After our doing our *exclusive* full album stream of Looming’s new album Seed this past week, we want to make sure we keep that *exclusive* content coming in hot on our website right here. Today we bring you a brand new exclusive track from Springfield solo artist Kate Laine. This is a brand new song called “Folding” – which comes from a new album Kate has coming out on October 14th called Recurring Dream (artwork pictured above). The album was recorded here in Southtown at Southtown Sound. This track also features Mario Cannamela (Bottom Bracket, Livin’ Thing) on guitar.

Kate will be performing two shows in the area to coincide with the album’s release. One of which is on Saturday, October 14th in Curran, Illinois at Trails End. The other is on Friday, October 20th at Bar None. The album will also be available on CD at Dumb Records starting October 14th.

Timothy Donavan Russell: “Interconnections”

Springfield solo ambient artist Timothy Donavan Russell is at it once again, this time with his seventh release to come out this year. Wow. This time around it’s a mashup album, or “samplecore.” From the description on Timothy’s bandcamp page:

An ultimate samplecore album. Nearly 300 pop/rock samples went into the making of this. None of them were harmed, though some were stretched and/or transposed. Play a game and guess the sources; download the official sample guide; etc.!

[All music originally composed to play in the background at “Interconnectivity”, a group art exhibition that took place in Springfield, Illinois at The Pharmacy Gallery & Art Space on September 8th & 9th, 2017.]

There you have it, you can check out Interconnections in its entirety below. Wow, it’s a whole twenty tracks! Also head over to Timothy’s bandcamp page to download the album for free.

We have our Springfield album archive page set up to list off releases that came out in town this year and also of years past. Enjoy!

Lineup for Black Sheep Battle of the Bands on October 14th

justthebattle_lineup.jpg

TWO weeks from today on Saturday, October 14th the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands will be taking place – a little different this year since we are doing things in October instead of in the summer. As usual, two winners will be chosen – one picked from a panel of judges to receive a free demo recording at Southtown Sound recording studio behind Black Sheep. The other crowd voting award will be given a slot on a bigger show coming up later this year, possibly the Black Sheep Holiday Show? We have a whole seven acts lined up this year, here they are:

PUFF PUFF POSEIDON
MASTER BASTARD
COOP DE GRACE
ROCKFORD
13LISS
HANNAH SONGER
NIKO ROBLEDO

There you have it, 3 of those are solo projects and 3 are full bands, one might be some sort of electronic duo(?). ALL of these are new to the Black Sheep stage, which is very cool! Puff Puff Poseidon is based out of Decatur, Coop De Grace is based out of Carlinville, the rest are based out of here in Springfield. (Maybe Hannah Songer is back and forth between here and Bloomington). Let’s all come out and support these new up and coming acts and see what they have to offer!

Since there are so many acts on the battle now, it will be starting at 6:00 pm. Admission for those not performing is $5. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

October 7th at Black Sheep: Scary Movie Night

21586621_1443155429109343_851735880831238451_o.jpg

Hey it’s more new and exciting stuff! A lot of you have suggested that we try movie showings inside Black Sheep. At the start of the summer we were trying this on Monday nights with a VCR, projector and a giant bed sheet. They went ALRIGHT. Now with October right around the corner it only seems appropriate that we try another movie night and make it a spooky one. So on Saturday, October 7th (one week from tomorrow) we will be hosting a “Scary Movie Night” in Black Sheep. We will likely be playing two movies, with the first starting at 7:00 pm. You can vote on a few options of which movies will be playing on the facebook event right here.

Again, that starts at 7:00 pm, find a facebook event right here. The flier may say “3 dollars” but we are going to go ahead and say that this is a donation-based movie night. Anything goes! Check out our shows page to look at what else is coming up this fall right here.
