Hey what’s up, it’s been a minute since we’ve had any hip hop shows at Black Sheep and what do you know there are going to be TWO of them before this month is over with! The first of which is going to be a rock / rap hybrid show and we are very excited for it. Happening on Monday, March 19th we are happy to welcome touring national artist Juiceboxxx into Black Sheep as he performs with his full backing band. Juiceboxxx has been a touring rap artist for over a decade now. You can stream his newest album on the player below. Also on this show is a return of the rock n’ roll band Livin’ Thing. Up before that is local hip hop artist Animals With Human Names. Opening things up right now is a brand new rap artist based out of Springfield – Dennis DNO.

Open Mic Tonight at Dumb Records

We have a pretty full schedule lined up tonight, and we also encourage anyone looking to perform to come out as well and we can get something worked out. Four New Songs From The Little Death

Springfield alternative rock group The Little Death have released four new songs on their bandcamp this year. The band formed at the end of last year and feature members of former pop punk group Fill In The Blank as well as others. Check out each of those four songs streaming on separate players at the bottom of the post.

The Little Death will be performing at Black Sheep one week from today along with another rare performance by the band Vonne. More info on that show can be found right here.

March 11th at Black Sheep: Comedy Night

Have you ever been one to ask us: “have you guys ever tried hosting comedy shows?” or have said “you guys should host a comedy show, I would go to that”. The answer is YES we have done a few, and guess what we have one coming up next weekend on Sunday, March 11th! We have a comedy show featuring touring comedic acts Dan Alten and Brandon Judd, who have helped us set up a few comedy shows in the past. Here’s the full line up of comedy acts for that date, including a few that you may already know and love:

Black Sheep and Dumb Records Runners Up In State Journal-Register’s Readers Choice Awards

What do you know, we did not realize that our businesses here in Southtown were big in the running in the State Journal-Register‘s Readers Choice Awards of 2018 until just now. Voting goes from now until March 6th, so you have just three days to vote for your favorite local businesses, bands, and people in these fun categories.

This time around Black Sheep is in the running for “Best House Band Venue” and Dumb Records is in the category of “Best Music Store”. You can find both of those in the “Entertainment and Recreation” and “Shopping” sections. Find a poll to vote for and nominate your favorite local band and musician in the Entertainment and Recreation section as well.

March 10th at Black Sheep: Vonne, Little Death, Marble Teeth, Telephone Junkies, Clementine

Keeping the March show announcements coming! By the way, we just updated the shows page on our site and our March calendar is looking pretty intense! Good luck out there! This one is happening exactly one week from today on Saturday, March 10th. We have the band Vonne performing once again! The band reunited for The Black Sheep Holiday show back in December after not performing together for more than a year. Is the band reunited for good? Probably not. This show also features Springfield band The Little Death. Then we have Marble Teeth from Decatur, Illinois. Marble Teeth is the solo project of Caleb formerly of the duo “Spooky Poo” that played a number of times at Black Sheep before. Check out some of that new project’s music on the player below. We also have Telephone Junkies, the heavy-hitting and young indie rock band that everyone has been raving about. Opening things up is Clementine – the new solo project of Clare Frachey.

Today on Black Sheep Radio: Marbin

We do have some special guests coming in on The Black Sheep Radio Show to talk to us and that is the entire band Marbin who will be performing at The Black Sheep tonight! Marbin kicks off at Black Sheep at 8:00 pm and they are the only band lined up for the entire night. We have been promised that all of our faces will be melted off. Join us on our radio program today as we talk to Marbin about what they are all about, as well as play plenty of music from your favorite local groups.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Marbin

We do have a show lined up for you all happening tonight! It’s a little different than our normal show setup because we just have one band performing for the night. That is Marbin – the progressive jazz-rock fusion band from Chicago. You can stream one of Marbin’s songs on the player below to hear more of what they are all about. We hope you all are ready to get your faces melted tonight.

This show is also a little bit different because there are advance tickets being sold. The show is $12 in advance and $15 at the door (all ages still of course). It’s March! Ahh! It’s pretty much spring so that means we are going to start piling the show announcements, starting with this one coming up real quick. This is a week night show happening on Thursday, March 8th in less than a week. For this show we have the band Monterrey coming from North West Indiana. You can stream their music on the player below to see if you like what you hear. They will be joined by local rock band from right here in Springfield – Master Bastard. Then also another band from Jacksonville, Illinois – Famous Losers. Great to see all of these bands from Jacksonville lately! Opening things up is Mike Butler formerly of the band Vonne. Come hear Mike’s beautiful voice.

Graveswitcher: “Graveswitcher”

Today we are happy to bring you the debut demo of a new Springfield band that has not yet even played their first show called “Graveswitcher”. You can check out their new six-song self titled demo on the player below. Also head over to the band’s bandcamp page to download the release at your own price. The band features members of countless other Springfield bands including Moondead, Soap Scum, Livin’ Thing, Bottom Bracket, Prowess, Looming, and more.

Graveswitcher does have one show currently lined up in Springfield and that is one coming up on Monday, March 26th at Springfield house basement venue “CFP.” More info on that can be found right here.
