This is a post to let you know that we have plenty of copies of the new February 2021 issue of Activator Magazine in our store! What fun!
This issue features Peoria-based rock group Tina Sparkle on the cover! They have been going strong as a band for 14 years now, and just recently came out with a new album! Let’s see what else is in this issue… we’ve got plenty of album reviews as usual. There are columns and usual, and a brand new column called “Dumb Perspective” by Dumb Records’s very own Brian Galecki! On some Springfield, IL music history! You can also find an interview with Jamie Meredith who organized C.A.M.P. (Creators of Art Music & Poetry) – a new program in town. This issue also features a “Soundcheck” section which checks in with artists and musicians from the area on what they are up to. It’s a lot of fun.
Pick up a copy of Activator Magazine for free at our store (open 12:00 to 5:30 pm every day) or other various locations around town! Also check out Activator’s online Patreon page and consider donating!
Local Drags are BACK – the Springfield pop punk project of Lanny Durbin (also of Starter Jackets) has blessed us this weekend with a brand new hit single off of a new upcoming album. The song is called “Think Straight” and you can listen to it on the youtube player embedded below. The song comes from an upcoming album called Keep Me Glued, which you can see the official album art for above. You can find pre-orders for the new album through Stardumb Records online right here! We will also be sure to look into getting stocked up with copies for Dumb Records as well. The album is being released on Friday, March 12th. It is being pressed on vinyl – both the standard black AND “chemical blue lake” colored vinyl!
This will be Local Drags’s sophomore album, after releasing Shit’s Lookin’ Up in 2019.

This is just a post to let you know that last night, with the help of Crowdson Creative and Activator Magazine, we tried pulling off our first ever live-streaming event featuring the band Balki Bros.
We’d say it was a success! Thank you to any of you who tuned in while we were live last night (which was a surprise)! We intended on attempting to make live-streaming from our stage more of a regular occurrence, but after the learning process we had last night we have decided that if we are going to do that we need to get higher speed internet first. For those of you who missed it, don’t worry! The entire video we took is up on our facebook page right here. We’ll keep you posted on what we have for any live-streaming in the future!

Welcome to a brand new week! Happy Monday everyone! Today we bring you news this past weekend we brought home a *virtual* award for our store’s award shelf. We are thrilled to accept Downtown Springfield Inc‘s award for “most creative promotion” for our Downtown Pinball Tournament which was held earlier this past fall. We had a whole lot of fun setting up the pinball tournament, and we can’t wait to do it again later on this year.
The Downtown Springfield Inc. awards ceremony was held virtually this year. You can check out what other local businesses and people won other awards on the DSI facebook page right here.
Once again congratulations to Prairie Archives for being the official winners for our Downtown Springfield Pinball Tournament for 2020. Who will be the winner for this year?

Oops, we almost forgot to mention! It’s that special time of the year again. It’s happening a little bit later into January than usual, but it’s the time of the year when we release our poll results for our annual Best of Local Music poll, and we team up with Activator Magazine for their January issue featuring all of the results.
We will be posting some of the results to our polls online here in the coming days. For now though, we are letting you know that we have a few copies available of the new Activator for free in our store! You can also pick them up at different locations around town. And thank you to everyone who helped us in contributing write-ups for this issue!

Well, well, well, did you know that today just so happens to be our birthday? That’s right, seven years ago (January 11th, 2014) was the grand open for our store’s original location at 1107 South Grand Ave, next to The Black Sheep. So now we are officially 7 years old and entering our eighth year.
We are not looking to have a huge celebration this year of course, but we are deciding to move forward in re-opening our store (just a bitty bit more) today by switching the *open* sign to “on” from 12-5pm every day now.
Here’s the low-down for now: – The store is open 12-5pm every day. – Limit to 8 customers in the store at a time. – Masks required (duh), we also have hand sanitizer as you enter. – The arcade is still closed for now. We are not doing reservations on that for now either, maybe soon. – We are still open to store appointments happening before noon or after 5pm! Just call, email or message us ahead of time. – We are still offering shipping, delivery, or store pick-up options on shopdumbrecords.com!
That’s it for now! Check out our Black Sheep History Page if you want to get teary-eyed and think back on all of the fun times we’ve had together over the years.
