September 16th at Black Sheep: 12 Year Anniversary Show + Stick People / Bottom Bracket CD Release

12YEARSHOW_web.jpg

Today we have a fun and happy show to tell you about happening next month at Black Sheep! It’s our 12 year anniversary show happening on Saturday, September 16th, celebrating a whole entire dozen years of Black Sheep as an all ages music venue in Springfield starting in 2005. It’s been a wild ride, but we’ve made it this far and plan on keeping on for as long as we can! Check out our Black Sheep history page with a lot of important dates right here.

This show will also be an important one because it is going to be the CD release shows for both Stick People and Bottom Bracket. These will both be some of the first releases that Southtown Sound has been working on for quite some time that are finally going to be released to the public. Expect some sneak peaks from those EPs/albums sometime between now and this show! Also playing this special show is our old friends Sammy & The Punk who have been rocking and rolling in the city for a few years now. Also Prowess, the fart bomb punk band, and Kate Ridge (or Kate Laine) – wonderful acoustic solo act.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future!

Today we are bringing you a new band page for a newer Springfield metal band called “Eyes From Above.” Check out their new page right here where you can find out more about the band or stream their demo recording.

We count a total of 54 current band pages we now have set up on our site, which you can check out right here. Do you play in a local band or are a musician who has not set up a page with us yet? Email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to get something set up!

Our Website 5 Years Old Today

BLACKSHEEP_spring16_1.jpg

Could you believe it, our website – blacksheepspringfield.com was launched on this very date exactly five years ago (August 7th, 2012). At that point the very idea of a record store, recording studio, Dumb Fest, and many other project had not even been born yet. Check out our Black Sheep history page to see more of a timeline on how much we’ve come along over the years. Here’s to another five more years of pumping out more content on Springfield local music and shows!

Thanks to all who came out to Black Sheep Fest this past weekend! We’ll be back later tonight with an announcement for a Black Sheep 12 year anniversary show in September!

Blacks, Whites, and Blues Festival Happening Saturday and Sunday in Southtown

20158009_253207181837962_7441079042087259918_o.jpg

Our Neighbors across the street at Bourbon Street Rhythm and Ribs put on an annual festival at the end of the summer every year. This year they are stepping it up a notch and are teaming up with a new organization to host “Blacks, Whites, & Blues Festival” – an annual festival focusing on “providing the community with information on education, career opportunities, health and safety while showcasing local talents in entertainment.”

Yes, Blacks, Whites, & Blues Festival will be going on at the same time as Black Sheep Fest happening tomorrow – which isn’t that bad because this means you can check out both events! There will also be plenty of food for sale at Blacks, Whites, and Blues Festival. One downside though is that 11th street will be closed off in front of our direct lot, limiting access to our Black Sheep parking lot. Bands playing Black Sheep Fest will have to come in to our lot through the alley!

Some of the band schedule for Black, White, and Blues Festival can be seen on their website right here. Their festival also features a car show, games and activities, and more. Southtown Construction and Training and Bone L.L.C. across the street from Dumb Records are also involved as a sponsor. So this weekend the whole neighborhood has something going on!

Check out a facebook event for Blacks, Whites, & Blues Festival right here.

Southtown Sound Dumb Fe5t Compilation

20403348_10213216434753166_988184224_n

Many of you may have forgotten that during Dumb Fe5t (now over one month ago), Southtown Sound was not necessarily opened up as a show space but instead they were in their own corner of our neighborhood working away recording countless bands for a special project. Today we are releasing that compilation of songs that were recorded as live tracks throughout that entire weekend – 15 songs from 15 different bands who all played this past year at Dumb Fe5t. Stream that entire compilation on the player below. Also head over to the Prescience Tapes bandcamp page to download the entire compilation at your own price. Prescience Tapes will be releasing a physical format of the comp which will hopefully be available on cassette at Black Sheep Fest and also at Dumb Records.

Now that the Dumb Fe5t compilation is out there, and more non-live recordings are on the way (from Bottom Bracket, Stick People, and more)- you can expect a big update from us on what Southtown Sound has been up to some time next week!
