It’s a beautiful Saturday, we have one show happening at Black Sheep that weekend and that is tonight! This show is being set up by some friends as a benefit to help Luna with transitional funds, which more info can be found on this GoFundMe page. We have quite the lineup of local bands for this. First off we have Garter, who have not played a show since a couple of months back. Check out their music streaming on the player below. We also have the official Illinois State Capitol band- Shark Week. Before that we have the three-piece experimental punk band Moondead. And just in case you can’t get enough of those Suction Cups after they just played last night, they will also be playing this show, and it looks like Hannah Tolan of The Stuction Cups will be doing a solo set as well.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a complete list of all of the shows coming up at Black Sheep this spring and summer.

It’s Friday and there are no shows lined up at Black Sheep tonight! We heard a rumor there might be some noise coming from South Town Studio upstairs but that’s about it. We do have The Black Sheep Radio Show happening from 4 to 6 pm, and today we have a very special episode lined up for you all. Our guests this week will be Arlin Peebles and Keil Isham of the new Springfield youtube series / TV Show – The Studio Show. We will be joined by Keil and Arlin at least in the second half of our program to talk about how the show has been going and what their plans are for the future. The show is also getting ready for its season finale.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. You can tune in on your radio dial or listen live online at wqna.net. Also check out our radio page for more info and some downloadable episodes from the past.

The Illinois Times: “Making Springfield Look Cool” [The Studio Show]

cover_01.21451.jpg

New Springfield TV show and youtube channel “The Studio Show” continues to go hard into new episodes and is getting more and more coverage as they go along! You may have noticed the show made it to the front of The Illinois Times this week with the article “Making Springfield Look Cool” by Scott Faingold. From the article:

Comedy is only part of the reason “The Studio Show” exists. The program, described memorably by Isham in one episode as “something special and unique and heartfelt and community-oriented,” is indeed a one-of-a-kind showcase for the city of Springfield as a place where creativity flourishes. The first several episodes feature interviews with a variety of area artists, including painters Jeff Williams and Amanda Greive, sculptor Michael Dunbar, cartoonist Brett James Freeman and poet Shatriya Smith. In addition, musical guests have included regional talent ranging from the close-harmony folk-pop of the Deep Hollow to the raw garage rock of SAP to the hip-hop stylings of Deezy Da Paperboy.

You can check out the full article in this week’s copy of The Illinois Times or head over to the Illinois Times website where you can view the full thing right here.

In addition to the article, The Studio Show also released their tenth episode last week, which you can find streaming below. The episode features local artist Michelle Smith and a new musical duo called “Cri8” (featuring one member of NIL8). Also head over to The Studio Show’s youtube page for a good look at all of the episodes and videos released so far.

New Band Pages: Rustocrat

unnamed

We just got a new band page up on our site, not really for a “band” this time around, but for a new electronic artist from the area going by the name of “Rustocrat.” Some of you who were at the last Black Sheep Open Mic might have caught some of Rustocrat’s Black Sheep debut and you just might have danced along. You can check out Rustocrat’s new page right here where you can read up more on the artist and also stream his brand new album.

Check out any of our 60+ band pages for current and active Springfield bands right here on our current bands page. Do you play in a band or are a musician in the area and have not yet set up a page with us? Shoot us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up!

13130973_10208834529448272_1104806938073055733_o.jpg

It’s been a minute since we’ve done an open mic night at Black Sheep, and there have only been one or two this year so far, so we are adding another one this spring on Sunday, May 15th! Come on out if you have been itching to perform or if you might want to catch something new. As our usual open mic nights are, there are 15 minute open slots between 7:00 to 10:30 that are pretty much all open to be claimed. To claim a slot, post in the Open Mic facebook event or send us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com. We will also have a few slots open the day of the show to be claimed by the first people that show up to claim them.

The open mic night starts at 7:00 pm and goes until 10:30 pm. For this we ask for donations of anywhere between $1 and $5 to keep our venue running. There will also be a 15% off sale going on at Dumb Records next door during the open mic, so even more reason to come out! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Blafacebook.com/events/1021525177958387ck Sheep in the near future.

Here we are on the sixth episode already of this sixth new season of the Black Sheep Radio Show without Brandon Carnes. Last week we got a little bit back into the swing of things, with Kevin Bradford coming in as our first guest of the new season. Today we are bringing in New York’s Deadliest DJ- DJ Tariq himself onto the show as guest. DJ Tariq has recently moved here from New York and has since performed at Black Sheep and Dumb Records for Record Store Day. He has a few mashups that we might get to play on air, and might bring a few songs in on vinyl for us to play.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm on your radio dial. You can also tune in during the same time online at wqna.net. Check out our radio page for some older downloadable episodes and more info.
