszewski
7:45 – 8:00 = Jeff Williams
7:30 – 7:45 = Nathan Powers
7:15 – 7:30 = Jessica Knight
7:00 – 7:15 = Jordan Durham
6:45 – 7:00 = Heptanes
6:30 – 6:45 = (keeping open to be claimed at the show)
6:15 – 6:30 = Emma Wilson
6:00 – 6:15 = Andrew Marshall

Wow! As you can see, looks like this open mic has turned into a solid show. Featuring Emma Wilson who was recently our guest on The Black Sheep Radio Show, also Jeff Williams of NIL8, the return of Jessica Knight of Looming, hip hop from DB Cooper, and also closing with a rare on stage Nighthawk performance. We just have one slot left open to be claimed the day of the show.

The open mic starts right at 6:00 pm (early) and for admission we are just collecting donations of anywhere between one and five dollars. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Our good friend Jeremie Bailey who hangs out on the Dumb Records couch and does the creative content podcast and vlog – “Lincoln’s Legends” has recently featured a few interviews and videos worth noting! First one is an interview with Mario Cannamela of Southtown Sound– the new Southtown recording studio that is launching early 2017 if everything goes as planned with their kickstarter campaign. You can check out that video interview below. For those of you who do not know, the Black Sheep Holiday Show happening tonight is also a benefit for the new studio.

The second video below that is a walkthrough of Downtown Springfield Inc.‘s “Holiday Walks” featuring Downtown Springfield director Lisa Stott. Also in the video you can spot a segment with a pop-up art shop on the old State Capitol Square put together by Clare Frachey of Black Sheep. You can find that video on the bottom. For more Lincoln’s Legend videos check out the Lincoln’s Legends youtube channel.

Black Sheep Holiday Show + Benefit for Southtown Sound Tonight

thanksdon

We have a very special night lined up in Southtown tonight! Tonight will be the annual Black Sheep Holiday Show! Bring that egg nog, hot chocolate, and Christmas cheer if you have any. If you don’t like any of that holiday or Christmas stuff you can come too. Tonight is going to be a great return of our friend Brandon Carnes and also a benefit for the new recording studio coming to Southtown – Southtown Sound. That’s right, tonight we have the one and only ambient solo project of Brandon: F///\\\M, whose music you can find streaming below. We also have the new hit Springfield indie/punk/pop band Attic Salt on the bill which we are excited about. Up before that is the incredible noise artist “Emasculate Regression.” Then opening things up we have the debut of a brand new Springfield band put together by Mario Cannamela- called “Roman Candle Drive By” or “Christmas Cannamela” or something like that.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and go quick so that some of us can get over to the NIL8 show happening at Bar None. Admission is $5 and a good portion of proceeds will be going towards with Southtown Sound kickstarter. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

The Studio Show: Season 2 Finale

Screen Shot 2016-12-22 at 8.10.50 PM.png

As sad as we are to see the second season of The Studio Show come to an end so quickly- we have to also say that those of us at Black Sheep headquarters are BLOWN AWAY by this finale of another successful season of the Springfield-based web series. The Studio Show kicked off their first season at the beginning of this year and have since completed another season, featuring regular hosts Arlin and Keil interviewing and exploring local Springfield artists, musicians, and community events.

In the final episode, which totals a little over 37 minutes long, you can find a breathtaking segment of drone footage from all over Springfield (pictured above). Also interviews with representatives of Downtown Springfield Inc., and an interesting musical guest Jeff Williams of NIL8. Also catch some guest appearances by Jeremie Bailey of Lincoln’s Legends and also Brian Galecki again as a “Go-lacky.” Check out the new episode below, and also head over to The Studio Show’s Youtube Channel for all videos and past episodes.

Also notable is that The Illinois Times featured an article covering the show today which you can find right here. Also Rachel and Scott from The Scene covered The Studio Show on WUIS which you can listen to right here. Along with this season finale, it looks like The Studio Show team have announced they are putting the show on hold for some time and will likely be focusing efforts on different things in the future.

It’s Friday so today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm as always we have another exciting episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show! This week there are once again multiple guests fit into our two hour time slot to make for a great episode. There are no shows at Black Sheep tonight, but there IS the “Christmas Explosion” going on at The Radon Lounge. To represent that we have The Dandelion Pickers (pictured above) coming in to the studio to talk about what to expect at The Radon tonight, and we might even have them attempt to play a song or two live for us in the studio. Our second guest is local poet Emma Wilson. Emma is one of the creative minds behind season 2 of The Studio Show which is also gearing up for a season finale within this next week. We will get to talk to Emma about that and some other things.

Check out our show from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on WQNA 88.3 FM. Stream it live online the same time at wqna.net. Also head over to our radio page for a look at some downloadable episodes of the past.
