Tonight at Black Sheep: Livin’ Thing, Kagedama, Undone

Hello and welcome to Sunday! Tonight we have show number 4 in our 5 day streak of shows happening at Black Sheep. This one is going to be a hardcore show featuring just three bands. This includes this sludgy band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin called “Kagedama.” You can check out some of their music on the player below to hear what they are all about. Also on this show is the amazing stretch-suit rock band Livin’ Thing coming at ya from right here in the capitol city. Opening things up is the talented hardcore / swing band Undone.

Monday at Black Sheep: The Jïg, Pryss, Prowess, Kira Jari

Oops, look at what goofs we are – we forgot to get an announcement post up for the last show of the five-day show streak that we are in the middle of right now. This one is happening this Monday, August 21st in just two days. Would you believe it, that is the same day as the solar eclipse hitting our area at around 1:00 pm. Come to this show after you get all eclipse’d out from earlier in the day. This one features the return of The Jïg from Indiana. Last time they played here was the fall of 2015. Check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Also on this show is Pryss – who just finished up a ten day long tour to Texas, Colorado, and more. Come out and welcome them home. We also have local band Prowess stirring things up in the pit. Opening things up we’ve got another touring act from Denton, Texas called “Kira Jari” featuring members of other bands that have performed at Black Sheep before.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Death Card, Rig Time!, Barren, A Treachery Untold, The City The Ruins, Polterguts

Yes, we did just have a HUGE show last night at Black Sheep and it was incredible, but the shows don’t stop there and we are going to keep it going tonight! Tonight will features a six band metal show inside Black Sheep featuring plenty of acts from all over. The big one on this bill is “Death Card” hardcore metal band from Nashville, Tennessee. Stream one of their songs on the player embedded below. Death Card is touring with a three band touring package which also includes “Rig Time!” from Wisconsin. Get ready for lots of rigs. Also on that tour is Barren from Arkansas. This time around we have local support from three other bands including Polterguts from St. Louis. We also have “A Treachery Untold” and “The City, The Ruins” opening things up both from the Central Illinois area.

Tonight at Black Sheep: MU330, NIL8, The Timmys

Tonight sure is a big night at Black Sheep! We have a mega huge show going on tonight featuring THE MU330 from St. Louis, Missouri. MU330 started in 1988 and frequently played in Springfield in the 1990’s at venues such as Veile’s Planet and Off Broadway. Last time they performed in Springfield was sometime between 1998-1999. This is also an exciting time because MU330 released their first new material in 15 years yesterday which you can check out on the player below! Also on this show is Springfield punk grand papa band NIL8… last time they played at Black Sheep was Halloween of 2015! Opening things up is The Timmys who are now celebrating two whole decades of being a band together. Did you know their first show was in 1997 right here in Springfield on a show with MU330?

The show tonight kicks off right at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission is $15 – you do not have to have ordered a ticket in advance to come!! The show is all ages of course. Tonight at Black Sheep: Droids Blood, Starlorde, Evan Mitchell

The summer is coming to a close, and we have a mega 5-in-a-row show BLOWOUT these next few days starting tonight. The show tonight will go fast – it just features three punk bands and we are starting things at 8:00 pm. The one big time Springfield band on the bill is Starlorde – or are they from another planet? Hmmm… The touring act on this bill is Droid’s Blood from Chicago. Droid’s Blood features members of a good number of bands that have performed at Black Sheep before including Broken Prayer, Sputter, and more. Check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Since we’ve announced the show, The Dry Look has dropped off the bill (whoops). Opening things up we have a rare performance by solo punk act Evan Mitchell from Taylorville, IL. Hi Evan.

August 27th: Open Mic at Dumb Records

It seems like we haven’t really been able to get an open mic squeezed into our busy schedule at Black Sheep this summer – now that things are clearing up at the end of August we are going to be able to fit one in on Sunday, August 27th in about ten days. The Dumb Records open mic of course is open to all different types of performers- from poetry and spoken word to music to magic acts. To claim a 15 minute slot, check out the facebook event right here, email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com, or just show up to the event and you will be fine!

The open mic starts at 7:00 pm and goes until 10:00 pm. Dumb Records is located at 1107 South Grand Ave. East. There’s also a 25% off sale for all items going on during the event! This week our featured band/artist is Kate Laine! Also known as Kate Ridge, Kate has been performing at Black Sheep and for about a year now, and has been making music since 2013. Nefarious Cloud: “Cinnamon Toast Crunch”

Ever wonder why so many kids just love the taste of Kellog’s brand cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Well today local Springfield hip hop artist Nefarious Cloud is going to explain it to us on this site, through his new hit song and music video “Cinnamon Toast Crunch.” This video, shot and directed by Jayy Wills Entertainment, features a few stunt doubles and fast moving vehicles in the streets of our very own city. You can check it out below. The taste you can see!

Glower: “Fish Hook” + “Smile To Forget Me” Demos

Today we bring you a couple of new demo tracks from a new project that popped up earlier this summer featuring a new Springfield duo of Kate Ridge (Kate Laine) and Kiki Walker of Moondead, Bad Banshee, etc. The project is called “Glower” and they have played at least one live show over at Bar None downtown in the past few months. You can check out two demo songs they have released – “Fish Hook” and “Smile To Forget Me” on the players below. Also head over to the Glower bandcamp page to download the songs for $1.
