New Dumb Records Enamel Pins + Online Merch Store Relaunch

Some of you that were around for our earlier years at the original location might have remembered a brief moment in time where we had Dumb Records enamel pins with our old logo. Well… we have been wanting to make more with the new logo for a while now, and that time has finally come! We have our drippy record logo enamel pins available in the store for $4.00! But also, they are now available online along with a NEW simple and revamped online store we set up for some of our Dumb Records merch items right here at dumbrecords.bigcartel.com! Fun! On this version of our online store, you can only find five items including some of our recent shirt designs, enamel pins, and a sticker bundle deal. We are keeping things simple this go-around, there is no option for in-store pickup (sorry, this time it’s geared more for out of towners for us to ship stuff to because that is what makes the most sense for us right now)! Our online store with records and CDs is still setup through Discogs here.

October 20th at Dumb Records: Constraint, Discourage, Flash Back, Gates To Hell, Prevention, Penalty Box

Holy smokes, are we really ready for a show with six bands on it right now? We are not sure, but we’ve got a little bit of time to practice our mosh moves and get ready for this one, which is going to be happening on Wednesday, October 20th at Dumb Records.

This one features heavy hitting Louisville, Kentucky hardcore band “Constraint.” You can stream their latest album Nerf Planet embedded on the player below. Looks like Constraint is going to be touring with Discourage coming all the way from California (and also playing hardcore music)! Ope, looks like we have another Louisville band and that is “Gates To Hell.” There’s even a band from Canada on here called Flash Back??? We have bands coming in every direction for this show! Of course we also have Prevention on the bill – and then also is the very first show for a brand new Springfield hardcore band called Penalty Box!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $10. Check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a list of everything we have announced and lined up.

“Artists In Harmony” at Anvil & Forge August 27th + 28th

Here is a thing coming up next weekend downtown that we feel important tom mention here on our site! SonnyD Artistry is teaming up with Anvil & Forge and DIM Art House and us(?) to present “Artists In Harmony” – a weekend long music and art event at Anvil & Forge on Friday and Saturday August 27th & 28th! Taken from the facebook event:

There’s nothing like a cool collaboration to bring about harmony! SonnyD Presents The POP! Life & DIM Art House are teaming up for “Artists In Harmony” at Anvil & Forge Brewing. This two night themed showcase will feature musically inspired original artwork, as well as live performances from 20 local acts on multiple stages. The premise being to exhibit the undeniable coalition between music & visual arts. You won’t want to miss the one of a kind vinyl Dumb Records wall & all of the other surprises we have in store. So, pop on out to Anvil for this fun music/art mashup & celebrate our first big show of the year! Open call artists & musicians may contact Sonya Sanders Dilley or Jeff Curtis Williams for all participation info & keep an eye on this event page for updates as they develop.

Then the schedule is so jam-packed with performers, it is too many for us to list off! We’ll just go ahead and post the schedule here, also taken from the facebook event:

Wowza! Also yes, this event does occur at the same time as our free Laura Jane Grace show in our alleyway. That is okay though – our show will likely start at 7:00 pm on Saturday and get over around 9:30 pm, so the Artists In Harmony event will still be going on and can act as the aftershow to our event (especially for those who are looking to go to a bar downtown).

Today Downtown: Open Streets 2021

Oh shoot – today is open streets day here downtown! Who’d of thought! It’s actually going on right now! That’s right – from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm you can do whatever you want in the streets here downtown. You can do backflips, or skateboard in the streets. This year the area that is blocked off is different than previous years. Monroe Street in front of our store is NOT blocked off, instead the area more behind us – between 4th and 5th streets and between Capitol and Edwards is. That is pretty much around the entire “Y-Block” where the Levitt AMP Concert Series was held.

For more info, head on over to the Downtown Open Streets facebook event right here, or downtownspringfield.org!

September 18th at Dumb Records: Grey Slush, The Telephone Junkies, Hushpad

…And here’s another show announcement! Sorry! This one is happening on Saturday, September 18th at our space around one month from now. At Dumb Records – “the name to remember for performance and value”! For this show we have “Grey Slush” – Grey Slush is an indie rock group from Peoria Illinois! You can stream their debut EP on the player embedded below. For this show we also have the return of The Telephone Junkies! Telephone Junkies put out an album last year and it’s great. Looks like opening things up we have the Lincoln, Illinois-based shoegaze project Hushpad.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here (be careful, we just made it so it’s hot and fresh out of the oven). Also check our shows page on our site for a list of all three shows we have lined up right now.

And, as things continue to be uncertain with rising cases of COVID-19 in our area – it is safe to say that we will be checking for proof of vaccines at this show and requiring masks as well.

September 13th at Dumb Records: Blind To Life, Split, Prevention

Here we go… we are announcing another show to be happening inside our space! This one is going to be happening on Monday, September 3rd. It features just three bands, and it’s a short and sweet hardcore show.

This one just features one touring act and that is “Bliind To Life.” They are from Colorado Springs, Colorado and you can stream their newest two-song release on the player embedded below. We also have the band “Split’ coming from St. Louis. This was a very hard band to find on the internet, but we finally found them and their music is online right here. Prevention (from here in Springfield) is playing as well, we are not sure if Prevention is opening, closing the show, or playing right in the middle, so you better be there for all of it!

This show will begin at 7:00 pm and admission this tie around is $7 (bring your cash). Find a facebook event for this one right here. We certainly hope our region and country is in a better place in terms of rising cases of COVID-19 by the time of this show, but we will likely be checking proof of vaccines and requiring masks at this one once again.
