Chicago Reader: “Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s Hosts The Finale of Springfield Punk Party Dumb Fest”

rock_n_roll_hardee_s_-_livin_thing_8_34_.jpg

Chicago-based newspaper and new site the Chicago Reader has published an article covering the Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s show that took place this past Sunday as a part of Dumb Fest – “Rock n’ Roll Hardee’s hosts the finale of Springfield punk party Dumb Fest.” The article takes a look at Hardee’s as a venue for punk shows in Springfield and how accepting the management over there has been to this new and interesting partnership with the Springfield punk scene. From the article (written by Sean Neumann):

“This is my first time really listening to music like this,” Neal says. “It’s interesting to see how the kids dress now, because they dress very different. I’ve never seen so many kids with so many holes in their heads.”

You can check out the full article online right here. Also expect a few pictures and videos from Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s and the other Dumb Fest shows to surface on our site throughout the next few weeks!

WOW // THANK YOU!

We can not thank you all enough for how much of a success this past weekend was with our biggest and best Dumb Fest yet, even with all of the heat and lung tubes! THANK YOU tremendously to all of the volunteers that made this possible (ESPECIALLY the weeks leading up to the fest where we were thrown some curve balls and hospital visits), and of course to all 50 of the bands who performed, and all of the attendees- those in town who maybe checked out the fest for the first time, and those who drove from far and wide. Thank you!

Be on the lookout for a special Black Sheep Fest announcement coming from our site tomorrow. And we’ll see you next year, Dumb Fest!

The Illinois Times: “Dumb, Dumber, Dumb Fest”

dumbfest_02.21622.widea.0.jpg

The Illinois Times this week features a great article on Dumb Fest, which if you can believe it kicks off here at Black Sheep tomorrow night. The issue of The Illinois Times came out today, and the article takes more of an in depth look at the planning behind this year’s festival, including road blocks and community members stepping up after festival organizer Brian Galecki has ended up in the hospital for the past couple of weeks with a collapsed lung (he is out as of yesterday). The Illinois Times also talks directly to George Sinclair and Kyle Ratliff. From the article:

One positive byproduct of Galecki’s illness is that it is forcing other members of the scene to take ownership, a prospect that Ratliff sees as both intimidating and exhilarating. “It’s really a beautiful thing, everyone stepping up, making CDs, making flyers, printing out handbills, promoting as much as we can and getting the grounds of Southtown up to snuff so we can host 50 bands. It’s stressful but I think all of us are working toward that moment where it’ll be like, hey, we can actually do this. We’ve got this!”

Check out the full article online right here, or pick up a copy of The Illinois Times at different locations around town for the next week. Check out our Dumb Fest 4-Ever page for more info on the fest right here.
